I believe it was Neon Philarmonic . At least they were the band that I heard singing it first. Their version is vastly different to this version as it sounds like it has a synthesiser as backing. It was in the late 60's that the song came out and the synthesiser was a big deal then.
Here is a link to the Neon Philharmonic version /watch?v=xkFmvKUt05c&feature=related.
musicmindedclaire62 I can tell you one thing about him, to sing this song to you, he must have loved you so much. Remember the love he gave you & you'll be okay
This song is the most wonderful song ever written because this was the symbol of my love when I was in college. And this really makes me cry hearing the song.
"Morning Girl" was written by Tupper Saucy. That is a most interesting name for a human being. Saw a note about him in the NY Times several years ago. Poets and songwriters perhaps are not infrequently given to a bit of excess. As William Blake put it, "Excess of sorrow laughs, excess of joy weeps."
@MrElijah1975 Great song, heard it the other day on XM 60s by the original group Neon Philarmonic, been covered by a few artists including Shaun caasady.
omg this reminds me of my first love way back in 1970... i really love this song - may kurot sa puso...thanks for posting this very beautiful song/version.
i saw your concert last night in Houston and it really did reminisced my past. I adore all your songs & your group is fantastic....i'm glad to know that you are doing great up to these days & not only that, you also do concert for charity!!! more power to u guys! keep up your good work! Definitely I can't wait to buy new cd from u guys!
Had the Lettermen Capitol LP for long long time.., don't seem to find it now. This is the best track. Perfect vocal and romantic lyrics. Think Jim Pike is solo. Great recording with lush orchestral string .....Never tired of listening to this song. Together with 'Love' , all time favorite Lettermen classics. Thanks for uploading..

Yes! I LOVE THIS SONG VERY MUCH... it brings back those old memories during your FIRST LOVE. It is so amazing how old songs touches your heart once you heard it for the first time for a long time. This one reminds me of my LOVE way back in year 1972. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS SONG.
its been a long time since i heard this song and thanks to youtube u brought back old memories the happy ones the times when u r in love the first time ...
me too capri. every time I turn the tv on now (radio mostly too) I just want to turn it off. Women kickin guys butts...men beong made to look shallow and stupid.everything about it being a competition between men and women instead of a partnership or romance...I mostly hate modern times...tough days for a romantic to live in.
@musicluver1958 Sorry to break the bad news, but it IS a competition. Woman are the majority in most colleges, with that education comes high-paying jobs and power. I no longer offer seats on a bus to a woman, who may be earning twice as much as me, or competing with me for my next promotion. I'm not bitter, just a realist that the power balance may be shifting in favor of women. Take off the rose-colored glasses that never looked good on anyone anyway.
I have this by the Neon Philharmonic on the original 45RPM record. I've always just loved it. Never knew there were any other versions of it recorded.
The original 1968 version was a hit and is still the most perfect version ever recorded: Fresh, but mature lyrics, to go along with a fine melody and perfect rhythm. Not overproduced. Can't we do better than the Lettermen and Shaun Cassidy?
I would have to respectfully disagree..I always liked it a lot-I loved the sentiment in the lyrics, which the Lettermen version captures so perfectly. The Neon Philharmonic version, while very good, was produced to be a pop hit.
Jim Pike's version is wonderful. What's your problem with it? His excellent, mellifluous, in-tune voice? The gorgeous orchestral arrangement with the violins and piccolo in tandem?
yekki boy , how dyo sleep last night? yekki boy, was that you last night creeping in my sleep? oh no, things are different now than they were before. . . love is more than kisses
i think the meaning of this song is that, love should not be based on passion or on being infatuated alone, not just hugs and kisses, it will not last... women should look for men whom they can look up to, whom they can feel secure with, it does not matter if he works as a laborer wearing soiled clothings, or tinkers with a scalpel dressed in surgical robes, as long as he possesses the dignity as a man manifesting in every way.
morning girl, how'd you sleep last night? you're several ages older now, your eyes have started showing how the little girl's growing now. Morning girl, was that you last night, cryin' on the radio, begging for a way to go, back where love wasn't jumbled so. oh no things are different now than they were before, you know love is more than kisses, a whole lot more. Morning girl, put your dreams away, and rid your thoughts of cheerios, and powder puff that pretty nose and go out and find your man
This song really always reminds me during my college days in the Philippines. I was sick and my boy friend bough me this record.

Mornin' girl, put your dreams away
And read your box of Cheerios
And powder-puff that pretty nose
And go out and find your man where the wild wind blows
Mornin' girl

Mornin' girl, how'd ya sleep last night?
You're sev'ral ages older now
Your eyes have started showin' how
The little girl's growing now
Mornin' girl, was that you last night?
Cryin' on the radio
Beggin' for a way to go
To go back where love wasn't jumbled so...
