  • Any chance you could post the chords to this great song?

  • @truckubuddy ~ In this video, It looks like I'm playing it in A, but usually it goes:

    (G)Oh-Ro The (C) Rattlin' Bog,

The (G) bog down in the (D) valley-o

    (G)Oh-Ro The (C) Rattlin' Bog,

The (G) bog down in the (D) valley-(G)-o

Now in that bog there (C) was a tree

    A (G) rare tree, a (D)rattlin' tree

And the(G) tree in the bog

And the bog down in the (D) valley-(G)-o

Every time the list is sung, it is on the chord of G.

  • @casetone2514 Thank you! Great song!

  • Great fun, Tony! :-D

  • Great stuff. I just recently subscribed for the Prison Trilogy but now I have to go thru all your stuff. Hell, I might even get a Uke that like everything else I have cannot play.

  • Ha' Go for it and thanks

  • Good effort getting throught that one!

I especially liked the fact that both of you appeared to be quite close to breaking into uncontrollable fits of laughter on several occasions, just barely pulling it together and continuing each time.

  • That is so often the case when we sing together

    Thank you

  • I love this kind of song Thanks, I wasn't familiar with this one.

  • Hi Tony,

Nice, nice. After hearing your version I played the version of the Irish Descendants .... surprising to see that you are their lead singer. I did not know that. Or is it our twin-brother?

  • I have never heard of them - I will check them out. Usually people think I'm Kyle Gass!

  • i love this song...have it on a Dan Zanes CD for me kids....i'm a bit undisciplined to learn it....

you two did a 'smash up' job!

    cheers,

    Todd

  • I am useless at remembering lyrics, but see my response to Ukeshale above ↑

  • Did you both do that from JUST memory? I'd have to forget some important pin numbers or something if I wanted to create space in my head for those lyrics. I love the smiling and laughing really gives the video a great genuine feel - makes me smile and laugh, just watching it. Wonderful!

  • One take - no rehearsal unless you count the hundreds of thousands of times we sang it between about 1997and 2006 on countless long car journeys!

I am usually bad at remembering lyrics but long strings of numbers I tend not to forget. For example, I remember every phone number I've ever had and the number for Swap Shop - the Saturday Morning kids show in the 70s - don't believe me? 01 811 8055. No, don't clap. It is a rare and pointless talent. Just call me Rainman.

  • Our very own youtube savant! (sort of ;))

  • I am an excellent driver.

  • my favorite tune!

  • Is it?

    Wow.

  • nice job

  • Thank you

  • So glad You made it at the end...Whew

This was precious and not to mention...priceless

  • Thanks very much

  • now that's jazzercising! or is it folkxercising?

  • I was folked at the end

  • Fun one!

  • Thanks Mike - a great one for the car

  • 0_o

    XYZ!!! PDQ!!

  • WAKE UP!

I think you nodded off on your keyboard.

  • GreAAT one Tony!

  • Thanks very much

  • I've run some marathons in my time, but I don't think even at my fittest I could have finished that song. Hooray for you and Becky!

  • As Becky says at the end - "you can burn calories doing that song"

  • Rattlingly good! Most excellent to see this duet.

Also reminds me of "Hole in the bottom of the sea"

  • I don't know that one - are you going to do it?

  • Done it! In keeping with the theme, I pressed my children into service.

  • Oh, I have fond memories singing this around campfires! Thanks. Remembering all those verses was always a challenge. That part at warp speed...wow!

  • Thanks - it's surprisingly not very well known.

  • Loved the speed singing at the end.

There is a similar song called

"there was was an old woman who swallowed a fly"

which details her attempts to get rid of the fly

  • Yes - it's a Burl Ives song. Doggey9 should do that - he has a few Burl Ives tunes under his belt already and he does them brilliantly

  • You and Becky did a great job.

  • Thanks

  • Ha ha! Never heard this song before, but I remeber the child story with the same theme. Great one, both of you.

  • One for you and Svente in a couple of years

  • That was fantastic!

  • Thanks
