That miss by Gardner at the buzzer is eerily reminiscent of the miss by LaFrentz at the buzzer in the Arizona-Kansas game in 1997. Shot from the same wing.
Was even better to watch the beakers lose to the Orangemen. KU might have the worst fanbase in the land. I have never seen so many people outside of Dallas Cowboy fans that have ZERO reason to be a KU fan root for the beakers. So many KU "fans" aren't football fans. I would say roughly 99.9% of the KU "fans" don't even know who the football coach is.
Hinrich is on my starting 5 on alltime kansas team...along side....Pierce/Manning/Rush/Chamberlin....bench...Lafrentz/Collison/Collins/Simien/Vaughn,,,,, also if Julian Wright would have stayed one more year...maybe the most "gifted" player ever at Kansas....Chalmers was hard to keep off this team
I've always hated Arizona. They robbed us of the 1997 NCAA championship and embarrassed us in AFH in '03. So beating them in the Elite Eight was a fitting revenge, and would have been sweeter had we beaten Syracuse. Oh well, we did beat Arizona again in 2007-08 en route to a national title.
Not regular season rivals (well exception in 01-02, 02-03 seasons) Kansas vs. Arizona in the NCAA Tournament is a great rival between the two schools.
Chalmers was a McDonald's All-American who played with a bunch of talent so he didn't look like a superstar like Hinrich but he was just as good as Hinrich. He hit the biggest shot in KU history and holds a couple steals records.
No, he'll get it retired. They have since relaxed the rules on jersey retirement. Hinrich was never a 1st team all-american, but he's getting his jersey retired as well.
But it was all Hinrich and Collison who led us to the final four. If they retire Chalmers then they will have to retire Rush and Aurthur too. Last years team didn't have total stars like Hinrich and Collison were
Rush is the only other player from last year's team that will be eligible for jersey retirement because he was an All-American (3rd team). I don't know the exact rules, but all Tourney MOPs and All-Americans are eligible. Arthur, Jackson, Kaun, Robinson, etc will not get their jerseys retired unless we change the rules.
He doesn't have to leave they don't really "retire" the jersey they really just honor it. Boschee wore 13 after Chamberlain and Rush and Lee wore 25 after Manning too.
First of all, gertuner Kansas beat Arizona this past season so that shows how much you know. Second, Kansas is clearly better than Arizona in that game, and all-time PERIOD. Third, Kansas after finally years FINALLY has their natl. championship, and they will win more in the future.
That saturday was one of those special saturdays for me. I had a miracle direct deposit go to my bank account. Marquette upsets Kentucky, then this great matchup with Kansas beating a great UofA team. Then threw one of the best parties at my house where no cops came even after 4 bands and other tons of wild sh*t happend.
God, couldn't dig themselves out of that hole. Could have played in the national championship after beating Marquette. I had Syracuse and Arizona in the championship, damnit!!!
What hole did they dig themselves into again?! It was a back and forth game all night, with large leads, but it came down to the last shot. I also suppose it was UAs year this year too huh...oh wait, nope it was KUs!
Lol, what a competitive weine you are. You guys had a bench this year, we had injuries and a lack of hall of fame coaching. Oh, as for digging out of the hole again, it was that embarassing loss we handed you guys earlier that year in Lawrence that we dug out of, sorry.
Yeah because you had a better team. Am I supposed to be mad and angry at the truth or accept it because it is what it is? I'll go with the latter. It'd probably be better to be a competitive little penis when things are even, not when things are obviously so askew and disorganized
I remember being in the stands for that one. I was shocked... but that's what makes the tournament the best three weeks in sports. A tough one for my Cats. I guess it was poetic justice. KU knocked out the best UA team ever, like we did to them in 97.
That game was a tough one for the Cats. The 1-3-1 zone did shut down Collison but all the attention he got left Hinrich and Graves wide open. KU had a good squad that year had got hot at the end going into the tourney. I knew when the brackets came out Arizona would have a tough time beating them in the regional final. Well in 07 rematch at Allen Fieldhouse, should be a good one.
Arizona was simply a better team they jus screwed themselves over and why it is dedicated to the 97 hawks i dont kno because i believe Arizona took the tourney that year.
Arizona didn't deserve to be there, but damnit, they played like it. KU got lucky that Arizona dug themselves a deep hole in that game otherwise it would have been another Cats NC
This game was revenge for earlier in the season when Arizona embarrassed KU in Allen Fieldhouse. Suffice it to say, we learned from our mistakes. The best part about it was going to Allen Fieldhouse at 4 am to welcome back the team.
g-mac didn't do anything in the second half when ku made there run in the second half. it was josh pace and billy edelin that took over the game in the second half.
BS! Ku was UP 20 at allen field house and blew it! we should have been the #1 and we proved it! luck had nothing to do with Jeff Graves and that win. Arizona got luckey that Simen was hurt and Gooden went pro.
you are an idiot! ....oh and didnt ku win at arizon the last time they played down there? i guess not always. i cant wait till zona comes up here! well see who has the better team.
Jeff Graves also came up huge for KU in this game. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
