  • oh my gosh! this is amazing!!!!

    @.@

  • Why is there always that one person coughing? Gosh. lol

  • too good!!! too good!!

  • Wish we were backed by an orchestra when we performed this song:)

  • this is a piece i hold close to my heart

  • thank you god for this day

  • I do like it with the piano better because its softer and just gentler. But this way way much more powerful as well which also represents the song a lot. Perfection :)

  • Too fast! Too slow! No dynamics! Not enough Soprano! Better with piano! Better with Orchestra! Orchestra overpowering! Bull rubbish! Everything was just perfect! Why is the sky a different shade of blue on different days? Because blue is the perfect color for the sky and whatever shade of blue you see, it is still the perfect color, so too are outstanding performances like this. Even being too slow or too fast it is still only different versions of perfection!

  • @oneonetwosix1126 yes i agree i think it is way too fast

  • What a wonder, thank you very much for making me discover both the Choir and the song.

  • Wow.. They are amazing...

  • One of my favorite choral pieces of all time *A* so beautiful ~ the orchestra is a lovely addition, too.

  • absolutely amazing.

  • i love this song soooo much! my choir sang this song and we did pretty well considering we were trebles between the ages of 11 and 18 yrs. old. but then again it was an audition only choir...

  • The alto's of this choir have such a beautiful sound. Great interpretation, sound, and musicianship. Really.

  • completely amazing! tone color, vowels, consonants, musicianship, orchestra, everything. my all time favorite by far!!!!

  • the ending is simply fantastic!

  • wow we sounded amazing!

  • bravoo!! heard nothing like it

  • my choir is singing this song at States :D,

i love this song, and you ladies do a wonderful job of singing this song!

  • We are performing this song for Contest! I love the orchestra with it, but unfortunately we won't perform with one.

  • I think the orchestra really adds something special! We did this for Iowa All-State too...love it :)

  • we sung this at all-districts. it was my favorite song.. it is so pretty and epic. XD AWESOME.

  • We're singing this in our all-state chorus this year...im sooo excited!!

  • this was thrilling to be a part of i had no idea they would put up this video on youtube! Yay!

  • wow that was beautiful go texas ill put some videos of our tennesse mid-state and all-state choirs so you can see how we are in TN but that was just amazing

  • I..am speechless..

I can't even describe how amazing that was.

We're doing this in ambassadors and with only 8 people. xD

  • That was amazing. But i would expect nothing less from a all state choir.

  • they sound really good... but i hate the why English sounds

  • My choir is singing this for festival(: im sososo excited! Pure beauty, and gave me chills great job!

  • these altos have a incredible sound!!

  • WOW! What an amazing interpretation of Ms. Walker's (and e.e.cummings') work. Flawless, empassioned, brilliant. The sopranos always get the accolades, but the altos have an very warm but resonant sound.

  • That wasn't overtone that was a high C sung by a few sopranos. its written in the music. I sang it last year ^.^

  • i don't THINK that was an overtone. i THINK it was a person singing it, which is impressive. but it kind of disappeared at the end, which leads me to believe that it was a person who ran out of breath. but it still sounded pretty good.

  • My friend Wismer was in this and every time I hear this sung, I cry..I just recently sung this for a choir festival and almost lost it emotionally Pure beauty like this is breathtaking at the most highest level...I THANK YOU GOD FOR MOST THIS AMAZING DAY!

  • amazing.

  • Wow.

  • Oh my, did you not HEAR that amazing overtone on the last chord, which wasn't flat. Video quality maybe?

I don't know, but it was impressive.

  • if only that last chord wasnt flat

  • I wish I could see you all sing this live, you took my breath away. Simply beautiful.

Flawless, disciplined and you all have a wonderful blend.

  • i go to chs! in florida. but im sure there are alot of chs' out there.... XD

  • florida is the best =]

  • texas all the way!!!!! ;-)

  • Not sure if I like this one or the SATB version better. Both are fantastic, in any case.

  • Here I was thinking I'd find Eric Whitacre's rendition of this poem... I'm glad I found this one too.

  • Flawless.

  • Epic!

  • Go Texaz

  • I love Gweneth with her primitive harmonies and fluttering motifs. she really brought this poem to life

  • THIS IS BEAUTIFUL :)

  • When I was a sophomore in high school, my all woman's choir performed this...it still gives me goosebumps to think about and it has been almost 4 yrs ago. I had a great director and an amazing choir at that time. I miss singing in a choir:(

  • yep.

    I did this one, too.

  • I agree, I did this with my choir for festival, and we did it slower, oh and I was one of those high C ladies :)

  • ummm, wow. goose bumps.

the womens choir at my high school is working on this, not even close to how pure this sounded.

  • do u go to chs?

  • chs? no i don't. why?

  • very lovely. i sang at GMEA one year, and we were just as good. :)

  • GMEA Rocks :)

  • I sand this song at Texas WomansUniversity under Dr.Stewart...i loved it. Greatness

  • And, we've improved so much since the beginning of the school year!

Of course we only have it with piano...and I actually like it that way. ;]

  • My high school women's choir is doing this piece. I LOVE IT. I'm the sopranon part, and out of our class that's the biggest group. We only have 6-7 girls who sing the highest part..but two of them have amazing voices and you can definitely tell it's them.

I agree with "TheWrite2Imagine" about the soprano part in this one... In our class the sopranos sound awesome and our instructor ALWAYS has us make our consonants stand out!

We're always in unison, too. He's definitely good at what he does.

  • Florida All-State did this this year. It was awesome. We took it a LOT slower, though.

  • This is my favorite choral song ever! and we recorded it!

  • PHENOMENAL. THE TMEA ALL STATE CHOIRs 2007 ARE SO PHENOMENAL. Even the words I want to say are ineffable. This song brought tears to my eyes.

  • sounds great, but why are they dressed differently?

  • we were from differrent choirs around texas.

  • oh really neat! :)

  • does anyone from the 2007 women's choir remember the name of that estonian piece we did?? I really liked it. And I can't find my program or my cd right now.

  • The name is Lauliku Lapsepoli by Veljo Tormis. I've been trying to upload the video of it because someone here asked me for it, but I just haven't been able to upload the video to my computer.

  • @beapodaca plz do it hahaha plz and would you happen to have that video of the mixed and men and treble from i think it was 2005...the mixed sang cloudburst and battle of jericho plz ive been trying to find it and their is a piece in their that the women sang that i jst need to listen to it it was so beautiful i forgot what it was called

  • uh, rushed?

  • I just played this in my All-State orchestra in January!!!.... omg,,, it was gorgeous. Amazing huge orchestra+ Amazing huge choir= something words cannot express....

  • I was so mad after I heard the CD. That was my sophomore year, I was in Mixed Choir and I went back to the hotel to sleep 'cause Dr. Armstrong gave us the Saturday morning off. I now wish I had watched the Women's/Men's concert...women's was sooo moving and just awesome!

  • I got to do the premiere performance of this and Gwenneth came to a couple of our rehearsals to make sure we got it right :) A wonderful song, and really not that old. I'm happy to hear it has spread far enough to sound repetitive to some of you. The first version is with piano an a full women's choir. I'm biased, probably, but I thought the brass in this stuck out a bit. A toned-down orchestra would sound nicer, I believe.

  • great parts...but i thought it was a little fast

  • I sang this song last year for my district festival, and I still love it to bits and pieces. We got straight ones, too, the highest score! :D This recording is beautiful, although I like it with the piano better...and a bit slower. It's beautiful though.

  • Hmm...is it just me or does it seem like the repeat a lot of these songs for every All-State choirs? This is the fourth or fifth song I've found that I have sung myself when I went to All-State and All-NW...

This is, BY FAR, the best recording of this song that I have found though! Wow, very amazing! :)

  • The girls treble song sang this in Jackson. It was really my favorite song!!! its so moving and touching

  • Beautiful and moving.

  • wow. i was in this choir... i forgot how moving that song was...

  • No dynamics? Are you deaf? There are OBVIOUSLY a great deal of dynamic changes...

  • no dynamics...um...

    you are deaf

  • Uhm, excuse me?

    Could you do better?

  • Great job girls, one of my favorite songs ever! I do like the SATB version better, though. What can I say, I like the full spectrum of voices.

  • this is an amazing peiceeeee , i auditioned for florida all state w/it but i made concert choir so i guess i'll never sing it...

    you guys are amaaaaazing !

  • Oh my goodness!

  • this song is amazing, but i feel this choir needed just a little bit more 1st soprano, they sounded overpowered at a few parts, where they should have been a little stronger. the 1st soprano part on this song is supposed to be like icing on a cake. very light, but noticable and beautiful

  • this is the most beautiful song EVER.

my friend THE nina toscano was in this choir, she's amazing.

  • So lovely, especially the violins!

  • i think i cryed?

  • i was here!

  • Who is the composer? It sounds like the one composed by Gwyneth Walker, but I didn't think that one was written for orchestra accompaniment.

  • Yes, it was composed by Gwyneth Walker, I just checked cuz I still have the program from that concert

  • It was originally written for piano. :)

  • It's usually the other way around. It was probably composed with all of the instrumentation of the orchestra. Then something called a "piano reduction" was composed so that smaller ensembles can perform it.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • when i performed this song with my allstate choir, i couldn't get through it without crying. this is such a gorgeous performance.

  • YAY i LOVED when they performed this! this song makes cry

  • we sang this arrangment last year and it's superb!! we were accompianied by piano tho... it's simply awesome

  • We sang this song when I was at Iowa State about 5 years ago. It was gorgeous and a strange arrangement -sometimes the 2nd sops were higher than the 1sts...and I think the final note was a high C....beautiful!

  • did they override to let girls sing tenor or bass and guys sings alto or soprano i know this was an issue a few years ago

  • I sang in the same choir as the Alto 2 that is 3rd over on the top row @ 2:05 the long straight brown hair, I made 2008 Mixed Choir this year WOOT WOOT TENOR 2

  • wow you made mixed as a tenor 2 thats awesome

  • Did you make TX All-State as a Tenor Two!??!?

Girl, if you didi that is amazing, and that's my voice part!!!

    Go Second Tenors!!!!!!!

  • Tenor 1!!

  • I guess!!!

    I love singing Tenor!!!

I have sang dang near every voice part.

I like singing Bass Two, but Tenor Two is my favorite!!!

  • yeah we sang this too.

but we were defiantly not as good as you guys. and we had about i/4 of the people as you guys do, and no one wanted to sing it to their fullest

  • Wow, you guys went a lot faster than we did when we sang it. But still, beautiful. This song brought tears to my eyes when we sang it at distract festival--*sniffle* The only thing I noticed that you guys didn't do was use the crescendo at the very beginning, on 'god' and 'day'. But otherwise it was fantastic. :3

  • beautiful...it adds so much to it with the orchestra.

  • we sang this song in women's chorus...and it was my favorite. This is really gorgeous, I wish our girls would have been so disciplined...and cared :-(

    but this is great

  • yeah, we sang this too...I love this song so much, but it was like I was the only one who actually wanted to do it well

  • OMG ITS ARIEL!

    its anna!

  • OMG ANNA HI!!!

  • that was childish whoever you are your comment should be deleted i didn't come to this video to see such a negative comment.

  • i am that girl. && i dont know who u are..but that hurts that u couldn't even say it to my face. i've never done a thing to anyone at all state. i consider it a blessing to have been there at all!

  • hey i think it was bullshit that she had to say something like that! You know what it only makes you stronger because people like that never will become anything with that type of negative energy. So keep singing and make the mixed choir because its an AWESOME feeling! I went to TMEA my senior and i made the mixed choir in 2005 and i will always think that we are the best mixed choir EVER because it gives you that feeling! So who ever that girl is will get whats coming to her! keep doing you!

  • yeah i loved my years in tmea 2000-2003 my favorite was 2003 beat beat drums was my favorite song

  • this is amazing and i fell in love with this song! but i dont expect anything but excellence from the TMEA ALL-STATE choirs, because they are amazing! i was apart of the 2005 Mixed chior and i loved every bit of it

  • oh, 2005 was an amazing year. especially for the mixed choir and women's choirs. i was in men's and it didn't impress me much. then again, i was in the 2004 men's choir and that was the best one ever.

  • I have to agree! I had the time of my life! what school were you from!

  • Cypress Ridge High School.

  • thats cool! i was Denton High School in region 24

  • ah, yea i was in region 23.

  • what chair did you make for mens choir? do you remember

  • 5th chair in '04 and '05 (one chair away). basically nerves got to me both years. and then in '06 i woke up with the worst cold in the world on the morning of area auditions....made first alternate.

  • OMG i wouldnt have known what to do with myself if that happened. made 4th chair and i started crying because i didnt think i did well enough to make it. i knew i preformed well but when they called the chairs out and i wasnt either of the mens choir chairs, i thought i didnt make it. Until they called 4th chair and it was me! i started to freak out because there was nothing more that i wanted but to make it and i did. i was SO happy

  • yea, TMEA is definitely a GREAT thing.

  • oh, 2005 was an amazing year. especially for the mixed choir and women's choirs. i was in men's and it didn't impress me much. then again, i was in the 2004 men's choir and that was the best one ever.

  • this is one of my favorite women's chorus songs ever!

  • this song=

    magnificent.
