This is a great version, although a little disturbing that he sings some of the wrong words. It's "tonight I'll "ASK" the stars above". What's he saying? Tonight I'll "light" the stars above? He also sings "I could "love" but I could never touch". It's actually "I could "LOOK" but I could never touch". Its very weird that Jeff Healey (the blind guy gavin refers to at the end of this video) died 3 days after this video was shot. He had a rare form of cancer. I initially thought Degraw was doing this out of rememberance.. but this was shot a few days before.. RIP jeff healey

Nope... he's playing the song the way HE wants to in HIS own style. If you prefer that Healey version that's perfectly fine, but it's illogical to want Gavin's cover to sound like Healey's. Paying homage while making it your own is a great way to do a cover, even if you don't like it.

I never said I wanted it to sound like Healey. I said he could learn a lot from Healey's version. One of my biggest gripes with Degraw is that much of his music sounds the same. Part of this is due to his unique timbre.

I have listened to a good deal of his music and "young love" is the only keeper I found. The rest of the songs kind of blend together.

This is exactly what happened to me as well... I was listening to "I don't want to be" on the radio and was wondering: "Who is that guy?? His voice is amazing!" So back in 2005 (I think), I googled him and now I'm blessed with three incredible records by him.

Met him the last time he was here in Rotterdam, what a cool guy..gives me his hand and introduces himself like a regular guy..takes pictures with all his fans and signed autographs for about 45min in the freezing cold..

It is called a tribute. Jeff Healey was my close friends cousin. I never got the pleasure of meeting him but this song is one of my favourite songs of all time, and Gavin is one of my favourite and in my eyes one of the most original artists out there and I think he sang this song beautifully.
