  • Please don't be firing rounds off into the air! There's a kid in the hospital cause he was struck in the head by a stray "celebratory" bullet. Come on people, use your heads! What if it was your brother or child.

  • U2 said this song was inspired after they visited El Salvador, during the Salvadorian Civil War,when he mentions one hundred,2 hundred,he is talking about the US supporting the Salvadorian military that massacred people, when he says the city is groaning, that is San Salvador,as it was known during the war as"The City that Crumbles"and finally when he says the women and children run into the arms of America,he's talking about the half of the Salvi population that immigrated to US because of the war

  • Sounds ALOT like Stanglehold from Mr. Ted Nugent.......The intro anyways!

  • remember, "Outside is America",aushauhsuahsuash

  • I can see those spider prints

  • Sepultura brought me here.......that's right, the COVER song brought me to the original :P

  • @Hammersmashed68

And while I do love metal, I hope you're now of the opinion that the original is better than the cover.

  • Love Bono!!!!!

  • great song period.....if u dont like it then dont listen. appreciate music dont defecate on it

  • Happy Birthday Larry Mullen Jr (October 31)

  • few people know this song was written by Bono after he visited El Salvador during its Civil War; making reference on US' help in the country... such a sad story and history. i love my country...

  • Sepultura version is better, its badass song U2 its just dont have that toughness and raw power to perform it. Its sound more like psyhodelic rock but its also cool.

  • song makes me feel like a badass

  • I hear influences of When The Levy Breaks by a little known british band called Led Zeppelin

  • most kick ass u2 song ever!

  • @sacul220 Thanks for listening to both songs just to see if I might be right - or wrong. And I'm so happy you found time to write. I'm about the same age as Bono and when we were kids, Zepplin were an unescapeable force in our lives, hence my thoughts on Bullet.

  • There are soo many sounds going on in this song that i dont' think most ears take notice too with Adam's fading "skyyy" in the backround, to Edge worlds bleeding guitar and Bono's vibrato's n echoes!! what a fucking masterpiece!

  • My favourite just edging Vertigo into 2nd place - BUT, and it's a big one - Is this a Led Zepplin Homage? That said, you've got to listen to 'When The Levee Breaks' by Zeppelin, comapare and and make up your own mind.

  • @markrequest personally i dont think it is a Led Zepellin Homage. but yes it sounds like that , but just because of the kind of the song, i think they re 2 of the greatest songs ever and theres no reason to tinhk like that. but thanks for your opinion :)

  • @sacul220

if i were inclined to compare this song to ANYTHING....

it would be Jimi Hendrix. the bombastic, soaring, yet bluesy, and

soulful sounds emanating from Edge's guitar definitely invoke Hendrix.

    (for me, anyways).

  • @ZebZachary agree

  • umm, ever think for a moment that tool was inspired by this song?

  • Like the song

I don't get the lyrics though

  • U2's heaviest song

  • @zealberg their only song...

  • Comment removed

  • This song sounds an awful lot like Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. Suspiciously so.

  • @Polyfusia its got like the same bassline haha

  • @AlbanianGuy Also a very similar drum beat. It's funny because only a few days ago I realized that U2 had ripped off the drum beat to "I will follow" from Joy Divisions "Transmission". Check that out.

  • @Polyfusia yea very identical has anyone actually told U2 about taking riffs and etc. ?

  • excellant , U2 is timeless

  • Sepultura's version its best xD

  • i dont see how they're overated when their lyric's have meaning! turn on the tv right now and you'll see who's overated! a kid with 3 cds and only 19 songs!! THAT is overated. This is a hard working band while he sits on his arse getting beauty compliments from 3rd graders! he probably has only has about 25 legit songs!! u2 is great so now im not going to linger on that worthless piece of trash!! LONG LIVE U2!!

  • The Edge is one great guitar player, and I mean it after hearing this track.

  • The experience of growing up during the "troubles" of Northern Ireland permeates all of U2's and Bono's lyrics and views of the world

  • Love how the rhythm section sounds on this. Not to mention that guitar. Man oh man...

  • i am a huge u2 hater, but this song is nice!

  • @kylemeg13 Why do you hate them? Honestly just wondering. :)

  • i am a huge u2 hater, but this song is nice!

  • One of my all time favourite tunes... perfection.

  • u2ool....remineds you tool of a tool song you tool ...

  • awesome!!!

  • THIS is the U2 I remeber.

  • Drove through the desert from Texas to Seattle this winter. Listened to this all the way through.

  • best band on the planet bar none

  • I love the U2 sound.. So cavernous, but light

I guess it's The Edge and Bono, how they mix

I'd say Bono has a reverb-y type of voice

    Just so pure

And well.. The Edge without reverb and delay? Come on.

This is the kind of song that.. you know what I'm talking about

I find U2 to be kind of animal in their music

It's.. such a pure essence. Maybe that's why some people say all U2 songs sound alike. It's caused they're so infused with this incredibly unique style.

  • red orange !!

  • man i had no idea this was even u2s song lol, i just assumed it was sepulturas cause it sounded so natural, this sounds kinda queer in comparison no offense XD.

  • i like the pod version best, maybe cause they're who played it the first time i heard the song though

  • 9 people are red like a rose on a thornbush.

  • @CCubed1717 is commentator doing a youtubism looking for thumbs up.

  • great song it has a very good melody

  • I love the joshua tree album.

  • I'm seriously, not at all a U2 fan. But goddamn this song is fantastic. Everything.

  • the intro reminds me of a tool song

  • @nonesta13 or the Ted Nugent song Stranglehold

  • @nonesta13 I think you mean tool songs remind you of this song.

  • @TheLegendaryLoboSolo They both remind me of pink floyd actyually.

  • @nonesta13 The whole song reminds me of a lighter version of Tool. A drivig drum beat, thumping bass line and a razor sharp vocal track.

  • @310gman Yeah this really reminds me of Sober, the intro especially.

  • @nonesta13 You've got it backwards, Tool songs remind you of this.

  • @viperdude281 ok that response comment is starting to get old...so yeah everyone stop because both tool and U2 are good and have certain styles that when you hear another band playing something similar it makes you think of that band

  • @nonesta13 No I said that because tool formed in 1990 and this song came out in 1987.

  • From the Greatest album ever produced, who the fu"k are Coldplay???

  • Im only 12 but this shit is legit...

  • Back when. shit used to be good!!

  • U2 is pretty damn overrated. But some songs like this one give me goosebumps.

  • P.O.D.'s version is badass, but the original is awesome.

  • 9 people cant see the fighter planes

  • what does he mean by bullet the blue sky?

  • @TheAngryarchangel

it means dont believe everything you hear about the promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness .........

  • @carrieluvv thats what i thought. the word revolution comes to mind.

  • @TheAngryarchangel The song seem to take on new meanings with each tour. As you would expect with U2, it's political.

  • @TheAngryarchangel well....maybe its just a bunch of 'creative' words to give it a mysterious meaning..and some things have to make no sense to turn out as amazing as the song

  • ...good song....remember when this came out.....we were doing acid, robberies....just str8 off the chain and this came out and out of the ashes we came and into the penitentiary we went. Now we're out........

  • i wish there were more songs like this

  • That's one of my preferred songs of U2 ever. Both music and lyrics tend to a perfection rarely heard.

Unfortunately they didn't explore much that way and took directions I didn't like as much.

  • That's one of my preferred songs of U2 ever. Unfortunately they didn't explore much that way and took directions I didn't like as much.

  • Badass song, my favorite part is where bono sings at 1:10-1:15, U2 ROCKS!!

  • Heard this on the way to court on the County bus that takes all inmates to the Court they are supposed to show up to in Orange County. and you could tell when this song started playing on the speakers everyone was caught in their own train of thought because the conversation hushed for a good while.. It was touching amazing and at the same time very depressing because we were all going to court to seal out fates in the Orange County Judicial System.

    wow

    memories huh? :)

  • Honestly, this is the only U2 song I really liked, and I was just curious, have they ever done anything else that's similar to this?

  • Back when U2 werent in your moms mini van

  • i need to have more songs like this

  • This song has a great rock edge to it !!! 2 Thumbs Up !!!

  • Those fighter planes, I can see them.

  • people should think about the lyrics...Bono talks about the US paying for jet fighter planes, and the terror that they evoke, and the irony is that in the end they end up running into the "arms of America" ...it gives one a chill and makes you ask is this how you want the world to perceive the US? We should all try to make sure our government isn't pursuing wars for corporate profits..like our stupid intervention in El Salvador..

  • This is the one U2 song I like.

  • when u2 playing music.

  • Well, the funny thing is, I saw U2 waaaay back before they even were famous. They had a new and fresh sound. I was a guitarist, so listening to new modes of expression on guitar (Van Halen's first LP, U2, Cocteau Twins... and others!). I saw Sepultura waaay back when as well, before they became big. I was a Sep fan, but then I mean the original line-up. And yes, I played in death metal, crossover and metal bands. But still, I like U2's original better. It leaves more space for the imagination.

  • i just cant stop listening to this song. Its just too fantastic to stop :D

  • nope!

    more cemented!!

    more rock...

    and more shred

    fuck shit up

    cheers@all

  • It's a bit too much Brian Eno-influence, haunting and captivating nontheless

  • LOL...this is awesome but in no way is it the heaviest version let alone heavy at all.

  • only one version.. this one!

  • U2 doing this song is just stupid

  • @cclizarkb i swear bitch you better fucking shut up or fucking kick the fuck out of you infact were the fuck do you live!?

  • @SilverburstPerez You must be a rare type of loser, not even the dippiest of dipshits ask where people live on the internet. You have threatened to shoot me and track me down on another comment and "beat the fuckin fuck out of me" Dude If I was half threatened by you stupid post I could report you to youtube and you would be in some serious shit. I don't so I wont just shut the fuck up and be a douchebag somewhere else. I don't like U2 it is my opinion.

  • @cclizarkb first of all i never said i was going to shoot you down and besides it is your opinion but you saying to other people that U2 sucks is being just as much of a loser as me stupid. its like saying to black people that there stupid because there black and it may your opinion but it may offend black people. just like saying U2 sucks to me it offends me because there my influence and stuff and besides U2 originally did this song so if it weren't for U2 your sepultura wouldn't exist.

  • @SilverburstPerez Agree to disagree, I think U2 sucks plain and simple, you won't change my mind on it. I know I am in the minority because they are one of the biggest bands around. I just find them generic and I see them as falsely inspirational and preachy. Black people are born Black , that is not anything like saying that they are a band who makes alot of money being a band and they suck. That really made no sense, there have to be bands you don;t like.

  • @cclizarkb look your opinion is your opinion and i know im not going to change your mind about it but at least give them props for making it big i never say any band sucks because there name is well known and mine isn't so i cant talk about them but doesn't mean you have to do what i do but i just appreciate it if you wouldn't talk about them like that.

  • @SilverburstPerez i agree man but sepultura would very much exist without u2.

  • @cclizarkb this is their song. they wrote it so I feel like they have a right to play it. besides, that metal cover wasn't too great. the chorus sounded pretty good but the intro and the verses were really boring and unmusical. they dulled down the drum part, took out a bunch of the guitar parts which is a shame because the guitar parts are my favorite :/

  • the end with the guitar sounds kind of like hendrix at times. very nice!

  • ya i agree with most comments u2's original version is way better, all around great song

  • this song is so...sexual !!!!!!!

  • great song!!!

  • Just love the song, :) u2 my hero's make me feel good, and alive.

  • @Divljina89 k well when u get a voice that is part of one of the greatest bands of all time then you can insult bono, Sepultura is just a more heavy version of this song, nothing great

  • @tdrider2008 True, but I like it better. And I don't get why is U2 so popular... But I guess it's like Lady Gaga, I'll never understand.

  • @Divljina89 well they are my fav. band but everyone likes diff music

  • all those people that say they don't like U2...they've never heard this song.

  • Heavy sound!!!

Only the new metal guys have a finger on it now......

  • farttttttttt

    fail

  • i hate ant remakes of songs like you cant write your own music i dont care if your honoring the band usually remakes of songs suck dick the remake of image by a emo band the remake of cometogether by micheal jackson sucked it just pisses me off

  • Bono told the Edge to "put El Salvador through an amplifier"...mission accomplished. Definitely one of U2's best songs...you can "feel" it.

  • i like the U2 version more.. :) just my opinion

  • i only like the solo

  • im not even a fan of u2 but i gotta admit, this is a damn good song.

  • i first heard this song played by the band P.O.D. from the album

'Fundamental Elements Of Southtown' tack 9 "MAD SONG"

  • alright

  • @hugopal Wow, you're so cool. Calling people faggots, that's so awesome. I want to be like you!

  • @JoRu94 Hi. Please cut me some slack. My fiancee dumped me that night--please cut me some slack. I was a hurting man. Please cut me some slack.

  • @JoRu94 I do too! How do I get started? Do I post ridiculous comments on Youtube and act like a generic dipshit? XD

  • Comment removed

  • @sawsqdldr it helps insulting countries if you use proper language when doing it. lets take the world like OUR Roman ancestors.

  • anyone reminded of stranglehold by ted nudget when they here this ?

  • the beat reminds me of stranglehold

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO U2 I love them soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much there so amazing all you haters go away

  • snap yo fingerz uh uh

  • Ive heard the metal covers too and although they arent all bad ya just cant beat the feel the song has when performed by U2. Besides the metal covers only real difference is way to much bass guitar and too fast. Just my opinion for what its worth.

  • Awsome :D:D:D

  • Tune!!!!! Pax to all from Ian Smith.Xxx.

  • holy shit you are all retarded...listen to that dudes vocie from sepultura...when did singing with throat cancer become a popular style...

  • Thank you for trying to love BONO I for one love you. rock it.

  • best intro to a song ever

  • Sepulturas cover is better IMO

  • personally i prefer this to sepultara's version, but they had a go

  • @ihatefosters Your stupid if you think their version is better.

  • @IAmJawz sepulturas version sounded like someone trying to take a painful shit! the only good part was the guitar solo-y type thing.

  • 100, 200! Outside it's America, well Canada for me.

  • @ those who like the Sepultura cover better: I thought so too, at first. But comparing the two, Sep's is simply more cemented, more rock, with less use of the spaces between the notes. But then listen to the first tones of U2's song. Flageolets that die away in the distance, setting the mood. Much space because of echo and controlled feedback - and the slide. Bass lays the foundation. Drums set it in motion. I like Sep's cover as well, but it is not superior to its original by any means.

  • @bookofthedamned agreed, although i will say i like igor's drumming better but U2 has sepultura beat in every other aspect.

  • @bookofthedamned U2 is indie. Sepultura is heavy/thrash. You can't compare these 3 genres. Yeah, I usually like Sepultura's version because I'm a heavy/thrash metal guy. But tonight, I don't know really why, I like this one better. This is one of the best songs I know that you should really listen when you are high. Damn, rock music is good...

  • @bookofthedamned totally agreed, and i'm sure that most people who like sepultura's cover better just like sepultura better in general. i am one of those people though

  • i can see those fighter planes

  • I seriously tried listening to the sepultura cover. The music is cool but what the hell is wrong with the singer? Let me guess, his singing idol is the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street? Jeez dude, clear your throat once in a while before you sing. I'm not that much of a U2 fan and grew up loving metal (in the mid 80s) but that cover isn't very good. Anyone saying U2 sucks but likes the cover...why would they cover it if they didn't like it? You've just bashed a band that your band likes!

  • lmao cookie monster

  • @tipigi holy shit dude...good rant, well executed

  • and POD's cover was better than sepultura's

  • heavy metal sucks! post-punk rocks!

  • better the sepultura cover

  • First time I heard this song was in '96. Loved it ever since!

  • I used 2 play the hell outta this song in my car at 4:00 am in the morning in the 80's after getting off work. Nothing like riding on an empty freeway with this song cranked up LOUD!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Wat! no music video.

  • TUNE

  • i want to have hot dirty thrusty sex to this song.

  • ...

  • Agreed.

  • metal bands covered this song to make it seem heavy

whats sad is that this is heaviest version there is.

    and its damn good.

  • @jocobain21 Hell Yeah =]

  • @jocobain21: say what?! you kiddin' me????
