the way you discounted the criticisms of assange near the start was pure win.. i wish i had just put it like that instead of being dragged into discussing the minutia of it all with people time and again.. why people would do the govs work for them and discredit everythin WL does cos of his perceived character is beyond me
@SkidRowRadio Yeah, I see it as two very separate and distinct issues. I'm not sure how people get the idea that potential legal issues for Assange are intertwined with whether or not the concept of wikileaks is good/bad. It's like saying "hey look, this one cop is sorta a douche-bag...therefore the criminal justice system must be stopped!". Makes no sense to me.
The thing that did it for me was watching a video of Hilary Clinton (well before Wikileaks released all this info) saying that the tools for getting information blocked by governments out into the open were vital for democracy... blah blah blah. Er, unless it's your OWN government, then it's okay to block it, right? From what I've seen most of the leaks are hardly earth-shattering, little more than embarrassing comments made in 'private'. It's good that governments get embarrassed sometimes.
@Gisburne2000 Yeah, avoiding the embarrassment of having something a politician or government official said in the past is not a very good reason to keep secrets from the public in my opinion...
That documentary made me sad, and mad, and probably a few other things rhyming with "ad". I agree with you on everything you said in this vid. I guess we don't have anything to argue about today.
BTW great to see that the air quotes are back. I missed those.
