  • I don't give a damn about scientific accuracy. I just want to know how to make one of those cat dolls.

  • my science teacher played it so i danced

  • People who are commenting on this video about how the song is incorrect need to know the context of when this song was originally written. TMBG just did a cover of a song off an an album called "The Space Songs". And it was popular during the late 50's early 60's. We really didn't know that much about space or the sun. Heck we hadn't even gone to the moon. The point of the song is to teach children about space things while being catchy and fun.

  • why didnt i have this song in the 6th grade lol i would have never forgot it

  • Vindicators of They Thumbs up :D

  • @andibadboy123 I always get stunned And i find this Offensive.

  • @JulioGarcia987 Cool story bro, go tell your mom.

  • this song is wrong, but its catchier than the other one

  • Heard this in year 5!

  • ya baby

  • I sang this song in 9th grade science. Its been stuck in my head ever since.

  • 1) I'm not in 8th grade anymore so it might be a little difficult to do. 2) We all knew this song is wrong. 3) Because the sun is really made of plasma. >.>

  • xD My 8th grade science teacher made us watch this over and over and over. And this song will forever be imprinted into my brain.

  • @SunDropSkittlez Well then tell hom this song is wrong. Tell him to make you watch Why Does The Sun Really Shine? because thats the correct one

  • It's like schoolhouse rock but awesome

  • its plasma

  • @KoolKidsMarioMen yeah no duh. They even made another song stating that

  • This song has been updated...

  • My science teacher showed this today

  • omg this is awesome

  • Actually, the sun IS made of gas, but it's so incredibly dense, many times more dense than say a gas giant like Jupiter, that it's own mass compresses that gas into the fourth state of matter aka Plasma, so technically, if you think about it, this song is still correct to some degree. :P

  • they say huge stars burn out and create black holes right? but yet the universe came from nothing.. although there is a black hole in the middle of our galaxy and other galaxies as well..

    RIIIIIIGHT

  • @krunkmike369 Also, that's been explained because the supergiants that become black holes are so massive and dense, even by the standard of stellar bodies, that they burn themselves out in only a few MILLION years, as opposed to billions, so conceivably, there's plenty of time in the universal timeline for many of the densest to have burned out long before our little planet even formed, or we started observing space.

  • I heard this in science before they corrected themselves. The sun is a miasma of incondecent plasma. This is better though.

  • it's so COOL!

  • @mirosango14: That was my point. :P Remember when "Particle Man" and "Istanbul" were featured on Tiny Toon Adventures back in the day? Good times.

  • Man, it's been too long since I followed TMBG...Seems like yesterday I was jamming to "Particle Man."

    I need this album. XD

  • @Ongarukat yeah there awesome they even showed up in AQWorlds

  • @Ongarukat Particle Man isn't on this album. it's on one of their oldest ones, Flood. ;)

  • Why do people continue to complain when they did correct themselves in another song? Jesus people, we got it the first time around.

  • The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma....

  • not gas! PLASMA!

  • The sun is an Mass of Incandescent Gas aka also a move on AQW

  • I sang this in preschool - when I did not know what it even meant

  • Who sings this version?

  • @OhMyGoshCookies97 John Linnell sings this version.

  • that was awesome

  • The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma

  • @SlimySnail44 the sun's not simply made out of gas, oh no nooooo

  • @PeppyTurtle3 *plasma* electrons are free~ *plasma* fourth state of matter~ :3

  • @SlimySnail44 Not gas! not liquid not solidddddd! Ooo!

  • @PeppyTurtle3 ^_^

  • anybody learn from 7th grade teacher? i did im in 9th now lol ive been soo lazy to search this song, but i have nothing to do and i remmebered this

  • :D

  • my science teacher sent me here

  • @kitkatsweetie15

"my science teacher sent me here"

    Your teacher is cool.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer well he played it in class so im watching it again ;p

  • A cat playing theremin?YEAH!

  • We had to sing this in science today xD

Our lab group was the only one that sang alone.....Now its stuck in my head!

  • @okamilover99999 lol same

  • i love this vid :) we watched it in science for fun lol

  • @TheQuincess13 i think i kno u .... do u go to cjms

  • @Hockeyjeph88 Mark Hoppus got them to record this on an album.

  • @MrDizzyEdge Oh nice! I LOVE Blink 182 (like, a lot! :P) So i got really confused..

  • @Hockeyjeph88 me too, yeah, i thought it was sick that mark wrote them a letter when he was sixteen about the song and they put it on an album.

  • @MrDizzyEdge wow thats awesome! hey, might as well say it but you should check my covers. they suck i know, but the extra view wouldn't hurt ;) jk Mark Hoppus is a beast

  • @Hockeyjeph88 definately, ill check them out.

  • @MrDizzyEdge Sweet, thanks! :P

  • I love the theremin!

  • who knew that the sun is huge

  • ahaha we had to fill in the blank with the lyrics in my earth science block period in class

  • @TheSamoanpimpcess wtf, is it in Davie, perhaps? Has a very sarcastic teacher, starts with Mr. Man?

  • This song always makes my day

  • FUNNY! :D

  • ...is...

  • this...

  • Learnt this song in school

  • They plaes this song at our school assembly. Me and my friend cracked up coz he whispered "every time they say sun, pretend there saying asshole!" so we were watching and we were they only ones in assembly laughing and everyone stared at us. Lol great video

  • @mastercheifoncrack you can't be older than 11 yo

  • We got to see the music video for this in class! But it was the version that was on KaBlam!.

  • I love TMBG for putting a record player in a kids video

  • CHarlie.

  • charlie?

  • @MrTictactics pretty much

  • @MrTictactics Who? This is John L and John F...

  • its great but its wrong info

  • @Thornsberryfamily they actually made a song on that... its /watch?v=sLkGSV9WDMA&feature=related

  • @rationalcube cool thanks

  • @Thornsberryfamily How So?

  • @carbarsd the sun is not made from Helium or so i have heard

  • @Thornsberryfamily Primarily hydrogen

  • This is awesome

  • this doesn't sound like tmbg....

  • God I remember this on Kablam!

  • They play this at my job sometimes. Usually whenever it starts raining.

  • This is like the best video by them! WHO DOESN'T LOVE SMILING SUNS, AND KITTIES!!!

  • I'm so hot, only gases live on me!

  • we listened to this in 5th grade science, along with why the sun really shines. Thanks to my teacher these songs have a happy home on my ipod.

  • Definitely listened to this in my college astronomy class. Pure brilliance :)

  • @PianoChick36 I heard somewhere that they took a 60's math book, took info from it and used it to write this song. Just to show show stupid we were.

  • lol i watched this in class yesterday

those felt cats are super cute!

  • the helium is not a gas! its ash because of the intense pressure at the core of the sun

  • @Darkness3968 what

  • @xxVampirePenguinxx the core of the sun has helium in its solid form, in other words helium ash

  • I learned it in 6th grade.

  • we watched this in 8th grade science and everyone started singing it lol

  • @

    same here

  • 可愛すぎる^^

  • @XieYali agree

  • Comment removed

  • Damn Mr. Stenlund

  • Mark Hoppus sent me here haha

  • We watched this today in science class. thumbs up if you wish they teach all subjects like this

  • I learned about the sun today in forensics.

    Best. Lesson. Ever.

  • This is the crack song

  • this is how i study

  • the highlight of freshman year

  • THIS is why sixth grade rocked so much lolllllzzzz

  • woooo! sun the sun is hot... dude are you sure?

  • this song is great

  • i never knew i couldn't live on the sun!

  • THE SUN... IS A MIASMA!.... OF INCANDESCENT PLASMA!

    lulz!

  • vg b hf hjbg yujh

  • A stop motion cat playing a stop motion theremin? Possibly the best thing ever.

  • @sirwillifer did you know the guy who invented the theremin was a former soviet spymaster?

  • Someone should combine the two songs. The upbeat attitude of this one, and the scientific accuracy of the other one.

  • WRONG!!!!! The sun isn't a mass of incandescent gas!!! It's a MIASMA of incandescent PLASMA!!!!

  • @NicoTheSecondDoctor duh in the other video

  • I found this right after my astronomy class went over the sun XD This is awesome!

  • I love the part where the kitty is playing the theremin =D

  • hehe this information is sooo wrong!

  • @JUSTICEGIRL2009 This song is a 1993 cover of a song from 1959, if I'm not mistaken. Back then, this theory was considered accurate. But when They Might Be Giants released "Severe Tire Damage" in 1998 (and "Here Comes Science" in 2009), they added the song "Why Does the Sun Really Shine?" with the recently updated information - that the sun is a "miasma of incandescent plasma." They even corrected themselves in the song by singing, "Forget that song; they got it wrong!" and other similar lines.

  • awsome :)

  • ... I just discovered They Might Be Giants an hour ago...

    NOW I LOVE SCIENCE! :D

  • @Molagbal38 i have like the same story hahaha

  • @Molagbal38 Reddit?

  • My Cell Bio teacher turned me onto this...

  • DA SUN ISA MASS OF INCANDESCENT GAS A GIGANTIC NUCLEAR FURNACE

  • It's plasma, not gas. Also, it doesn't crush atoms, but combine them.

  • @PistolOfShame That's why they wrote a revision. Check out "Why Does The Sun Really Shine?"

  • @hamertime29 Oh, really? Thanks. It's a really good song... just those two points tick me off. I'm a science geek.

  • that's sad.. I know all the words..

  • my chemistry teacher sang this to our class :D

  • My 3 yo LOVES this song as much as I do!

  • =D love the song!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Its NOT wrong when you hear the OTHER song on the CD. You gotta listen to them together.

  • I know it's wrong and I don't care. It's still catchy.

  • No one gives a fuck if it's correct or not, it's music LOL.

  • HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS SONG BEFORE???

  • Misleading, the sun is made out of plasma.

  • @Skatedonut1847 A miasma of incandescent plasma.

  • @Skatedonut1847 I like this version of the song better though. The other version which talks about the sun being plasma is just too laid back...

  • Sun is a p-p reactor, not a CNO-cycle as it is being sang here )) awesome song! ))

  • @nocturnal0330 Even if predominantly proton-proton, it's technically both! Yay equilibria! So the song is technically correct! Yay technicalities!

  • This song is really nostalgic for me because I grew up with these guys and this song was my favourite when I was little.

  • this is premiring in my school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol wrong

  • I LOVE the theremin cameo!

  • @therealsurfgirl1 Oh, they know.

    /watch?v=sLkGSV9WDMA

  • @therealsurfgirl1 hence they made a song called why does the sun really shine - about it actually being plasma. :)

  • D:

    This...is....SO AWESOME!!

  • Technically, I am revising <3

  • LOL, My science teacher Mr. Kellough showed us this. Then he made us sing it. XD

  • Lolz i saw this in the planetarium at school today!
