@1REALTUFFGUY , I own Van Staal reels, which I never need to replace, as long as I rinse them off with fresh water and spray them down with WD-40 after each outing. I still have the origional reel I bought in 1995 (VS-250B), It is very beat up,(scratched and dinged) but I still use it all the time!
It is not at all difficult to release big fish while skishing. The fish are not taken from the water and they are quite docile after ten minutes on the hook. The big bass will give a wink and swim gently to the bottom, after freeing the hook. Yes, those big blues are a bit of a trial to release, and often start a wrestling match. This is a reason for the gloves! I find that if you grab them by the eye sockets, they calm down pretty quick!
Hey Paul this is TOTALLY awesome !!! Only a really big brave strong man would venture out into a Huge school of Blitzing fish!!! I'm sure your Dry suit will support you from Drowning and you'll be far enough away from everyone on the beach so they can't cast a lure that far enough to hit you. I see your by all the rocks Where the BOATS can't go so you'll be safe :) You make it Look easy and it's so much better than standing on the beach with watching the fish and wishing you could reach them.
the point of skishing is to get out past where the surf fisherman can reach. it allows you to fish with no crowds. also, you can drift in the current all the way down a beach hitting every spot it is generally safe, as the wet suit gives you bouyancy
Great to see this interesting fishing style in video. Good camera work, better work with that lure. See you out there sometime I hope. I'll buy you a beer.
I finally see wat it is now. I surf fishing here in Mass and some part of RI for over 10yrs but never witness this kind of fishing beside reading on the internet. You guy are BRAVE! thank for sharing...
Nice that you can share your walrus moments with us. Now all you need is a marine grade bean bag with a cup holder. Say Paul are you using the Hero or the Contour HD?
The lure used is a Yozuri Mag Darter, my go to out here.

Looks difficult unhooking and releasing. How tough is it to release a cow or a gator blue? Excellent video btw... lets see more more more!!!!
