  • Bruce fucking LaBrie!

  • can we all chill out. Its Dream Theater, an amazing band, paying tribute to Maiden, another amazing band. Its not trying to be better, and im sure Dream Theater would say the same thing. Its a great cover of a great song.

  • Nice Cover, the singer do what he can, thats because Bruce voice its unrepleceable, the tapping part, i heard it to techno, and the piano was out of place. But nice cover indeed. Maiden Fan.

  • Excellent cover indeed, but I'm afraid that there is no way to immitate the air raid siren :D

  • I, think jame´s voice is like , he dindnt pronounce the words -.-

  • Pretty good work, but I think I sing it the best in my car on the way to work. I sound great to myself...... Up The Irons....

  • Oh my god, reading these comments, i'm embarrassed of these iron maiden fans. Being a HUGE fan of DT AND IM, (my two favourite bands), i have to say, you maiden fans are being ridiculous and subjective, thinking nothing is better than iron maiden, whereas the dt fans are all most likely maiden fans too, meaning they have respect for both artists. This is an insane cover, not as good as the studio orignal, but probably just as good as a maiden live version. Btw, maiden couldn't play DOE

  • The instrumental part is beyond perfect...

The vocal part, not so much....The singer seems to put almost no emotion on it..."Children of the daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (all in the same note) aaaaaaaaaaaaaamned....."

He also butchered Master of Puppets...

  • fuck the piano

  • @MrMethadrine Don't knock it, man. I play keyboards in a metal band!

  • this is a great piece and a great cover. just enjoy it and shut up...

  • The solo sound like "One" from Metallica

  • @traviangeek100

Both solos use tapping technique. Children of the Damned is 6 years older than One anyway.

  • This is a great version. Sure, any bands original recording will always be the best, but this is live. Dickinson can't sing live. His high notes are extremely thin and I love him as a singer. He is a pioneer and a hero but let's face it, he could never sing DT's "Another Hand/Killing Hand" like LaBrie did in 1992. Look it up. LaBrie ruptured his vocal chords twice and still sings well. If you don't like his tone, oh well. Both singers are awesome, but come on, Labrie prime > Dickinson.

  • @Proghead26 dickinson cant sing live? LOLOLOLOL are you watching the person off to the side of the stage doing sign language while you got dicks in your ears?

  • @Proghead26

ok i can see u are bg DT fan, but plz do u have ears ? Labrie sing ok but nothing special in comparse with male testosteron singing by Bruce, he is just The Vienna Boys' Choir memeber, all his note is on right place and thats it.. sometimes even not that... Dickinson > Labrie

  • @wequalsbob sure Iron Maiden can cover Dream Theater, because if you hear this cover and focus in the voice, the vocalist isn't good enought to cover this song, Bruce is better then him, but Dream Theater is awesome, but Iron Maiden is better ^^

  • Up the irons

  • @klumzeedt Dream Theater is good, but better than Maiden? LOL Nope.

  • @klumzeedt good analysis.

  • @klumzeedt Bullshit iron maiden is better. and less commercial DT is good though.

  • @catshumpcats3 They're not comparable at all. :|

  • Great version, but Bruce =Bruce...

  • Sebastian Bach do a so much better job than labries

  • Great instrumental cover but VOCALS sucks at all

  • Comment removed

  • @klumzeedt Maiden commercial?????? have you ever heard Maiden playing on a mainstream radio station, oh, lets say at noon for instance???? I don't thinks so..... Well, in skandinavia maybe, but that's a different story. Maiden ,ever since the begining ,never had ,neither radio nor television support. On the other hand, I don't think that DT's music is harder to "digest". It's just different than Maiden. And even if that's the case, those who choose not to give them a 2nd chance, it's there loss

  • @ironmaiden270393 holy smoke was played on the radio, fear of the dark live 92(donington) on MTV

  • @10078g dude you're completely wrong they are one of the best selling bands in history

  • @klumzeedt ....iron maiden are hardly recognised , theres 1 commercial thing about iron maiden and that is run to the hills , they are nt commercial at all

  • @klumzeedt brilliant

  • Woah. Butchered the solo there. And the vocals are a tad whiny.

  • Every Maiden fan will bitch and every DT fan will say its the best thing ever. We get it.

But on another note, I wonder if Maiden would be able to cover DT as well as DT covers Maiden...

  • @wequalsbob They don't need to , because they are Iron Maiden , get it ?

  • @wequalsbob Actually this is horrible just an awfull cover

  • @wequalsbob im a huge fan of both bands, and i must say, this is good. musically, its perfect. vocally, suprisingly amazing. you need bruce dickinsons vibrato if your gunna cover a maiden song..and his range..which is amazing. and rare for mankind to have, whereas brucey is a god and what not

  • @wequalsbob hey... it's different! Both play really good and lets not mix it, so as DT plays Maiden really good their own way, Iron Maiden can play DT too, if they wanna, but lets never forget that we are all Heavy Metal fans a strong and powerful community and lets not break it appart. Heavy Metal is almost good at all bands, except some, but at least they try too. They're not like all Faggy and so like some Pop singer that uses some auto-tune, stuppid sentimental lyrics and puff, there's music

  • @wequalsbob doubt it...

  • Labrie legitimately outdoes Bruce at the end of this, takes the original high note and slides up to like a G5 or something ridiculous like that.

This is probably the best DT Maiden cover I've heard, great performance

  • Haha bollocks Maiden is commercial. Just because their music is comparatively easy listening doesnt make them commercial. Trying to be technical for the sake of it, can also be considered commercial, you want to appeal to only that section of the audience. Call Maiden of all the bands commercial is sheer faggotry.

  • i loved the "where eagles dare" intro as ending xD

  • good cover, not as good as maidens obvioulsy but still good.

  • P.S (2) In my comment I say Nicko because I was talking about the Download Festival version in 2007, but the original version is played by Clive Burr, that in my opinion plays better this song than Mike too.

  • vocal sucks

  • @hmcccp Bad troll is troll

  • Watch the Download Festival 2007 MAIDEN's version. Is fucking better. Is one of the best versions of this song.

MAIDEN is not commercial, but their musicians don't need to be exibicionists to show that they are the best.

    UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a real good cover.

But there's no doubt that MAIDEN'S version is far better than this.

Bruce sings a much more than this singer.

Nicko plays a far better too. he destroys.

Steves' bass is a "punch" in the ear, is stronger.

Man, Bruce sings a much more than this singer!!!!!

And I don't say this because MAIDEN is my favourite band. I say because it's true.

    MAIDEN is not commercial.

The last scream only Bruce knows how to do well.

    UP THE IRONS!!!!!!

  • I don't like the singer. He's technically awesome, but lacks the raw emotion that makes this song awesome. Anyway, maybe I'm just being stubborn, but I've never heard a Maiden cover that I liked. I guess Iron Maiden is one of a kind.

  • @klumzeedt Maiden is more commercial?!? Huh. First time ive ever heard Maiden called "commercial" which they certainly are not.

  • @40blacksabbath he meant more commercial than DT which is true

  • Better than Iron Maiden's original song

  • Maiden and Dream Theater are both awesome at what they respectively do. I am a fan of both. DT do some amazing Maiden covers.

  • @TheAdam159 Sure, they both awesome and insuperables

But, Maiden is older, so he has more credit...

    Am I right?

anyways, I rather enjoy this music

  • This song sounds very different without Dickinson's lead. Pretty good.

  • not bad, but is way better the iron maiden one (:

  • @klumzeedt And am I glad I did. As a musician and musiclover I know how hard the songs are that DT produces, that is what makes me appreciate the music even more.

  • comparing labrie and bruce, i just can not listen to labrie's high notes. he sounds like somebody is ripping his ass :/

  • You people are retarded for caomparing two completely diferent bands not to mention there is almost 10 year diference betwen the bands . Both are great in what they'r doing.

  • @klumzeedt Sorry but I'm pretty sure that Dickinson has a better voice than LaBrie (The reason LaBrie has suffered so many injuries to his instrument is through misuse by pushing his voice etc, whereas Dickinson is 50 odd years old and can still hit the same notes he was hitting 25 years ago). Dream Theater is actually alot less technical than iron maiden; as much as i love JP... Adrian and Dave both outclass him in both performance and composition. (Gers isn't even close to any of them!)

  • @Mjollnir1990

    Yeah, fuck Jannick!

  • @Mjollnir1990 You are very wrong. The reasons is that he ruptured his vocal chords in 1995, and still performed instead of taking a rest. The tone of his voice changed forever.

  • Yes Bruce is better. But how can you not like LaBrie. He sounds good to me. It can be 100 times worse. NO one can ever be as good as Bruce so dont expect it in any cover.

  • The vocals have obviously been re-recorded... Awesome cover nonetheless.

  • DT is a great band for sure, but they cant get any close to MAIDEN, they defined heavy-hard rock music, being surely one of the best band ever, and BRUCE can sing almost anything he decide to sing, clearly he would do a great job singing DT songs

  • anyone notice the Where Eagles Dare drum solo from 4:55-4:58?

  • Not impressed by vocals....

  • @DonRC1994 LaBrie can't sing maiden's song... he has a higher voice than dickinson but less powerful... no-one as Air Raid Siren!!!

  • @willly920 Imagine Bruce trying to sing a Dream Theater song? I think James did a epic job inside his vocal range and style. n.n

  • @willly920 Hahah yeah, Bruces wail at the end of 'Flight of Icarus' on the album =3

  • @DonRC1994 Because LaBrie is playing a damaged instrument.

  • WHERE CAN I GET THIS BOOTLEGGED ALBUM?

  • @KnowlesRyan ytsejamrecords(dot)com

  • my favorite maiden track. well played DT

  • No chance for Labrie. His voice is to thin to sing Bruce.

  • I honestly am not a dream theater fan but this is pretty damn cool, so far I have found 3 remakes and 1 hammerfall (child of the damned) witch I thought I have recognized and led me to this.

  • Dream Theater's singer lacks some anger in the songs, he sings really clean, which is actually difficult, really difficult, but in this song, for example, some hardness in the voice helps it sound a lot better.

Anyway, they are two great singers

  • To all the DT fans out there, just face it - LaBrie has a timbre to his voice that is either loved or hated by all. I like it, up until he completely loses diction because of it, but I can forgive that, considering that Bruce Almighty himself couldn't hit the top note at the end of this song live back in '86, never mind now, and LaBrie is pushing 40 and still has all of his range, in spite of all he's been through.

  • @TheMetalChefOnline make it Labrie is almost 49 matter of fact. Truth is at Final Frontier Bruce sounded good again also!! If its James Bruce Ozzy or whatever old geezer, its easy to disrespect at internet. Even in a wheelchair this guys deserve respect. Lets try it for ourselves and then judge their qualities!!

  • @kevintje82onboard Oh hell, I didn't realize this was that recent. I love me some Maiden, and there will only ever be 1 Bruce, but James owned this.

  • @TheMetalChefOnline He's actually 48 this year

  • You know what i've noticed? Since Portnoy left DT and everyone realises that DT might die, suddenly everyone respects James again. THANK GOD

  • @kevintje82onboard Yes. ^This. IS. SOOOO FUCKING TRUE

  • Why no big band covers DT songs? :(

  • @Firedblood not epic enough yet and supposenly to difficult

  • It's a good cover. The only thing I don't like is how James' vowels always go wide on the higher notes...

  • my second favorite band cover my ALL TIME FAVORITE! ...this is awesome

  • Great cover!... Props to Dream Theater for their kind gesture of reverence... to the Lords of Metal: Iron Maiden (UP THE IRONS)!!!

  • It's always funny seeing 'fans' bashing bands when commenting on covers and forgetting that bands cover each other OUT OF RESPECT...

Great cover, I like Therion one more though.

  • My God... it sucks soooo badly.

  • @LBanchio Quit bitching. This cover is flawless. Even if you're a Labrie hater, because you like your males to be quiet, deep, unconfronting, and uninteresting you can't hate on this because he nailed it. I'll even venture to say that he did this better than Maiden did live. Also, the day Bruce hits that F# your bitching may be a little warranted.

  • @Zackattack9985 Whatever, Zack. Everybody knows that James SUCKS. =) What are they going to do without Portnoy now?

  • @LBanchio Making fukking good music without that arrogant arsehole maybe??

  • @kevintje82onboard They SOOOO need to bring Bozzio in to replace him. How fucking sick would THAT be?!

  • @TheMetalChefOnline Or that other guy.. Mike Manilla or something like that. Either way, DT aint dead because MP left.

  • @TheMetalChefOnline judas priest drummer!

  • Dream Theater and Iron Maiden both rule. Labrie and Dickinson both rule. I dont think DT's trying to outplay Maiden, they're just paying homage to their maestros, and they did a damn fine job I might add

  • better than the originial version!!

  • the msuic is good, but the vocals arent good for this song...

  • Sebastian Bach' s version is also incredible damn good! Bruce Dickinson said in an interview that S. Bach did the best cover of this song. Worth to check out....

  • dayum! me gusta

  • CHILDEN O DA DAAAAAAAAAMM (according to james =D )

  • Eargasm

  • I love the orignal and i cant compare, but dream theater did a great job on this!

  • Sorry but this version for me is so much bettere than the original..it really thrills me..

  • Both Iron Maiden and Dream Theater are extremely good instrumentally and even the singers are great. They`re having huge respect for each other as they`re playing together this summer but Dream Theater are still technically better

  • @Sofoklesmaniac NO WAY

Maiden is FAR superior lyrically, and musically, they are just more interesting.

I do like some dream theater but it's MAIDEN.

  • they should find new vocal

  • Better than the original

  • @IcoTheBest Never!

  • @progressivelectro The instrumental section is way better than the original...

  • Yes! Bruce Dickinson is the better singer per se, but only in the studio. I've seen Maiden live three times, and everytime i was disappointed that Brucie, as much as i love that man, had lost his voice after the third song. What was left was screaming into the mic and had not much to do with singing. LaBrie can sing for two hours with hardly any loss of power in his voice.

  • @irelandexplorer i saw Maiden on the last show of the Somewhere Back in Time tour, and after like a year and a half on the road, he sounded AMAZING. best show ive ever seen.

  • i love how they put the drum part from where eagles dare at the end of the song

  • Hey can someone tell me what you mean by Labrie is technically better? thanks :)

  • @S4CK80Y better endurance in his voice (haven't seen bruce doing a 3 hour concert), greater range, cleaner voice and employment of wider range of singing techniques.

  • @MrDreamTom thanks :) but I think Bruce sounds better :)

  • @S4CK80Y well who sounds better is something totally different and depends on taste.

  • awesome cover, but nothing can be better than maiden :D \m/

  • Wonders why they played this 1/2 a step up when Labrie is struggling in the upper register.

  • Dude, check your ears and I mean that in a respectful way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with his performance. I cover this tune and many others in this genre and James NAILED it. I think what you may be hearing is the difference between James and Bruce with regard to tone of voice and thickness of voice. Not one pitch problem and he certainly doesn't struggle one little bit in the upper registers. Not trying to argue, but I'm a very experienced vocalist and I don't hear him struggling

  • Fair play, it IS a difference in voice, and Labrie is in pitch, and I'm not saying Labrie isn't a great vocalist (Awake is one of my all time fav albums). That said, I will stand by my opinion that he is having to work to stay in pitch on the high bits and would benefit from singing even a tone lower.

  • la intro es igual a take your fingers from my hair

  • face the facts...bruce was a young talented kid and now a great talented and educated(musically) giant of heavy metal...labrie is an educated musician..he will never catch the feeling the air raid siren had...!!!plus...bruce had 15 years of great voice...labrie only 9-10 then he collapsed...!!! so...UP THE IRONS...!!!!

  • @kontax21 what do you mean collapse? He ruptured his vocal chords 2 times (one because of food poisoning, 1 because of overtiring it) and he still sings extremly well (i saw them in their 2009 tour). So he sings for about 20 - 25 years (1986 - 2010) with extensive tours with MORE than one band. When it comes to comparison Labrie is way better technically as a singer, now if you prefer Bruce's voice its your taste and your choice.

  • They should have asked Bruce to do the vocals rofl. DT's vocalist isn't bad but he doesn't fit the Heavy Metal style at all IMO

Cover is nice (apart from the vocals at moments) BUT how the hell could they leave out the acoustic guitar ??? The piano is a nice try but come on, the acoustics MADE this song ^^

So nice cover but not so nice in the end, or what ? lol

  • C'mon, we're talking of two eras completely different! Back in the days, few bads could even be compared to Maiden. Jejeje... I have a hard time just imaging Maiden even TRYING to play DT. But, vocaly speaking, you can't compare Labrie's voice to Dickinson's early days... In fact, I just can't stand Labrie's for too much time. It's kinda annoying ;-P

  • No way that Labrie can beat Bruce as a singer. Let's face the facts.

  • i think labrie in his prime was better than bruce. but bruce is undeniably one of the best there ever was

  • Then you are fucking blind to see the fact. There is no beating cos Bruce is even dead.

  • When DT covers something they cover it right. This song is fucking ridiculous.

  • saw DT perform this song live 8 years ago in Ahoy Rotterdam. Almost crapped my pants when heard it.

  • yes total Eclipse is on TNOTB. Dont you have the album

  • OMG DT made a good cover :D

  • Yuck.

  • Dream theater is the only band that has done a decent ironmaiden cover,Machine head did a ok one of hallowed be thy name

  • @666RapSucks666

machine head's cover of negative creep, from nirvana, is a awesome cover, check that cover out, and metallica did once a cover of iron maiden, and that was also a succes, there are also plenty of other bands, who did a great cover of iron maiden, iron maiden is one of the most covered bands in the metal industrie

  • where the eagles dare at the end haha

  • labrie? is this really you singing?

omfg, james is on fuckin fire in this one. he is singing like hell :o

  • This solo is played by keyboard+guitar.. that's why it sounds "better".

  • I don't think it sounds pedal, I think it sounds more modern but not better, Maiden where masters of harmony and the did it right. Also this guy cannot compare to Bruce as far as singing goes.

  • Comment removed

  • @hamielec :you know that this cover was played in 2005 right?and maiden wrote this song in 1982, right?.playing a tapping solo in 2005 is "nothing" as you say, but playing a tapping solo in 1982 is like "teaching"...so dream theater are NOT teaching maiden how to play their own songs of course...

  • @Zooperman89 Nope, Dream Theater honours Maiden for setting the standart

  • @Zooperman89 playing a tapping solo in 1982 wasn't teaching anything either. Steve Hackett (original Genesis) and Mick Box (original Uriah Heep) were finger-tapping in 1970...

Eddie didn't invent tapping, he just elevated it to an art form.

  • @TheMetalChefOnline Actually I heard of a jazz guitarist tapping in the 30s but I don't know anything else about that.

  • @Zooperman89

No, but like so many other songs DT has covered, they're playing it like they wrote it, and that makes me smile. Nothing worse than a poorly performed cover.

  • @Zooperman89 well said! hahah

  • your fuckin dumb dude

  • @hamielec : oh my god!!! we are talking about legends like the iron maiden... none can say dream theater or any else groups are better of iron maiden, they're the best.... bruce dickinson's voice is better than labrie, he is GOD

  • @smargia96 Iron Maiden may be legends because they've been aroudn and pioneered a style. The beatles are also old and pioneered a style but neither the beatles nor iron maiden are the greatest bands. Just because they are significant and important bands to the history of rock doesnt mean they are any good in the long run. Dream Theater is not a perfect band and they have created many useless songs but for me as a classically trained musician saying that Iron Maiden is better than DT is comedy!

  • @hamielec of course that was my opinion

  • Yeah, you can't compare the two bands. Iron Maiden are legends, that's right, and Bruce is great. But I think everyone has to aprecciate LaBries voice, and the abilities of the band.

  • @hammondplayer91 i didn't say this is a bad band... i just said that he had not to do these album cover in my honest opinion

  • Iron maiden is great and I can respect your opinion although most musically educated listeners/musicians would laugh at that idea. For me, Dream Theater (if you actually know their works and not the commercial crap they put out) is way above maiden and labries vocal talents are also better but the truth is that there are even better bands! Instead of bitching about whose THE BEST, go listen to a wider variety of music and you'll learn that theres no limit to how good music can be!

  • admittedly I prefer labrie's vocals for the intro before the chorus. Dickinson is better overall though

  • hey how come they didnt do total eclipse? searched for it but couldnt find it...hmmm...

  • because Total Eclipse wasn't on the original release of TNOTB

  • my two favorite bands of all time :)

  • hahaha where eagles dare at the end. NICE

  • 4:40, nicely done :)

  • I agree with nick12548 i wished i liked the singer beter becouse the rest of the band is so good. Awsome cover tho

  • Actually James screams higher than Bruce's original version, at the end of the song.

  • @Razor745 Yes, but James will never have half as the balls than Bruce has.

  • @Razor745

No, he hits exactly the note that Bruce did on the record - he just holds the big screech at the back end a little longer. I've worn out 3 vinyl copies and countless cassette copies of Number, I know every note from every song on that record.

  • @TheMetalChefOnline Haha, nice! Well, you're probably right, sorry. But technically, James is pretty damn close to Bruce anyway.

  • @Razor745 James did a bang-up job on this one. It irks me when people bitch about his voice. The man can sing his ass off - the only time that wasn't true was during the food poisoning incident - there's a YT vid of him singing "Under a Glass Moon" during that time period, and it was HORRID.

  • this is maddd cover his voice sounds ok

solo is megacreepy i like it:)

  • dream theater love this album hehehe
