  • Not sure why you would believe that you'd have NO new growth? You get new growth when your hair grows out of your scalp. Unless the treatment also stops your hair from growing (which I'm sure no one wants), YOURE DEFINITELY GOING TO HAVE NEW GROWTH.

  • She needed to go to a professional, the cost is $300-650 or more . She got ripped off. I wonder how much she paid, because to be honest this is the first negetive thing that I heard about Thermal Reconditioning ( Japanese hair straightening ) the more expensive the more affective. It does work, she just didn't get it at the right place.

  • OK!! There are only two ways to straighten the hair.....Heat or some Chemical...I don't give a damn what kind of chemical it is or how harse or safe they say it is, it's still a chemical. Japanese hair straightening!! lmao!

  • DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAH! IF YOU GOT NO NEW GROWTH THEN THAT MEANS YOUR HAIR FOLCLES HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AND YOU CAN'T GROW HAIR ( AT LEAST SOMETHING LIKE THAT

  • thank you sweetie i was thinking of doing that but now i know i have to ask questions and tell the salon lady she's dead if my hair gets nasty after lol

  • thank you sweetie i was thinking of doing that but now i know i have to ask questions and tell the salon lady she's dead if my hair gets nasty after lol

  • so is the japanese thing just a relaxer because it sounds like a relaxer to me

  • ....at what point did you tell the stylist to STOP?

  • you dont have to flat iron it after

  • What salon did you go to?

  • when i walk out of the salon i look like a model and it stays that way every day for about 8 months. then the new growth is long enough that it makes a difference and i get it done again. my hair is about halfway down my back. i dont know why they charge so much in the states. they are taking advantage of you guys. but get someone who knows what they are doing. if its done right its great!

  • okay so i live in japan and get mine done about every 8 months. here it costs a lot less (about 150) she did NOT do it right. i dont know why everyone on here seems to think it takes 6 hours because mine always take 3. but it is a long process. they are supposed to let the stuff sit on your hair for a while then they wash it out and then they straighten it and then they put other stuff in it and let that sit and then wash that out. then they dry it.

  • your stylist charged you $180 for the Japanese straightener??? That should have been your first clue. Im african american and it cost me $600. It was an 8hr process. It also lasted me upwards 6 months! I LOVED it! I couldnt wash my hair for 3 days after the application, but when I did... I literally could wash my hair and step out the shower and go. Air dry... JET STRAIGHT! Do your research, find a stylist certified to do this. It really is a great product. Sorry you had a experience.

  • thank god for ppl like u bc u just saved my hair!

  • @briannacollins44 Girl do not listen to this chick. She got ripped off by an unquaified stylist. Read the comments on this page. This procedure should cost you no less than $500 EVER. It works and it lasts. You only need to retouch the new growth. Your hair will stay straight even after you wash it. I am black and that is a MIRACLE!. Seriously this changed my life. Go to the Yuko or Liscio websites (The top names in Japanese straightening) to find a QUALIFIED stylist in your area. ;-)

  • @Jcrof i got mine done gor 200& and its been almost a year and my hair is perfect she got scamed

  • Crap!

  • Your stylist tricked you, she took your money and ruined your hair, and its supposed to cost at least $500. You should have known at the beginning

  • never go 2 sum1 who isnt trained in the proper use of the Japanese technique it does work check out hairstalent all 1 word here on youtube and face book she really breaks it down for you on the process. whomever did your hair didnt say what they really did! and it cost more the 180

  • ok so i just wanted to say japeneses relaxers work great but this is where you went wrong you got one for 180$ it was a cheap product the really good japeneses relaxers are 500 and up and for you lenght of hair its probably around 900 bucks for you never get something like that for cheap becuse you get what you pay for

  • @tia133 The chemicals are not different enough to make a difference. No one should pay $500.00. You are not paying for the chemicals at that point. The chemicals themselves only cost around 15 to 30 dollars. The problem here was that she had a thio solution applied to hair that had been previously relaxed with an alkali relaxer. No amount of money will make that work out. The Japanese straightener can work great on African American hair as long as the hair is virgin hair.

  • I have been researching all the straightening procedures for months now, and I'm @ the point where I'm ready to get it done. The first thing you do is get a consultation. Ask to see their portfolio. If there are no hair types like yours in the portfolio, then that is NOT a good sign. Also, ask to see what the treatment is that they will be putting in your hair. If they won't let you, then walk away.

  • @dirtylittlegrunge I agree with your comment on "Why WWE went PG" video. I agreed with cha man in fact I hate tthe PG era too.

  • well uh idk what your stylist did but my friend got the japanese thing and her hair is amazing. the only reason your hair needs to be relaxed is because it grows a 1/2 inch every month....and the straight perm doesnt like, go into your follicles and straighten your roots when they come out

  • She totally did it wrong because one.. most cost more than 190..and two it takss a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time and three IT"S GREAT!! (if u get it done properly)

  • I used to chemically straighten my hair and it really dried my hair out too. Going natural is the in thing now. I have naturally wavy thick hair and i just cut it short recently and just use a diffuser and some products to give me some shiny curls. I know this is an old video i just wanted to comment lol.

  • oh yeah and if your hair is processed a lot it does not help . it works better for hair that is more natural(?) im not sure if that the word .

  • i think her starightening your hair is where she went wrong cause i heard that youre not suppose to apply heat to it until two weeks after

  • why did you not speak up..........why did you let her do that ?

  • if u werent sitting there for at least six hours then she didnt do it right. theremal reconstructing is a very long process

  • if u ever do get it again. get the liscio or yuko. its expensive but it works without damaging. and dont listen to your stylist. its her job to make u spend money. and if u werent sitting there for at least 6 hours ty

  • Japanese Hair Straightening works wonders. It really does. Im mixed so my hair is hard to maintain. it sounds like the stylist probably didnt know what she was doing or didnt have enough experience with that type of straightening system. Its about a 6 hour process, so if you werent in that chair for about six hours then something definitely wasnt right.

  • Japanese relaxer has Ammonium thioglycolate in it. If you have had any of the traditional relaxers it is incompatible with sodium hydroxide, guanidine, calcium or lithium. I had some one who claimed they knew what they were doing wreck my hair like this too. The heat is part of the process but it is suppose to be one time deal. Japanese relaxer is what we use to call a care free curl, without the rollers the hair will be strait but dry. It is suppose to last 6 mos.

  • I think it really depends on your hair texture. What your hair stylist should have done is test on part of your hair first and see if your hair can take it.

I'm black and my hair is not kinky so much but curly and I don't like it....lol

I get Japanese straight perm like every 6months~1year and I never had problem with it at all..........so I really think that they need to really know what they are doing. I'm sorry you had really bad experience.....

  • thanks for the advice; i figured that it wouldn't work on black hair

  • OH I FEEL BAD 4 U THAT U HAD TO PAY THAT MUCH SITTIN IN A CHAIR FOR HOURS AND RUINNG YOUR HAIT=( THATS Y U HAV TO DO RESEARCH. AND DONT TRUST UR STYLIUST

  • your not supposed to get any type of chemical straightening done if you already had relaxers used in your hair. thats what fried your hair and didnt let the japanese straightening work,.

  • Thats because real Japanese hair straiting gost way more than what you paid i mean the real deal works but they're are a lot of people that scam you on it but nevertheless there is always someone scaming someone in the business world

  • Did you get the Yuko or Liscio?

  • Yea never do that again lol. That japanese thing is a relaxer ...Im sure they ran the product all the way through your hair. Running the product through your hair over lapped the previous relaxer...which caused your hair to break because it was over processed. The Japanese straightening thing can be done but has to be done by someone who understands your hair and is a absolute pro.

  • i was told japanese straightening is like putting a blow-torch to your hair. i'd never do it. my friend got it down, it did straighten her hair but her hair feels so dry and crisp.

  • she didnt do REAL Japanese straghtening, it cost me $600 and i have thin hair she did the fake knock off stuff, my hair is still straight after two years and i just get my new growth touched up every 6 months for $100 it truely is fabulous and extremely easy to take care of

  • idk how some people are even allowed to work at salons. I feel ur pain...

  • I thought you couldn't use japanese straighetning for african american hair :x

  • @Saann00

It can be done if the person doing it is trained in how to treat hair with different moisture levels. Its common sense. It'd be stupid to say it couldn't be done, since hair IS hair. Protein treatments would be advised for relaxed hair wanting the thermal reconditioning. Since relaxed hair really isn't "straight" her anyway. It's just wavy, poofy.

  • ur hair fell out cuz it was treated before... it works better on untreated virgin hair;; and if u did put sum chemical in it then obviously its gunna fry it

  • Isnt the same as the brazilan relaxer?

  • @mayli158 brazilian one is only semi permanent after 8 weeks to 4 months your hair goes bak to the way it was b4

the japanese one is permanent so the only hair thet will be curly is the new growth

  • @dedebug1

Thanks for the info....I was thinking about doing the brazilian relaxer but I am transitional, if its a word...lol would it look odd? I want to find someting that will just come off after a while...just being able to manage until I see what my real hair look like. Its been almost 9 months without a relaxer...

  • @mayli158

Is an American the same as a British person?

    No.

It's pretty obvious that the Japanese Thermal Reconditioning (Straightening, etc.) is different than the Brazilian Keratin Smoothing Treatment.

  • it normally costs anywhere between 600 and 1000 to get it done.. she didnt know what she was doing.

  • She did it wrong. A lot of people do it wrong.

  • Not to be mean but how in the hell can the Japanese tell black folks about hair care for their hair? Oprah told her story about how she visited a French, fru-fru, she-she salon and they burned her hair out. The only other group that seems to have some experience with black hair is the Dominicans. Many of them have a texture similar to black hair. Anyway, it is good that your hair has been restored. It it very pretty and looks healthy.

  • @justme65196 thank you! i agree

  • she did not do it the right way the chemical should never dry and the flat iron is a step it rebonds the bonds in your hair it is a very very good system to chemically straighten hair but she did not do it right im a trained tech in jap str. i would do it again if i were you but do some deep conditioning and Please go to a different salon!

  • Hey just an FYI... you went to a crappy stylist. JHS/TR takes about 5hrs and costs about $100 per hour. You WILL get curly/nappy/whateve new growth because your hair doesn't stop growing. That liar did a half-assed job. Your hair should have been super soft and silky unless it was extremely damaged. Sorry chica. Maybe you don't want to spend $500 2x per year, but if the price works for you, try a reputable salon with a proven track record. Good luck!

  • From what I understand, you have to have completely natural hair before you can do it. If your hair already has chemical relaxers it will not work.

  • nice vid ur sexy as hell by the way

  • so sorry this happened to you

    i too have become a $300 victom

of a greedy lack luster cosmotologist

    who misrepresented the product

he did no strand or skin test

how did you stop the shedding

  • its because yo Black. (: j.k

    Thats werid?

but yeah i'm a boy and i may get a japanese straighten thingy...

and they put relaxers in your hair first..i think idk i'm kinda new thats why.. (:

  • I read about it in th new Sister n Sister Magazine. it read that it last 6 months and it take the longest for the treatment. Also the its the most expensive costing between 600 to 1000 dallors for the treatment.

  • Obviously that stylist didn't know what she was doing. Maybe you should try Japanese straightening again with someone knowledgeable.

  • Oh wow :( I think it's because you had relaxed hair that it didn't work for you.. My stylist said that when you have relaxed hair, it keeps the chemicals from the japanese straightener from doing what it's supposed to do... I'm pretty sure that's why it didn't work for you... Huge bummer because I have seen a lot of really beautiful hair from the straightening. She also doesn't sound like she really knew what she was doing lol.

  • It looks great on Japanese hair is the thing, that's who it was created for. When I lived in Japan, you can so tell when someone got this treatment if there hair was wavy or bushy before. It looks AWESOME, so shiny and healthy! Beyond words.

But I'm black and know how to work a relaxer. I went to Japanese hair salon when my hair was natural...huge mistake. But I was always curious about it and different hair types.

  • I feel so bad about you having such an awful experience. The truth is that people don't know how to apply the Japanese Thermal Reconditioning Treatment to African hair. It really is wonderful...your new stylist mustn't have known what she was doing. But I don't think you should give up on it. Just find someone who can show your pictures of successful styles with Thermal Reconditioning. It's well worth it. And it lasts me 8 months :)

  • YOur Stylist does not know what she is doing I never seen a video where the hair was crispy.

  • Japanese straightening isn't for AFRICAN AMERICAN HAIR! Do research, its designed for caucasion hair only. Please black women stay away from these chemicals and go natural.

  • @Tiphany757 I agree but I do get the Brazilian keratin and I LOVE IT the Japanese straightening IDk much about that

  • @Tiphany757, I agree with you. It is not for black hair. I agree go natural, but as a black women sometimes you want some variety. Also, it is much easier to manage your hair when it is relaxed.

You see, as black women we were never taught how to maintain our hair. As a child, your sister, mother or someone else braided your hair, and most time they ill treated your hair by pulling on it hard etc. You know, they treated it like a curse or something, not with love and care.

  • I know this is late...but honestly. If it was something that costly..I would have went to the asians and let them do it. I get my hair done at black salons SOMETIMES but you gotta watch them cause they will continue to do your hair even if they dont know what the hell they are doing. If it is a Japanese technique then go to a salon with asians becuase they probobly know it better than anyone else. It wasnt supposed to make your hair hard...

  • I think that lady just didnt know what she was doing...ive seen people get that Japanese hair straightening before and it didnt look like anything you described.

  • gurl u shouldve just gotten a relaxer!! u wouldve been much better off, it sure as hell doesnt cost alot of money and im sure u wouldnt have lost ur hair...

  • Relaxers suck and they damage your hair. It is not natural to put harsh chemicals on your head/hair...thats why people have a hard time trying to grow their hair in the first place..

  • Wow ur gorgeous

  • Yeah I've heard that it isn't good for African American hair types. But if you paid less than $500 it was not a good salon. The stylist had no idea what she was doing.

  • well, I've been asking around and I heard the Japanese hair straightening is bad for and African-American OR maybe your hair stylist just sucked ass. ;P

  • @Miam226 Well it ain't and not all African-American have fizzy hair, shouldn't brand people like that

  • @chaotickitty222 I didn't say anything about African-Americans having frizzy hair at all. And thank for telling me :)

  • You obviously picked the wrong stylist to do it, it seems she doesn't know what she's doing, I did it ( still do every 7 months) also a couple of my friends, your hair ends up straight untill the new hair grows.

  • @namoussa12 It stays straight even if you wash it?

  • @namoussa12 r u black or white. just asking to see if maybe it works on your hair and it didn't work on hers

  • She is right on some points you need to understand that japanese or caucasians who uses that treatment might have wavy or curly hair but not kinky hair like us. So when their roots grow if it is wavy it is manageable but kinky it does not make a difference than with a relaxer your roots will be your natural hair so two textures to manage.

For the straightness of the hair I cannot really say though.

  • You have a complete lack of knowledge about the chemicals and the processes used to "perm" hair. There are two types of "permanents". The thioglycoate permanent, which breaks apart the molecular bonds and then rearranges them in a new form is the one used for the Japanese straightening. It is also used to curl peoples hair. It was originally used with heated curling rods back in the 1920's and 30's as the heat makes it much more effective. I(t is part of the perming process.

  • Thiglycoate straighteners are not very effective without the heat. The change in the molecular structure of the hair is not complete and the hair bounces back to its original shape after a few washings. When the heat is applied while the chemical bonds of the hair have been broken and weakened by the thio it makes the rearrangement complete, no amount of washing will change the hair back. It is not recommended for african hair as even with the heat and chemicals there is 2 much 2 restructure

  • Lye, or alkali perms, sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide etc. change the structure of the hair by making the hair shaft swell and completely breaking all of the molecular bonds of the hair if left on long enough. When it is neutralized the bonds are not reformed as they are in a thio perm, the neutralization merely stops the alkali before the hair becomes a gummy mess. Hair that has had an alkali perm is very fragile and should not be permed again or ironed.

  • no new growth? new growth is your hair growing. So, unless you can stop your hair from growing, you're always gonna have new growth. That stylist was an idiot.

  • @vdtkca My thoughts exactly, I def would have ran the other way!

  • damn that sucks!

  • I feel bad why you got into that. It's a joke---it's extremely expensive. But I thinks she also applied it wrong. Because it shouldn't mess it up. However, after applying it you have to hot iron or blowdry ALL the time. So I never understood it. I actually recommend you stick with your natural hair. You're a pretty girl and natural hair is best. I don't know why you'd apply something you know is harmful to your body. Just stay away from chemicals, period.

  • Comment removed

  • so u didn't wash the hair stuff out??

  • no u dont. No water should touch your hair for 5 days, u can wash ur hair after a week after treatment.

  • oh when i had mine they said u can wash after 2dayss..

    lol

thats maybe cuz i was in a korean salon if that makes sence..

  • I am really learning a lot from your vids. Thankyou for posting your opinions of this one and the brazilian treatment. I'm still thinking about it. I may try it when the summer hits. Right now I have braids. Just trying to give my natural hair a break from combing and messing with it all the time. :)

  • thankssss:) Keep watching. Have lots more vids coming up soon.

  • Hi. after listening to you and comparing on a document i read about the japanse straightening there is indeed a difference. The real japanse straightening requires natural hair (if its relaxed then you cannot get this japansese str) The price (in france) is around 600 $ and not in the hundreds. So if they did your hair knowing its relaxed/texlaxed they are definatley theives!

well a part from that your hair looks good on this video

  • i heard iy wasnt for african american hair anyway....( i got his info from hair make over videos)

  • it is expensive but its worth every penny!! my mum is from panama so i'm mixed race with dry frizzy hair but after this treatment I was delighted, was amazing!!

  • My mom is from panama too.. but this treatment just didnt agree with my hair

  • That is a shame. I was really pleased with the results. getting it done again next week.

  • @amabelscorner

You do know this works best on VIRGIN hair right?

It'll OVER process relaxed hair and it won't do crap but straighten it, and dry it out even more.

  • @amabelscorner ha! my mom is too, but I've never heard of this treatment. I will look into it more. Thanks for your vid.

  • where did you go to get yours done because i believe the japanese straightener is altered a little bit for people of different races

  • My hair is just frizzy so it worked out for me. and it cost me $260 but it was worth my money,I had my hair done by a professional.and it took me 2 months before finding a good place to go since there are a lot of places in NYC. The people who did your hair probably did your hair with a relaxer, and didn't tell you about it. I had a relaxer 3 years ago and my hair was so hard, I regret doing the relaxer.

  • I had a japanese straightening, and it worked pretty well for me. But I got it at a Japanese place, and they used keratin(10 min) to break my hair bonds, after this they washed it and ironed my hair and a second solution (3min)which was the perm. She used an iron after the first solution to make a model of what she wanted the final look to be. after the second solution they just blow dried it with no combs and it came out very straight.

  • No do not do any brazilian hair straightener or japanese straighter. Use protein treatment every 6 weeks to repair the damage and if you must straighten your hair once a week and stick to what works for you.

  • Go to the Dominicans. The blowout uses NO chemicals and you get better results. It is heat intensive, but they really condition your hair well and it lasts and it is a heck of a lot cheaper than $180. You can see several examples on Youtube, even on natural hair. I spent $30 for a wash, set, deep condition, and blowout. So you get 6 blowouts for the price of one. You may need to do it monthly, but girls who have Dominican blowouts have beautiful HEALTHY hair. WITHOUT chemicals.

  • Hi,

I am a professional stylist offering the excellent BRAZILIAN KERATIN TREATMENT in LONDON! Many happy clients!

£95 FOR ALL LENGTHS/THICKNESS! (limited time offer so book now!)

    Fulham London location

    Contact for appointment 07904 015 008

  • Then i went to a japanses salon in LA called Taka and got it done. A woman from central america who liscenced in it, did my hair. And it turned out beautifully. She does the perms like 3-4 times a week, at different sallons. The perm is expensive, and if you want it done right, go to someone with a good and expierence track record. And for black hair i reccomend getting the Braziillian Keratin treatment 3 days later. If you cant afford the Yuko straitining, get the Keratin.

  • hey ive had the japanese straitning done twice. I am black with extremely course hair, and a super sensative scalp. The first time i got it done, i went to a black woman from London who was new to the product she did it herself & her hair was beautiful. I got my hair done, it turned out preaty but my scalp burned. If you get it done correctly your scalp should not burn.

  • I live in Japan, where the product came from, and it really leave your hair sleek, straight, but, of course new grow will come, so that part you will have to straight again like any other regular relaxer. But what I didn't like about Japanese relaxers, is that, if you hair is very kinky the salon will you an stronger mixture, in order to make your hair really straight and that will make your hair quite damage with time

  • idk why you believed her about the "no new growth" thing either.

  • seriouslty she was not as good as the ones in china town.

That's an example of what could happen.Maybe the person you went to wasn't trained in how to do it.You have to be specially trained to do it on another person.

In a couple of days i'm going to a new salon, that i think is good because their really good at what they do and stuff.

And it always costs me 150 i never go above that

  • I'll tell you my personal experience.

When i first got it two years ago,i got it done in new york city and i swear they really made my hair super amazing! super straight and it lasted almost 10 months then the roots started growing.

So after that i got a new hair cut and got it down some place else the lady really messed up my hair.

  • After you get it done, You CANNOT get the hair wet for 3 days after. You will break the hair. Wait two weeks before you put the hair into a ponytail, curl, style, hairspray etc. If you dont this may also break the hair. After the two weeks you can do ANYTHING. Beach, Swim, Curl, hairspray, colour etc. Just make sure you use special shampoo's and deep condition.

  • You had a botched job. In order for the JHS to work, you cant have relaxed your hair for over 2 months prior to getting JHS. There is only 2 processes used. Yuko process or the Liscio process. They wash your hair, Section it off in tiny parts, Apply the solution, wrap the hair in clingwrap then put u under a dryer/lamps. Then its triple wash with proteins, blowdry and flatiron. Then Neutralizer and proteins then rinse again. Then its Cut if u need and a light blowdry and the hair is stick str8

  • I have a question for you. My mom is a former hairstylist and she straightens my hair for me once a month. I flat iron my hair every time i was it because the water make its frizz again obviously. Do you not get any new growth for three months? Why do you only straighten your hair after a treatment? doesnt it frizz after being washed each time?

  • no it stays straight forever.....it never frizzes....until it grows out that is...

  • Your stylist wasn't using the correct Chemicals then.

A friend of mine got the thermal reconditioning and her hair came out absolutely perfect and silky. And she was african american as well. I plan on getting it soon, and I'm half black. :3

You however, were simply scammed. Sorry.

  • I agree.

  • yeah, idk, sounds like that woman didn't really know what she was doing

japanese straightening still means you have to go back to straighten the new hair...

that's pretty messed up that she'd lie to you AND seriously screw up your hair

  • Not every black person has the same, like not every person of the same race/whatever has the same hair. There are even siblings who do not have the same hair.

Anyway, I'm so sorry for what happened to the video poster. That stylist did lie to you. Any person ( even people not of color) who chemically treated their hair is not a good candidate for this system of straitening.

  • That thing is only for White or Asian hair! Yous should never do it otherwise.

  • thats not true its for anyone

  • look so is white hair some times some people have thin some people have thick. the hairstylist should have known that her hair was to thin they should tell you that regardless of race. im black and nothing like that happen to my hair cause its thick

yes i am part asian but that does matter cause i know plenty of full black people with thick hair.

  • KuroFox15, your comment has to be one of the dumbest I've read.

Black women without applying chemicals to their hair or any other type of treatment have thicker hair than anyone. If your hair is thin, it's either because it's naturally thin or you overprocess it.

Grow a brain then leave a comment.

  • uhm, Wrong? African hair breaks/burns easy. Go kill yourself.

  • You're the one who's wrong that you're disputing actual experience because you want to be right. Wanting something doesn't make it so.

I'm not even certain you understood what I wrote. There should really be a youtube for people who can only understand monosyllabic words. You're a fucktard.

  • African hair sucks LOLOLOLOL

  • no u

  • I'm so sorry what happened to you. The stylist was sooooo wrong to have pushed the Japanese hair straightening (profits first). He/she should have known better that it's not for black hair.

  • its for anyone

  • & that comment was for the person who mention BKT's! those things are horrible for your health!

  • Wow.. thanks for the vid

  • you look and sound like mya harrison

  • omg. im soo sorry :[
