  • Would 6 Buenos Aires tetras get along with a silver dollar?

  • @BDawgNGP Yes, I actually have had 5 Buenos Aires tetras with with the same silver dollars seen in the video for about 4 months now. Well, almost the same silver dollars, one died and there are two new ones, 6 in total, and now in a 90 gallon tank.

  • @Suraky how big is this fish tank? I have a 80cm fish tank with 120litres, can live 3 bigs silver dollars there?.

  • @MHAKP In this video they are in a 55 gallon tank, but for a couple years before I had a few (including 2 from this video) in a 35 gallon tank. The two older fish are now 7 years old. In August 2011 when I moved one didn't survive, I put them into a 90 gallon tank and added two new dollars of a different variety.

I think 120 litres is small, they need space, they can be very nervous, fast and jumpy, but they seem to be hardy fish, like mine they might do ok if you have a canister filter.

  • My Silver Dollars just love Tetra Variety Wafers! When they see me get the pack out from the cupboard under the tank they start racing around the tank. As the wafers go into the tank they get one each and spin it round, eating from the edge, until they get to the middle, and it's gone! Nice video BTW.

  • Hi nice tank suraky

  • @kidsnapeb13

Alege or however u spell it wafers

U can get them at any fish shop

  • umm..whats the name of the food they are eating? the silver dollars?

  • whats that catfish name?

  • Yes, I am very hungry.

  • they will eat anything that moves i the tank they have tiny tiny razor sharp teeth

  • Your tank has too many fish in. But it's manageable. I have LOADS of Angelfish fry and they're all too small to go to the shop currently.

  • r they columbian tetras in there too? :)

  • @matshroom Yes

  • HAHA, they carry them like dogs! I just bought some today I can wait to see how they act

  • What is that orange colored fish called

  • dollars look liek piranhas can they eat a baby mouse since they are vegetarian ?

  • Why are your SD's fins so torn up?

  • @kashyyyk - The fins were so torn up because they are very skittish, nervous fish. They will freak out when stressed. They had been living in a smaller 36 gallon tank for a couple years, the tank was upgraded just before the movie was shot.

Today their fins look quite a bit better, mostly regrown. The red colours are coming back too since I've been feeding them krill along with their veggie disks.

  • @Suraky Is that a featherfin synodotis??

  • hi i have a question i just bought a baby sd and he is eating goldfish i now for shere its not a pirahna so could somebody tell me if sd are carnivores thanks.

  • My silver dollars" fins are chewed up, too. Except of my five, two of are missing almost all their fins. Very frustrating. It all started with some barbs, then when they were gone it just seemed to continue. I have clean tank, but I think they are rough on each other at night. IDK

  • I've never seen a SD w/a yellow fin.

Also, what kind of plant is that in the middle? They don't eat it?

  • Their fins turned yellow, loosing the bright red you'd expect on a red hook silver dollar. No idea why.

The plant is a Java Fern, one of the only plants they won't eat. It grows very easily, buds off lots of new plants.

They also won't eat Water Onion ... just nibble at it if they're very hungry.

  • @Suraky Beautiful fish. You sure they don't eat java ferns? I have four 8 year old silver dollars and I had put java ferns in their tank and they ate them all in a day lol now I just keep plastic plants and feed them some lettuce and algae wafers among flakes and other treats.

  • @Mastersharpener s.d ???

  • my silver dollar s fins are pretty messed up just like yerz:( damn convicts

  • yer pleco luks nice n i dnt know ther ar coloured silver$...

  • lmfao i have 2 of em they eat anything lol i love em

  • i just got one of these how do you get it to eat

  • mabey its not hungry genius...

  • MAYBE you should learn to spell

  • @mrhepden Maybe you shouldn't have fish.

  • well thanks for your help....

  • You're welcome

  • hey had a quick question about the syndontis catfish in this video, i have two that look like yours and they have the same white spots, on their body do u kno what it is?

  • Sorry, I don't know, It's less severe now on my catfish, all three are still fine, and a little bit bigger a year or so later.

  • Thankyou for the reply i believe its stretch marks from growing but not sure, havnt been able to get a direct answer from anyone

  • at what age does the silver dollar mature?

  • your silver dollars fins looked messed up!

  • they always fight..if you keep the water clean they should be ok

  • Nah, ive got 6 silver dollars, with nice fins, your meant to have compatible tank mates to stop fin munching.

  • those tetras with the orange tails really shouldn't be in with silver dollars. there terrible fin nippers and silver dollars are a gental peacful fish.

  • They are Columbian Tetras. I have heard that they can be aggressive, but they only ever chase themselves. I've never seen them nip at the silver dollars or other fish.

  • how big r ur silver dollars

  • Today, 11 months later, they are all doing fine. The red hooks are at least 2.5 years old and are about 6 or 7 inches long. The other two silver dollars are at least 4 years old and are 4 or 5 inches long.

  • Where did you get the Red hook silver dollars from?

  • A pet store

  • =| what a f*cking tank, love it!!!

  • do your silver dollars bother with the ferns in the tank.. i know they eat plants and was considering getting some and my tank is lightly planted right now.. thanks..

  • The only plants I've found that the silver dollars won't eat are these Java Ferns, and Water Onions which are in the tank today. ... although the water onions do get small nibbles on them sometimes.

  • loving those catfish. very nice looking tank, nice mix of fish :)

  • Just posted a Silver Dollar video. Your's is better.

  • hey is it normal for silver dollar fish to act weird when they're newly bought?

    stressed of the new environment?

    help mee

  • Silver dollars are very nervous, they dont like the tank being cleaned, they get all torn up if you try to move them between tanks, if you turn a light on in the middle of the night they go nuts and jump hitting the tank lid

  • They are synodontis eupterus. :)

  • nice setup

  • wat food are they eating

  • I have 3 silver dollars in a 120cm tank and i fed them cucumber today and they loved it :) very strong fish and really nice to look at. Nice tank!

  • Wow! Are those Yellow Hook silver dollars?

    Where did you get them?

  • No answer, I'll take that as a negative.

    Thanks

  • psssst, did you read the video description that I posted with the video 11 months ago?

  • I see. Got it, thanks.

  • what else do you feed the pacus? do you feed them lettuce or spinanch?

also nice raindow fish! what type is it it looks like bose man (if thats how you spell it)

  • Thanks but they are just silver dollars, true Pacu look much different and grow to be much larger, much faster than these guys grow.

I feed them lots of different vegetables and also cuttings from overgrown plants from a bigger tank.

The rainbow fish are a male and female Bleher's Rainbow. When they are performing, their colours become very bright, their foreheads turn bright orange (male) or yellow (female)

  • wow, ur the firs person that ive seen to have red and blue columbians...a fave of mine, how old are the ones u have, the ones i have live an average of 10 years.also ,are those catfish featherfin catfish or other?

    thank you

  • I've had the columbians for around 1.5 years, they were not full size when i got them, but seem to be now. I've hear they can be agressive, but they haven't bothered anyone on this tank.

    Catfish are synodontis eupterus

  • that looks bigger than a 55..ihave a 55 but i only have rocks on da bottom

  • how big is that tank

  • 55 Gallon ... it's a bit crowded, but it's a recent upgrade from a 36 gallon tank.

  • Yes, they are a good 6" long. I'm not sure the type. I thought one was called an 'Euryptus' but I cant find a reference to that name online. It has the dense smaller spots. The other two were called leopard catfish at the fish store, similar with bigger sparse dots.

They all look like they could be synodontis. They were all about 0.5" long when I got them a couple years ago.

  • what kind of catfish are those there pretty big are they one of the synodontis catfish

  • veggie disks ... its in the description of the video
