I bow with respect to the Master Uli Jon Roth .. Amazing player & his heart & soul are one with the guitar .. Seeing him in Toronto Jan 29th Live .. .. keep on Rocking SwB... cheers
I saw him live here in Albania last year, I was in the front row and I was just standing there and listening and admiring him. He improvized for like half an hour, because the other guitarist was having some problems, he just blew everybody's mind.
Uli looks like such a nice bloke & great artist or foresight or what!!! way ahead of his time & still out there in the cosmos,,,his guitar sound, pauses & vibrato is bloody AMAZING!!!
Did he play like that in the Scorpions? I can't imagine the Scorpions being that good but I've never listened to them. But man that was awesome. Now I understand how he influenced Malsmsteen.
@Carlosmr1984 Thank you for replying I will definitely have to check out the Scorpions catalog when Uli was with them. I can't believe how the guitar magazines that I bought never referred to this guy - ever!
@Vercingetorix When it comes to musicians, never trust the media. Trust your intuition bro. It will lead you to great musicians, like Uli, and Michael Schenker (Who was also in Scorpions, Rudolf's little brother). Scorpions is a great band, way more than "Wind of Change" if you ask me. Have an awesome musical journey !
@Carlosmr1984 The In Trance album was an incredible, spectacular LP! The cover was pretty hot too. Uli has been one of my guitar heroes for over 40 years!
Yngwies vibrato before Yngwie, Beckers arpeggios before Becker, neoclassical playing before neoclassical, SRVs feeling that SRV would envy, true shredder before shredding.A Master. Everyone who plays modern electric guitar should repsect this ultra-underrated guitarist and father of beautiful guitar playing. Respect.
I'm still buying vinyl! I'm getting The Brand New Michael Schenker album Temple Of Rock on vinyl and CD from Amazon. I have BOTH Black Country Communion releases on vinyl and CD, Chickenfoot, you name it. Vinyl RULES! My Lonesome Crow is on RED VINYL! I SWEAR TO GOD. You send me your email, and I will take a picture and send it to you. I have EVERY Scorpions with Uli on vinyl, as well as a lot of the Matthias years.
@chitownbluesy Wow, I never saw a copy in red vinyl. Lonesome Crow was "import" only, back in the day, and was IMPOSSIBLE to find on vinyl! (There was no Internet back then!!!). Mine's on black vinyl. I paid $18.00 for it in a used record shop in El Paso, Christ, about 20 years ago, too. You just couldn't get this stuff back then and had to search the world for it. The covers are worn like crazy but the vinyl is still MINT!
Yes. I saw this tour also at Brick By Brick in San Diego opening for Michael Schenker and Francis played the whole U.S. Tour. I got autographed copies of Fly To The Rainbow Vinyl with Michael also signing that one(Remember he wrote about 1/2 the songs WITH Uli) and In Trance with just Uli and Francis signing it. Vinyl also. Uli is THE BEST with the tremolo! Better than Hendrix in my opinion. I know I'm going to hear about that one. haha All Good. I just LOVE any good music. Heart, Soul, GOOD!
@chitownbluesy Fly To The Rainbow on vinyl. That's got to sound incredible. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. There was a lot more live studio tracking back then. On a high quality record you could just about figure out where each member was standing when they recorded it if you listen to it on a decent record player.
@occams99 Yeah, I have the RCA French, double-album set (vinyl) of In Trance/Fly to the Rainbow from the 70s. Oh my God, they are so incredible! The CDs, as far as I know or heard, were never cleaned up (not that would have made an improvement) & the vinyl of these just has this three-dimensional sound that is unreal, penetrating, & deep. It just can't be described, the music just takes you out of this world. I bought the set in Dallas 20 years ago for $20.00. The best investment of my life.

@emanhacker Hey now. Lady Gaga is good man, a little weird but has a shitload of talent and writes and sings her own shit, how many pop stars can do that. I know they are 2 different types of music,"my taste's are very eclectic. I really started to get into Uli like ten years ago, but been a Scorps fan forever. I wore out 2 cassetes of Tokyo Tapes growing up,lol.
He plays this so effortless and it's a HARD solo. Wish he stayed in Scorps but Jabs is great as well. Peace
Scorpions "Tokyo Tapes" (1977?) was my introduction to Uli Roth. He was years ahead of anyone I can think of at that time...probably one of the 5 most influential players in the history of electric guitar, IMHO.
@Prestostark I got into the scrops back in the 70's as well so you're not alone. This includes the 74 release of "Fly to the Rainbow. one of fave's, for classis Scorps'.. So i am aicent too. LOL!
@DaveKaiju Hahahh! I know - I can't believe it was that long ago...Still love that rock, though. The solo on "All Night Long" starting at 1:22 or so (first song on Tokyo Tapes) never fails to put a smile on my face. One of the best ever.
Believe it or not we got to see Scorpions here in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in summer 2006. was nothing special unfortunately. at least they were here. and this tune rocks - thanks to the Testament cover of this tune, i discovered this great man.

@carpicneuf for me with jimi, richie,SRV,gary moore, michael schenker and eddie .Uli is the best oh ok yngwie malmsteen and john norum great too ok randy surely deserve to be mentioned
@peacecavus: Hammet tries to play the opening of Sails Of Charon and sucks at that! He doesn't dare try the whole song because he knows he can't even come close! He should have stayed taking guitar lessons from Joe Satriani for a few more years and then Maybe! James is THE guitarist in Metallica and long may he play!
lol two of my old guitars i cut off the bottom horn to have access to do harmonics like a violinist... i still have them but my guitars look like this. I had no idea about how cool his playing was. I had heard of him though.
@surferbrah84 Dude, that guitar has magical powers...a rare sky guitar...can't you see the magic amulet?!Oh man, insulting the "Sky" guitar....watch out for a sneaky gnarled rip wave coming soon...you're cursed now!! Ha ha ha
OMG should i watch his amazing right hand or his uncredible left hand or the epic faces he makes or his rare guitar or his cool clothes ?? fucking master !!
I always liked his playing, but i never liked his guitar!!!!!!

@peacecavus Tha Day That Never Comes Intro But It's Not For Kirk This Solo
avogado1995 1 year ago
@peacecavus: Hammet tries to play the opening of Sails Of Charon and sucks at that! He doesn't dare try the whole song because he knows he can't even come close! He should have stayed taking guitar lessons from Joe Satriani for a few more years and then Maybe! James is THE guitarist in Metallica and long may he play!

lol two of my old guitars i cut off the bottom horn to have access to do harmonics like a violinist... i still have them but my guitars look like this. I had no idea about how cool his playing was. I had heard of him though.

It may have been noticed before, but I think that's Francis Bücholz on bass. I thought he was still in prison (no, I'm joking). ;)
