it doesnt matter if the handler tells the dog to go the timer starts when the dog jumps the first fence
@DeaneRenata alot of people have dogs that dont wait because they are too excited, especially in competition it isnt because the dog doesnt know basic commands, if it didnt, it would be able to compete in what looks like a high level class
When the dog makes a mistake in agility, the owner should continue on and complete the rest of the course. The dog does not know he has made a mistake and usually the mistake is caused by the owner by not pointing clearly enough where he wants the dog to go. I saw several people in this video giving up and walking off the course when the dog made a mistake. This is foolish as it lowers your dog's motivation to obey your commands and your dog will not be as good or quick the next time.

I notice a pattern where all the other performers come in front of the camera and signal their dogs. The last guy (beginning at 7:08) goes out of sight of the camera behind the wooden ramp so it is hard to see what he is doing and in my point of view it looks like his dog starts before he even aware of it. I can't even see him signal if he does because he it out of sight and to me it looks like a flawed start because there is no proof if he actually signaled or not.
Unlike obedience competitions, in agility (at least under all rules I'm aware of) it doesn't matter if the handler has signaled or not; the course begins when the dog crosses the start line.

That is how it works. If the handler hasn't trained his/her dog to wait until signalled it's the trainers fault.

The last one to go -- his dog does not seem to know basic action commands. The dog started to go even before he signaled.
