Válka rozdělí miálence a ona nevydrží. Katří patří do jiného světa.
I had to endure this through French class in high school. Although I'm sure I'd appreciate the film to a much higher degree now, but back then I found the pitch of their voices excruciating.
Andy Williams did a good version of the theme, and that's what led me to the film many years ago. Thanks whoever posted this, it reminded me to watch it again.
Lovely movie by an (at least here in Germany) underrated director, with a fantastic soundtrack by the wonderful Michel Legrand who was also a dedicated jazzman.
Thx a load for the clip & please feel free to check out my little jazz blog, if you like. For link see my profile.
One of the most beautiful films ever made--in photography, actors, story, music and lessons in living. The ending is heart breaking, and,yet very real. The significance of the umbrellas through out the story shows how most people seek safety when in doubt instead of allowing natural elements and chance to to follow its uncetain path. By seeking safety, they sometimes lose the things that they want most to gain and that has change the life they live.
one of the best opening credits i've ever seen. this is one video here that i watch and not just listen to. still havent seen the film because the dvd of it here has japanese subtitles. one day i will have to get hold of one with english subtitles.
Every time I hear this song I think about a girl I used to be in love with. I wonder what happend to her, if she is happy. Makes me think about the time I was Switzerland when I firt saw this film. Can't say I like the ending, but this is how love often ends.
Director Demy combined composer Legrand's romantic theme with the titles at the beginning of the movie, introducing the main theme and the Cherbourg Port weather, to foreshadow the story of the starcrossed lovers. Experiencing the movie, if so inclined, would make this effect more apparent.
I live in Cherbourg and the petrol kiosk doesn't exist anymore... there nothing there but stone... it's funny to check what has changed or not! nice music though
This film gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it (I'm 23), for it gives men a valuable lesson: Men, if you love your women, never hesitate to say so--in writing, if necessary. HRH Prince Charles had to learn that one the HARD way. 30 years is too long to wait for happiness, hough I loved Di, too.

Love it loads. And Michel Legrand's granddaughter (?) is the singer in Beach House, which makes a lot of sense.

this film was the inspiration for the 1968 short musical 'Les Bicyclettes de Belsize'. I have interviewed the films stars recently for Youtube.

Quite pretty, although it's spoiled slightly by the streams of rain coming down from the stand that the camera is obviously fixed to.
