Lovely movie by an (at least here in Germany) underrated director, with a fantastic soundtrack by the wonderful Michel Legrand who was also a dedicated jazzman.

Every time I hear this song I think about a girl I used to be in love with. I wonder what happend to her, if she is happy. Makes me think about the time I was Switzerland when I firt saw this film. Can't say I like the ending, but this is how love often ends.

Director Demy combined composer Legrand's romantic theme with the titles at the beginning of the movie, introducing the main theme and the Cherbourg Port weather, to foreshadow the story of the starcrossed lovers. Experiencing the movie, if so inclined, would make this effect more apparent.

This film gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it (I'm 23), for it gives men a valuable lesson: Men, if you love your women, never hesitate to say so--in writing, if necessary. HRH Prince Charles had to learn that one the HARD way. 30 years is too long to wait for happiness, hough I loved Di, too.
