This is one of the best songs that Lou Reed ever made; the first part, is so funky and made for strutting your stuff lol XD Love love love LOVE this song so much. Always have done too. Berlin is the best solo album Lou ever did.
This song still strikes me to my core. Reminds me oh so much, of my many days in the past on amphetamine-binges playing this song on my guitar over and over. this song speaks so many volumes about the kind of mind-set you have when you are knee-deep in Amphetamine insanity. Lou is God.
Lou Reed is not God. He is a great, talented and introspective musician who's work still rings true because he honestly explores and assesses various elements of the human condition. I never understand people who claim that all of Lou's songs have something to do with drug abuse or addiction. I've never abused drugs but Lou's songs have always spoken to me at the same level you describe. Lou would not have endured as he has if he simply picked at the scab of addictions as you assert.

This song is brooding nonsense, if you want a good song called 'Oh, Jim' look up the single by Gay Dad, the Britpop group. That track is probably the most perfect song ever written.
lemme tell ya dear, they speak to you all over again when you're a middle aged dope who can relate to the 'shooting up of pills' and the 'when you're speeding and lonelies'- i doubt even lou knew his music would be that transcendent and he was a classic megalomaniac
Oh my god!! It was my "getting ready" song too!! I dont go out clubbing anymore(too old and knackered to do it now XD), but when I used to, I used to play this; the first part really struts doesnt it? This is such a fantastic song. Happy memories!
i first heard this track as the soundtrack to the tv drama "operation julie" about 1981

i LOVE the moments at 1:16 and 2:11. those undulating electrical humming waves that are so perfect to walk down a dark city street to.
