theres something in the way he talks, not just what he says, but how he does it. suddenly even the smallest things morrissey says, that seem to be not important at all, happen to be everything i want to hear. i could listen to him forever.
not modest but true. his point is intended to be good, and it is. But it's strange how he is so shy but so non-modest. I think people expect people to be modest so when they hear someone, who is quite sophisticated and non social, they find him pretentious. Which is not true. What an interesting fellow.
It's been stated before many times in the comments for this post , but he could be describing me, in a world where the mundane are idolized mozz is a beacon of hope in the darkness
Maybe Morrissey appeals to those of us who understand life is no easy ride and a sense of pride at not letting life beat us. Laugh at Morrissey if you must, but he made it because he had the goal to make it..... All I wanted in life was to be famous... It takes guts to git up on that stage and sing about yourself!
He has such a pure soul actually. Most kids today probably want to identify their life with Lil Wayne or Katy Perry-but the things Morrissey speaks of are what most of us-at some point identify with. My own childhood/teen years was "adverse" as he says-but the things that seem small and uneventful often keep us surviving. I love this video.
I don't see it as arrogant. It's so much more profound than that. When he looks at the camera at 4:08 he does so knowingly. He's not ignorant of how he is perceived.
He seems to be the sort of arrogant guy that I can quite happily go on worshipping - but if I knew him in real life I would probably want to punch him
To understand Morrissey is to understand "loss". His words touch our sadness in a way that he would never trully recognize, since it would make Morrissey look back at the sadder moments of his life and ours. Every song he sings speaks of a dream unbidden, yet unspoken. How many of us know this....more than we'd like to say.
@mimoma99 Looking again at 4:08 and my heart speeded up, I started panting and sweating and something melty happened down south. No kidding! How sad! LOL
Morrissey is the legend he is because he's MORRISSEY. Who cares if he's socially acceptable or not. I' am and always remain a die hard Morrissey and Smiths fan. In these days of Z factor he remains a beacon of normality.
Don't get me wrong because I am a huge Smiths & Mozzer fan & have been for over 25 years
BUT . . .
Socially Mozzer boarders on autistic . . . He is awkward and shy and - well - often not very nice really let's face it . . . And he admits as much himself
Don't confuse his huge song writing talent and great voice with him being somehow socially cool
He would probably be the first to say he was not
Without his voice and lyrics / poetry there would not be all that much to commend him
@Silvergoldstarfish I was autistic as a child. I "grew out of it" and at 18 relate to everything he said. I don't you as much as people like you don't understand me. excuse me, I enjoy solitude, being able to let my mind run free, and let that be fuel for creativity. maybe he's perceived as shy and awkward because he knows he's a brutally honest person being pressured to fit into a society that believes ignorance is bliss. if Morrissey were any other way he wouldn't be Morrissey.
how can someone so miserable bring me so much joy...i feel so depressed when i go to school and the only way i can really describe it would be like before i walk through the door to my classroom, i put some sort of fake happy mask on....and i hate it....but its always nice to know theres someone out there suffering...i suppose hes got the guts to be himself around others....honest and sincere....i cant be that. im not brave enough.

I'm English and where I live everyone is deoressed including myself. I'm moving to Florida to become less depressed. Just look at Manchester back in the 80's...It's pretty much still like that. A grim, depressed shit hole. Nothing else

Morrissey was a depressed shut-in, if he wasn't arrogant he would probably end up like Ian Curtis. Having a high opinion of yourself is important sometimes.

@hydeph I didn't say that they weren't intelligent, I merely stated that unlike most 18 year olds I personally don't feel the need to intoxicate myself to the point where I cant walk.
I really dont understand how he can say his childhood is wiped away due to a buidling being demolished.. would he want to go back and live there with all the money he has now? no.. he feels great anger.. come on.. complete loss of childhood.. get a grip.. complete loss of childhood is maybe abuse or horrific displacement due to war.. not a building being knocked down.. thats self absorbed wank!! I have had a similar background like Moz. My old house is a parking lot, my grade school is long gone, and all of that sort of thing. I also spent (and still do) lots of time writing. If I'm not, I am reading, either a book or something online that I'm interested.
I didn't go alot either as a pre-teen once I doscovered writing. It's all I have ever wanted to do, and nothing more.
