I just found this video today and it was beautiful. I leave next week for my son's PIR. I haven't seen or talked to him for the last 7 weeks and watching this brought all my emotions to the surface. Thank you for posting this.
I will never forget pracitcing for drill in those halls. I was injured because of some knee problems and my chief used to let me go to drill practice just to watch my shipmates and support them from the sidelines. I got a bravo-zulu once from an officer who was doing the drill inspection for being lld and still coming out to support my shipmates. I was very proud of my division. Congratulations division 337 Sept. 25, 2009!!!

@amarilisbaby1 As I sit in front of my computer today, as a veteran I feel the same way about Great Lakes. Now that I look back 21 years later, you're right it brings back memories.
this is such an amazing video, i'm currently a recruit, can't wait until i go to boot camp i leave march 15, 2010! wow! can't wait to make my family proud!
Graduated in 1985 from Great Lakes and got to serve on the most decorated Battleship in history. best time of my life. MOMS, it hard but you gota let them go and learn how to be a responsible adults.
i may not always agree with today's military decisions but i will always admire anyone who makes a personal commitment to improve themselves, despite the overwhelming fear. there's a tiger deep inside you. you have stalked ur pray, it's well within ur sights, ur positioned perfectly. now, go get ur prize.
Great video! My son just left yesterday for recruit training in Great Lakes. Your sister's son reminds me a bit of my own and I admit the video brought some tears to my eyes.
These young men and women go through so much during training and it is difficult for the recruits and their families - especially now during the holidays.
God bless your sister's son Andrew and all those who serve. I am really looking forward to attending my own son's PIR ceremony in January!
im Brother graduated a few years ago and is now one of a million and them some that put their lives on the line for us and i could not ask for more I will be one of those people in 2 years GO Navy !
I was there in 74, I also remember marching in the snow. But then I'm from Northern Michigan. Great video brought back alot of memories. from a now Proud US Navy Veteran
lets see here I went to boot camp june 19, 2007. I left september 27. I was asmoed 5 times. divs: 265, 2341, 282, 302, 2341, and seps. it took them 3 months to figure out I had asthma, tedndonitis, chronic stress fractures, and a broken toe: thanks navy.
Our Daughter Fayleea will be graduating on Oct 2, 2009 Ship 09 Div 338. We are so very PROUD of her and all that she has accomplished! Thank you to everyone and the Sacrifice you made. We are greatfull. Proud Parents!

This a great pictoral video. I will get to see my son Matthew graduate this Friday, August 7,2009. Division 277. I'm so proud of him and can't wait to see him and his fellow recruits. Thanks for the video. Go Navy!!
god bless your son, my brother is going to graduate from great lakes in 3 weeks and i am SO proud of him. i plan on following in his footsteps nxt yr. they do a great job protecting our country.
OMG, tell your sister that she did a great job! I cried in this vid. I remember all that I went through and when you are there...it's something hard to go through but we all pull together. Hooooooooooooyah! Div 441!!!
HOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Divisions 152 and 155 Ship 09... Just graduated from there April 10th and now I'm still in Great Lakes on the other side lol GOD BLESS THE NAVY and please get me out of this ATT class lolll Send me to Pensacola already hooyaaaaaaaah
Went to Great Lakes Graduation on Feb.5, 2005 - To see our Grandson graduate. It was the most awesome, patriotic experience of my life. God Bless them and God Bless America.
Great video. The Drill Hall at Great Lakes still looks the same as it did when I went through in 1995. I was in Division 922 (State Flags), Graduated April 28, 1995.
i like this video i am a huge navy and army fan i have an uncle who is retired from the navy a cousin in the navy and a cousin in the army and he is in iraq and my grandpa was in the army and my 2nd cousin was in the army and i am so proud of all of them and i am thinking of going into the navy but i have a while to think and i am a girl so i dont know if i will i will be the only girl in family that has ever went into the military so it is a big dission
If I had a single penny for every Billy that walks around Gurnee Mills with their damn cover on INSIDE of the mall, I'd be a freaking millionaire. I see these civilians who fall all over the deck for these damn kids saying, "Thank you for defending our country and freedom!" and the messed up part is they find it cool to take credit for something they've not done. A uniform, an I.D. card and signing your name on the line does NOT make a sailor. Ooh Rah 97-037!
I graduated from Navy boot camp August 8, 1996. I was so glad that all of it was over. But I wouldn't exchange that experience I had for nothing in the world.
I went to one of these for my brother. It was really cool. You feel really patriotic after watching the graduation. I think I'm Joining the army, I don't know what there graduation is like.
Thanks for your willingness to serve. All the best to you and these others just finishing up or about to join. You are not overlooked by most American citizens...we appreciate you more than you know!
What's even funnier is that my brother's experience in Chicago was watching The Smashing Pumpkins last show and when he toured through with his band. What's going to be my experience...DROP AND GIVE ME 50 MAGGOT!
i live right by great lakes and every friday there are a million sailors at the mall...my boyfriend goes to boot camp in 36 days and i am so proud of him...of you all!
my boyfriend is there right now. it's his third week. I'm going crazy without him and he's only been able to send one letter! it suuuuuuuucks and I miss him so much ugh
I was there in 1992. It was a definite experience. Company 921. I still remember Chief Moore. I bet some of my friends are CC's there. Nice video. Good luck shipmate..
Bootcamp is meant to be stressful, but it's not like the real Navy. Tough it out, and it will make you a better person. Bravo zulu to all graduates! I look forward to serving with you all out in the fleet. -- YN1
Wow! Great memories! I was there in 99. Best experience of my life. I will always remember SKC Smith, MM1 DeLaCruz, and EN2 Davidson. After a while, I actually thought my name was maggot. Was an HM2 when I got out, I wouldn't trade my Navy experience for anything. To all joining up, Good Luck, to all who have served or are serving, fair winds, and following seas, shipmates.
i ship out to great lakes on september 5th, exactly 1 week before my 19th birthday. i cant wait to get out of this hell hole i call home and start a real life.
HOOYAH!! Man that brought back memories! Especially the song; reminds me of when we became sailors right after BATTLE STATIONS!! There was not one sailor who could hold back a tear at that moment.
Congrats!! I was from Sept. 2000-Feburary 2001. Being there in the winter was horrible. Great memories and great accomplishments. I did four years and got out. I miss the Navy life. But since I had a Heart Transplant I will be unable to get back in. Full speed ahead, go Navy!!!
The music and pics added to it made me cry.My son will start at boot camp at Great Lakes on Aug 28th.His decision for his life after graduating from high school(last month)made us proud but very emotional,he will be missed.Thank you for sharing your pics, looking forward to be at the same place when he will graduate.
My sister will be happy to know she is helping other moms who are going through what she is experiencing. Thanks to your son and your family for giving up so much for the rest of us! We are grateful for the fine young people who choose this career path. All the best to each of them!
I highly suggest you and your family constantly support him, positivly encourage him, and send him Lots of letters. I'm glad my family supported me while i was in boot camp. Navy boot camp is not hard though. Tell him to pay attention to detail, stay out of trouble, learn how to march, help out others when they need help, be good to others, and do as he is told by his RDCs ( Recruit Division Commanders ( Navy Drill Instructors )).
Tell him to never to give up and stay strong!!! Also tell him to take each day as it comes. Battle stations is not as hard as it used to be. It changed after I left boot camp. That was the hardest part of boot camp for me but, I had fun doing battle stations. I have been doing good in the Navy so far. I have been in for 1 year and 10 months now.
Wow! Amazing slide show!! I graduated great lakes bootcamp October of 2000(long time ago)and it brought back so many memories and believe it or not, I know exactly where most of the pictures where taken at!! Its been nearly a decade ago and I'm now a mother of 2 boys. Nothing would make me prouder than my son's one day telling me they want to join the Navy!!
i leave to boot camp sometime in July or August..so Ooh-RaH! YEAH I'm going to have a great time there just like my whole family has done already..this song is very inspireing and very excited after high school is over
I went through boot camp at Great Lakes from April 25, 1986 through June 27, 1986. I was in Company 141, 11th Division. My CC's were EMC Aguado & EM1 Frilles.
I went through bootcamp at Great Lakes from August 2007-November 2007, division 480 ship 14 USS Shiloh and my RDC's were PO Eves, PO Hannah, and PO Carr. LOL
RTC san diego 1988 our CCs mashed us with uor M1 rifles for like four hours in our berthing to this song just over and over and over and over and over our last day there
One of the guys I served with went through SD boot camp. He said his CCs mashed them and had You Gotta Fight for Your Right to Party by The Beastie Boys playing. But he said he had more fun in boot camp than he had in the fleet.
hey fine, but all of the branches compliment eachother, and you know what SEALs call the infantry, bullet sponges so next time you charge into a country, think about how the place will be blown to smithereens (important targets of course) by the navy, and guess how WWII was won? navy.
Cool video. I was in Division 284, as well, but in 2001. We were in Ship 12, which appears to have been removed when I look on Google Earth. There has been a lot of construction. What are those buildings shown at 1:02? Maybe my thinking is wrong, but it looks like the photo is taken from near the NEX with the chapel being just off camera to the right.
Haha I never went to the ceremony, got broke and when I was fixed, I passed battle stations and just rolled out like that. Div 268, 2004. EM3 USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63)
I forget where but there is a Guide on the internet that explains everything step by step which helped me a lot before entering. Bootcamp never gets "too hard" but the first real 3 weeks can be a a bit of a pain
lol!!!!hahaha!!!join the navy where youll never touch another m-16 in your career!hahaha not for mamas boys?isnt that what the navy is for?lmao! HAIL OH INFANTRY!!!
was there in 1968 brings back memorys

Was an HM2 when I got out, I wouldn't trade my Navy experience for anything. To all joining up, Good Luck, to all who have served or are serving, fair winds, and following seas, shipmates.

Tell him to pay attention to detail, stay out of trouble, learn how to march, help out others when they need help, be good to others, and do as he is told by his RDCs ( Recruit Division Commanders ( Navy Drill Instructors )).
hmpruneda 3 years ago
Tell him to never to give up and stay strong!!! Also tell him to take each day as it comes. Battle stations is not as hard as it used to be. It changed after I left boot camp. That was the hardest part of boot camp for me but, I had fun doing battle stations. I have been doing good in the Navy so far. I have been in for 1 year and 10 months now.

I wish him good luck!!!
