I love the fact that there are this many wonderful, wacky and talented people I share my country with. I would love to be there someday. Watched them since childhood. My mom taught me Darktown Strutters Ball because of the Mummers. I love you all..........
OMG can I watch this in person someday? One of the most awesome American events EVER. Adore each and every one who has ever had anything to do with all of it in Philly. You strut it!
I meant to say in my previous post (I need to proofread) that the new perfromances are trying to be something they originally weren't meant to be. We like to hear songs, not background music.
I couldn't agree more. I'm old school mummer, marched in 10+ parades and love the older style string bands like this. The new performances are trying to be something a lot of us string band fans have loved for ove the years. Ferko really captures the music - you recognize the tunes. Now it's virtually all background music. Terricfically difficult, but none-the-less background music for the show. Bring back the excellent string band music - Please!!!
Thought this may have been the best performance I've ever seen going down broad street....they should try pulling this one off in 2012.The string bands need to look at this performance and start doing some old school stuff that people would love......
I love this routine. Ive lived down in Fla for 3 yrs and have missed the parade terribly. Other than silly symfunny i like this show the best. Hope you go back to this theme in 2012. I was a member of Purul comic club for 17 years until they disbanded. I loved it then and love it now. God Bless Ferko!! The best band of all time.
Only in Philadelphia the Mummers day parade every New Years Day. Along with cheese steaks, hoagies and real soft pretzels. Outside of Philly nobody else knows about it. This makes my South Philly heart swell with pride.
One of the All Time Greatest performance's (in my opinion). Great costuming and show, but the music was outstanding. Such a strong show. This is the type of show we need to see march up Broad Street. The crowd really loved this show, and I believe that if Ferko or any band marched up the street in 2009 with a show like this, it would bring the house down. While Quaker City and Fralinger had good shows in 89, this is my First Place Band!!
Now that's a mummer! This Philly girl was there. ;)

Puts the Rose Parade to shame. A Great American New Years' Tradition. Philly has the formula.
