I'm not a fan of Clarence Thomas, that's for sure, but I have to say that it defies logic to see Senator Kennedy (for all the good work he did later in life) sitting on that committee, judging another man's conduct; have we all not forgotten the fact that Kennedy literally left a girl to drown in his car after he wrecked it during a drunk driving episode?? Seriously, he should have recused himself.

@DillonDee1 Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the worst, and those like her. Thomas has been consistent, and principled. This hearing was a sham. Your ignorance is noted, and dismissed. Good day, sir.
It seems ludicrous that people are debating and commenting on an event that happened 20 years ago. Justice Thomas was confirmed, so end of story. Whether or not his service will go down as distinguished is up to legal historians. Check back in 50 years if the country is still around. Given the nature of government, the power of corporations, and the general awareness and intellect of the electorate, I am doubtful it will persist.
Toni Morrison edited a very enlightening and interesting book on the hearings titled 'E-Racing Justice, En-Gendering Power' if anyone is interested in reading...
Clarence Thomas is one of the biggest scumbags to ever sit on the supreme court. A total corporate lackey on the side of the greedy and corrupt. He is also a filthy pervert. America is a less free and democratic country thanks to scum like Clarence Thomas.
@star50ify You are too stupid to insult, Justice Thomas I believe voted against eminent domain, private property rights, who were the judges who voted for it, oh yeah, the lib and the mushy moderates. America is less free because of progressive morons who want to tell everybody how to live, Obamacare ring a bell.
Truly one of the most outrageous episodes in recent memory of the Senate. Dems couldn't stand that a conservative was going to replace Thurgood Marshall, so they put a hit out on him, courtesy of Anita Hill, abetted by Kennedy and a supine Joe Biden. Disgusting.
Clarence Thomas is by far the best Supreme Court justice on the current court. He has consistently followed strict interpretation of the Constitution and never gives in to partisan bickering.
hatch is right. she hadnt PROVEN anything at that point!! they were mere allegations. the fact that biden would grant her request that her statement not be used is PREPOSTEROUS!
those pussies didn't want to be accused of being unfair to a black woman so they granted her wish. I STILL CANT BELIEVE IT!!!
Progressives like Biden and Kennedy have to lie and impose frauds on the public. If they told the truth, they'd never be elected. They must lie to get in the game and be successful.
At 9:57 Senator Hatch seems to be defending the non-classified nature of already released material, thus completely vindicating the modern-day discussion of WikiLeaks material by government employees. But of course everyone hates secrecy until it fits their agenda.
@Chslosers I think trying to ridicule the sitting Vice President of the United States and then, inaccurately calling him "second on command" is pretty weak. The VP is not second in command of anything (assuming that upstart1776 was referring to military matters). The National Security Act of 1947 clearly demonstrates that the Secretary of Defense and not the VP is the second link in the chain of command when it comes to national defense matters.
What I appreciate most about Judge Thomas is that you can tell he wasn't seeking this appointment or thought it would give him status. He accepted it because 1) He was asked by the President and 2) His desire was to serve America. We just don't see that anymore.
@jrwigand - So, what you're saying is that ALL Justices appointed to the court since Thomas have all pursued the role for personal gain or status rather than to serve the nation? Hogwash...
@broadjumper1 No, that's not what I was saying but I can understand why you would think that because of how I phrased it. What I was trying to get across is that many (but certainly not most or all) people in political office have pursued it for their own gain. I think everyone can agree with that. Still, I apologize for not being clear.
This was such a joke and the entire Senate should be embarrassed. George H. W. Bush said it best, sadly, "It's all politics." Two words and a letter to explain this: Roe v. Wade.
This was hilarious.

I think the media only likes black people if they're democrats. Look at Thomas, look at Cain. It's pretty ridiculous.
