The council are not using the Green Belt laws because of racism, but because the police and local business want it gone.
If the travellers were no trouble, they wouldn't be willing to spend millions to evict them.

We should have sympathy with the gypsies rather than say (as it seems many are saying) well we had to put up with it, so you should too. We should admire their pluck & determination to stand up for their community. Unfortunately very few people will do as they do in modern Britain, the authorities have conditioned us to submit to them. The fight has long since gone out of the British people sadly.

I've got a bit of admiration for these people. I nkow others frown upon their alleged tax evasion but secretly I'd love to be with them. These people are NOT travellers they are NOT Romany, they are NOT Diddakoi, they are NOT gypsies. They are tax dodgers and benefit scroungers from Ireland who own large houses in Rathkeale, County Limerick. The residents are under investigation for keeping slaves, exploiting vulnerable homeless and mentally ill people.
Google the 'Rathkeale Travellers' and learn the truth.
The Advocacy Project should be looking at human rights abuses in their own country before pointing the finger at England.

Whatever your concerns about the TAX system, I don't think sending the bulldozers in will do any good. These people have already been given planning permission to be there and have had it revoked without any concern for where their community will go. I can't imagine you would accept it if it happened to you.

They DO NOT have planning permission. Please check the facts before commenting. They are being evicted because Dale Farm is an illegal encampment on Greenbelt land, constructed WITHOUT planning permission.

Over half of it already has planning permission - previously a licensed scrap yard - it's not as cut and dried as you make out.
MP John Baron has a house built on greenbelt land (which, of course, was given planning permission).
There is still no provision for where these people are expected to go. Pushing them into another county will not do either them or your precious tax bill any good.

There is NO PLANNING PERMISSION FOR DWELLINGS ANYWHERE ON THAT SITE. Regardless of its previous use it is designated greenbelt.
Their vehicles and caravans should be confiscated to pay for the electric and water amenities they have stolen and the hundreds of thousands of pounds of benefits they have defrauded. Send in the tax inspectors and benefit investigators and they would be gone overnight of their own accord.
Then they should be sent back to their homes in Rathkeale, County Limerick, Eire.

Dale Farm was started in the 1970s when the then Labour Party run Basildon District Council gave planning permission to 40 families. Following the eviction of other sites the site contains about 100 families. Dale Farm is owned by a clan of travellers but has been refused planning permission by the local council. Basildon's Development Control Committee recommended that up to £5m be spent on paying private contractors to bulldoze part of the site and returning it to greenbelt. Good use of tax?

Tolerance of what? Tax avoidance, benefit fraud, non payment of council tax, shoplifting so much local shops have to fill their shelves with empty boxes, flytipping, uninsured and untaxed vehicles, underage drivers of said vehicles, violence and intimidation towards local residents, using vulnerable people as unpaid slaves, planning law violation..?
Which of that should we be tolerant towards?

Sorry, the issue here is planning permission, which is why people are complaining. The other issues would not allow the site to be bulldozed. Maybe the council will conceed that they need 13000 houses from the greenbelt somewhere, just not there and not those (gypsy) families ? I appreciate you have other issues with this race of people, but you will have to deal with those in another way. I will, however, make this my last post on the subject.

This race of people? The Irish? I have no problems with the Irish, I am part Irish myself. These people are NOT a seperate race, nor are they an 'ethnic minority'. They are tax dodgers and benefit scroungers from Rathkeale in Eire, who don't like the Euro or the new tax laws instituted by the Irish Government. So they upped sticks and came to England to carry on their tax dodging and benefit scrounging.

That's exactly what I was thinking - some 350,000 people could easily resist the cops, bailifs and army (they are too busy anyway). Most of the anti-traveller stuff here is exactly the same type of propoganda we've all heard before about any other ethnic minority throughout history. Just a PR exercise (Public Relations, incidentally, was a phrase coined precisely because the word "propoganda" had such bad connotations).

if they want to live permantly somwhere then buy a house and pay your taxes like everyone else ; houses have lost value in that area because of the trouble there:its not cos they gypsys when the land was brought he knew it was green belt. they cause problems for the locals. travellers supposed to travel not live somwhere permananly;built council homes for the third generation not private homes that no one can afford; and foreigners and gypsys can go on the bottom of the list not the top

They all lived in homes in ireland and they still own them but due to a change in tax law they all got out quick. Many were given Council homes in the north of england but now rent them out to others.
They bought land cheap, knowing it was green belt and them built more homes on it.
Its nothing to do with them being Travellers or Gypsys its all to do with breaking planning laws. If they want to build homes then buy the land that is set aside for developement but that aint so cheap is it.

shocking....unfortunately this is not only happening in this country. It stings right into my heart esp when injustice is done in such a bad unethical way.
