  • I'm planning on taking this train later this year in March. I'm looking forward to riding. Thanks for your post.

  • The week of Halloween 2011 I rode train 22 into Chicago from Dallas,Tx then i got on the Capital Limited from Chicago to Washington, D.C.. I think its Train 93, thats the fun one from D.C. to Newport News, Va.

  • I rode the tx eagle from fort worth tx to dearborn michigan yrs back when my kids were still young they barely remember, what an amazing way to travel especially if u like scenic views the eagle w/ the viewing car was spactacular, we had a sleeper cabin that slept 6 throughly enjoyed the trip, highly recommended in fact im planning a short trip to chi town for kicks just to get my amtrak fix lol ..nice vid thanx for sharing.

  • So why do you take these trips?

  • How much for a cup of coffee in the dining car?

  • @NordikFilm it's included in your meal , you have the option of coffee, orange juice, milk or tea i believe. you can buy coffee in the lounge car for like 2 or 3 bucks

  • @HWY287Productions 3 $ for a cup of coffee in the dining car is a normal price. About the same price on swedish railways. German and french dining cars charge more than 4 $ which is pricey. I usually bring my own meals and beverages on the train.

  • I have rode most of Amtrak's long distance trains, You get to appreciate and learn what makes these towns tick. From the agriculture around the town to the industries which built factories by the tracks. But best of all is seeing our beautiful countryside from the amber waves of grain to the purple mountain majesties.

  • What is the average speed of this train ? Is this a train mostly used by tourists for recreational purpose or is it a serious competitor to buses and airplanes ?

  • @NordikFilm 79mph is the top speed. This train is used by everyone. There is a big demand for this train especially between Dallas and Austin or Dallas to chicago. Takes 23 hours to get from Dallas to chicago.

  • @HWY287Productions I rode from Fort Worth to Austin last year and enjoyed it very much. Definitely beats driving!

  • @NordikFilm I rode Texas eagle 21 from Fort Worth home to San Antonio yesterday. It took about 7 1/2 hours which is a couple of more than it takes to drive but the round trip cost me about as much a 1 way tank of gas in my car. Its a little more expensive than the bus but you get to walk around and stuff and theirs so much more leg room in the seats.

  • @NordikFilm Rode Amtrak from El Paso to San Antonio then to Chicago. Then to East Lansing. Made for a fun 4 day weekend. I posted a video.

  • @NordikFilm

Hi, an online map tool shows the distance on road between Dallas to Chicago, let's assume the rail distance is not much different. With a travel time of 23 hrs the average speed is 67km/h, or about 40mph. So no, not at all a serious competitor to aeroplanes in terms of travel time.

  • I saw the cargo cars going coming from Houston

  • Last time I rode the Texas Eagle was in 1999, and the train was late going both ways, Part of which is U.P's fault. But the trip back to St. Louis was the worst. Drug dealers got taken off the train, and a teenage girl tried to beat the train at a grade crossing, but she didn't make it! People shouid NEVER pull around crossing gates or try to beat a train at a grade crossing. These long-distace trains are the heaviest trains in the Amrak system. And they can take up to over a mile to stop!

  • @Streetcar1743 did the girl get killed and what did they say on amtrak to the passengers of what happened?

  • Last time I rode the Texas Eagle, we derailed just outside of Texarkana at about 2am. A tree fell in front of the train. The stewardess told me to push and she will steer.

  • @burchified Hey..I live in Texarkana and was wondering when yall derailed what happened, was it a minor or major thing..don;t remember hearing about that

  • Good video, sent link to Texas_Eagle Yahoo group

  • Thanks for the video, I would love to ride all of the Amtrak routes sometime!
