Thanks this, it will help for future events given some practice - if they do occur - hopefully not but also helps with writing this part in my story about self defense in this situation. Thanks
you keep reffering to rape, yes its possible but cant u say "assault"? lol u just sound like a weirdo saying " well if u want to rape, first pull her hair and pull up her skirt or whatever" like hes had rape training? loooool
Good techniques , and training , but I would be focusing more on escape , than 'taking on' the agressor too much . There is usually more than one person in situations like this .I did think also that HPK 's leg sweeps and locks would be more 'suitable' given there is prolonged contact along with the standard groin ,eye, and throat strikes that may inhibit the agressors further movement . But all in all , I thought it a very realistic training scenario. Nothing like being an arm chair critic LOL
is there a name for the arm lock technique? when someone strong has your arm like that ... you're done. They own you. You may have to sacrifice the arm, which then has you at a massive (dislocated shoulder) disadvantage. I'm really interested in more ways to counter this besides random flailing.
@StickyIky After teaching several self defense classes I realized that several women's first reaction may be to shut down and cover up when they are faced with violence instead of fighting back and make noise. I start off by teaching them to shout "NO" or "STOP" so they have "something" to say instead of nothing. I'm in total agreement that they should make as much noise as possible.
I would reccomend trying to do a more realistic situation in where you actually try to do damage to get free instead of pretending that those kicks would have really done damage (of course excluding a groin kick by using a cup). Also I noticed the girl in the black t-shirt didn't seem to have good kicks or defense unlike the other girl, she used an arm twist at some point and her kicks would have been more effective in a real situation.
Not bad, but the technique shouldn't end once they're out of the hold. It should end after they have separated, and scanned the area for other attackers.
@1t1o1m1m1i1e Please explain to me what a real situation is. She is a beginner and getting better with each class and I really don't think she does bad here. She's going to be better off than someone her age with no training wouldn't you agree? The point is she will fight back and has experienced a little of what it might be like. While we can't completely duplicate a real situation with real fear and consequences this is close as I'm willing to get in training.
I agree, any training is better than none... I could tell from the responses who had more training and who was the beginner, EVERYONE has to START SOME WHERE. This can be used to show what consistent training will do. Thanks for the Videos Hapkidojosh, and keep up the good fight.
In some of those situations a backward head butt would have worked. Maybe I just have a mean streak...but it is one of my first moves if I get threatened from behind like that (havent been jumped a lot..mostly by my brothers growing up),
The guy on the right has one of the sloppiest bows I've ever seen. Shows very little respect. Also many of the people in this video need the best defense - a better diet and a biggest loser program.
The "live" speed training looked very impressive, its good for martial artists to now that the techniques done in slow time are more of "guidelines", but when it comes to live speed, things are going to look alot less clean and polished.
Hapkido and Aikido have a common ancestor of Daito Ryu Aiki Ju Jitsu and their names mean the same thing. Hapkido is Korean while Aikido is Japanese. The differences lie in technique application and variety of techniques. Generally Aikido does not contain a variety of striking but mostly jointlocking and throws. Hapkido encompasses striking, kicking, throws, jointlocks, weapons etc. I have never studied Aikido so I don't know much more than that.
On Saturdays I teach ground fighting and ACTT (Asailant Control Tactics and Techniques). Those classes are less formal than my regular Hapkido classes. I haven't gotten rid of the dobak yet. Thanks for the comment. Do you have any new vids coming out soon?
I have a few thoughts for new vids but have just been too busy lately to put it all together just yet , thanks for asking. I will get one out soon I'm sure
I would say the blonde student had some more agressive defense. She really seemed to go right to hand rakes to the face/eyes. Also very good in rough housing them Josh it makes it more real for the students if confronted by a real attacker on the streets. Good video lesson brother!
Yep Harmoni is a brown belt now. Lacy just got her yellow belt recently but she's getting there. I was impressed with her yelling. Not too many 16 year olds are capable of that. Thanks for the comment.
I am not trying to promote anythign but only give a great tip...The Sharp Shooter self defense keychain is designed for these kind of rear attacks.....tried pasting a link but wouldnt let me...youtube has it..there is a video showing a rear attack on woman in parking lot..she armed with sharp shooter
Very informative video. This is an effective and useful technique, especially when it's planned from the perspective of following natural responses from the victim. Hapkido is fantastic.
Additionally, ladies don't forget this fact: if you get grabbed and have your keys in your free hand, use them! They can be used for raking and jabbing, and they can cause a TON of pain. Go for the eyes and other sensitive parts.
Just my 2 cents. The more options the greater chance of escape :) 5/5
Thanks for your comment! We could have definately added in more dynamics of weapons, purses, keys, shoes, low light, etc. All good stuff to think about.
Hey I liek your ideas...pretty much all they could do aside from other areas to strijke/ PP's etc.............also aside from the great advice you gave they might want to arm themselves with Master Morans Sharp Shooter defense keychain.....
i like your teaching style. i'm hearing that you believe its all theoretical and that you give plenty of room for plenty of possibilities. i like it.

If he really wants and insists he can hold the girl in black in that position whole day. However it seems hard to defeat the girl in white.

Nice technique. I find if your posture is good - back straight and all that - you can maximize your force without resorting to muscle power.
