Why don't we just dig a Panama style Canal between the U.S. and Mexico? Make it 50 miles wide and put up guard posts all along it. We could build a few bridges connecting the land solely for commerce reasons and guard them heavily. This would keep the drug smugglers from building tunnels under the border and would create jobs for those who would dig the canal and bridges.
