you can insert clipping paths from photoshop that are named for indesign to select...so that really makes the photoshop comment inaccurate if the image was prepared for indesign in photoshop

thats easy too,simply use the Quick Selection tool and drag it over the person, trying not to delete the city, quite simple

Excellent tutorial, and yes you can remove the b.g. from a basic graphic in 5 seconds. I've done it.

We recently switched from a pc to a Mac for our newspaper production and needed a quick way to remove white backgrounds from grocery products to place over colored backgrounds. This saves us production time and expense. No need to handle in photoshop first and import to the page.

well lets say you dont have a picture with a white background, coz im trying to do 1 for my bro but i just cant get the cut out just right, iv cut him out but i still have bits of the background in it, and when using the lasoo tool to try and get it just right it makes the bit im trying to cut out even bigger, any help?????

If you have a complex photo and you don't need to wrap text around a shape then I would use Photoshop. Depending on the photo you might be able to use the background eraser tool. If that doesn't get the desired result I would use a layer mask and do it manually. This way at least you can fix a spot at any time if you make a mistake.

The vid is 10 min because it's a tutorial going slowly through all steps. If he skipped explaining and all that and just did it it wouldn't take more than 5-10 sec. (+ he had to put the picture in, which doesn't count towards what he referred to as "removing the background". :] )

This tutorial saved me last night. I used it a bunch of times to insert images into a magazine layout for my graphic design class. The only thing I had to do extra was use Photoshop to erase the backgrounds of some of the pictures that didn't have a white background.

It would be quicker and more precise to make a selection in Photoshop and create a clipping path before placement on the page. As this was a simple image I would still use Photoshop to create clipping paths because a complicated image would be too much for InDesign.

The actual removal of the picture background (clipping path) is 1 sec as it's an auto feature in InDesign. I figured I might as well show some other InDesign features that will help people using the program instead of posting a 1 sec video.

If you only have Indesign this is the way to go...but if you have PS then there's better solutions to this. I'm not hating though cause I'm currently trying to get to grips with InDesign and this helped me alot, except for the part I can do in Photoshop hehe

I'm glad you like liked it and that you use InDesign. This tut is mainly trying to show people what InDesign can do and how nice it is that you can wrap text around your clipping path. I work at a magazine and being able to move a shaped picture around and having the text wrap around the complex shape is very nice. This is mainly for people that are InDesign users already.

The mask sometimes dosen't work in output with once it's in InDesign and you create your PDF... a White square appears on print while it's invisible at screen...
