  • how come you don't run buffing pads on air? it gives more torque and control. I'd also recommend spray painting with a gun. yes, takes time to clean it, but results are supreme ;)

  • @seasonedtoker The point of the series is to show others that you can get great results with commonly found tools. Most of these videos are 2-3 years old, btw. I've been using spray guns on and off for about 7-8 years. As far as buffing goes, I'd rather use a buffing arbor, but I don't have one yet.

  • how did you not cover the gibson and les paul logo an the head stock?

  • @54DUNLOP I'm pretty sure I mentioned this, but I just masked it off briefly and shot around it. Blended in perfectly.

  • thats really freaking shiny, its like chrome!

  • Great video, I'll definitely have to check out some more!

  • cool ! thanks for the tips.I'm redoing a 1995 fender strat I picked up at pawn shop for 50.bucks wanted a project guitar. I already have 12 others needed another one like a hole the head.I've been playing for 30yrs.and can't stop myself!! LOL! stay cool keep jamin!!

  • I know the feeling. Good luck in your project!

  • DAY-UM!!!

  • damn...i just repaint my Firebrand SG and looking at your guitar, I wish mine didn't look like a blue orange! but hey it's my first paint job with a HVLP gun...it's shiny though!!

  • wetsand, wetsand, wetsand. it'll be fine. :)

  • @DeanMLFlame firebrand, n-i-c-e!!!

  • okay never mind no sooner do i hit "post comment" did you answer what i asked, im retarded =p

  • Not at all, man; it's all good. I'm SO not a Gibson purist, so I didn't really bother to learn how they do the finishing or what does or doesn't get painted (regarding the painted pickup cavities). In the later videos, you'll see how non traditional it becomes.

  • stupid question so please have mercy in your reply =p

i see in the pick up cavitys that there is black paint, i know u repainted it, or at least i think u did (should have watched all the vids) but encase u didn't, i thought only the fake Gibsons had black paint in the cavitys.

as i said its a dumb question/remark but is this a repro?i have a 1995 Gibson Les Paul studio, its really dinged up and id like to give the polishing a try on it and maybe revive some of its former beauty =)

  • YOU ROCK !!!!!!!

ps love your les paul :)

  • looks badass dude...

  • You made a lovely job of that polishing!

  • thanks!

  • so after i finish the clear coat and the paint on the guitar how long do i let it sit? and when its all done and dry would it be safe to keep it in a case at room temp?

  • That all depends; what kind of paint are you using? If you're using nitrocellulose, I'd let it sit AT LEAST 4 weeks before sanding/buffing it. If you've used automotive urethanes, you're pretty much good to go within 24 hours. If you've used rattle cans, don't let it sit in the case for the curing time; you'll get case lining embedded in the clear. You don't want that! :)

  • yeah im using the nitrocellulose. Thanks alot man, it really helps and great videos by the way!

  • No problem, reach out anytime! I'm happy to help, and am glad that you're enjoying the videos. Just do yourself a favor; no matter how good it looks, let it sit the 4 weeks before you start the sanding...Fight all urges to finish it any sooner. It's really hard, but worth it.

  • Thanks alot man! I will sure hold off those urges to do so lol And im a proud subscriber!

  • Excellent advice! And also, glad to see somebody knows the wonderfull products that Mequiar's makes.

Another is 3-M's Finess-it II Great product!

  • how much =D

  • I haven't even plugged it in yet! lol There's a ton of stripped studios on ebay right now; get one and go at it, man!

  • you mentioned you were gonna do this in the first video, so im just asking, did you pretty much abandon adding binding to the les paul?

  • Yeah. After researching it, I decided to go another route. Stay tuned, as I'll be adding a short update today or tomorrow.

  • thats cool, yeah Im subscribed so youtube will let mee know when that update comes

I like what you're doing ehre man, dont give up on guitars, just add on to them.

    cool cool

  • sweet ass looking guitar man

  • So if my guitar is a bit scratched, should I do this to make it 'not scratched'?

p.s your car looks weird!! =D Honda?

  • yep!

yeah, it's an element. it's an odd little thing, but i like it.

  • So once everything is done, are you going to keep it or sell it?

  • I expect to keep it.

  • Nice, looks great btw.

  • your doing great with this project. What happened to this guitar?? how did you find it like this.

good luck with installing the pickups and technical stuff. :)

  • thanks! not really sure what happened to it; it was an abandoned project that i found on ebay for cheap.

  • the head stock break is unoticable

  • thanks!

  • hey i was wondering, will swirl remover get the fine scratches out of my strat?

  • most likely. i'd almost recommend going at it with the fine cut cleaner first, though.

  • Hey Sully, great build dude! Did you sand in between paint coats?

Have you got any advice for a noob on refinishing a guitar to a perfect finish like yours?

    Mike

  • Thanks! I don't remember if I sanded the paint coats; I'm pretty sure that I didn't. You don't need a ton of color on it anyway, just enough to have a nice, even tone. Best place I can recommend for refin info is reranch website. Google "reranch" because I can't post a link in these comments. There's a lot of good info on there.

  • Hey ma...you're great!!!!!!!I love Gibson les paul studio and i love the Job you're doing !!!!!!:D
