  • Love the video...thanks to you I have made one for myself, and plan to make a few more, just for shitsandgigs. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • @Wasupidat001 Great! I think they're really useful bits of 'furniture' - I use them more as saw horses than for sitting on during the winter...

  • that was beautiful Mike...!!!!!!

  • @fidel1320 Thanks! :-)

  • do the legs have to be splayed or can they be at right angles to the top?

  • @STREETRAT211 You could do them straight, but it'd be quite hard to cut them out where they meet the seat. Doing them splayed means the saw cuts meet, and you can lift out a wedge of wood.

  • Man, Grate idea, But every time i hear the engine of a chainsaw, i think somebody is being murdered

  • @netadelplaneta Ha ha! Do you know, every time I smell 2-stroke fumes from a passing moped I think I'm back in the woods! :-)

  • Cool idea. Like the creativity!

  • @Leecanada30 Thanks, though I didn't invent the idea myself, I learned it from David Rossney who is a chainsaw and forestry instructor.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I will be making a couple soon.

  • @Hollrobb Great, hope it goes well for you. It took me a few to get it right, so don't use your best wood on the first go if you have several logs.

  • @mikepepler ,I will keep that in mind when ever it stops raining long enough for me to do anything. The great thing about making a mistake on this project it can always go in the fireplace/woodstove. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

  • Interesting video. I have just bought a chainsaw so now I just need some logs to cut!

  • I got hold of a large lump of cherry that had been down at my nans for some time i followed your vid and made a nice stool for in the house cheers!:)

  • @xboxer118 Excellent! Glad it was useful! :-)

  • Good video, think i'll have a go at making a stool myself after watching that

  • lol funny, when you showed the first log before it was cut, it was already a stool. I would have stopped right there hahaha. But if you want design in it, what you did was pretty cool!

  • @wheelori814 True, it could have been used a stool already! But it would have been heavy... To be honest though, these stools get used more upside-down as a saw bench then for sitting on, though we've sold a few as stools to people.

  • thank you for sharing and thank you for passing along David Rossneys knowledge. i'm going to make one at my cabin this saturday, check out my chair building video and cabin vids if your interested

  • carpinus betulus = Hornbeam : ) ps nice stool.

  • I shall try some hornbeam perhaps this year, as I'll be felling one soon that may be big enough.

  • Cool man!

I've been doing exactly the same thing a while ago.

  • Cheers! :-) It's good fun, isn't it? I'm making some out of seasoned Ash this year, will be interesting to see if it is more resistant to splitting than Sweet Chestnut, though it probably won't be as durable for outdoor use.

  • @mikepepler

    Yes it is! : )

Let me know if there's some difference with Ash.

I was using seasoned 'carpinus betulus', (don't know the name in english) and not even a little crack or split. With one I was using teakoil, ended up pretty sweet!

    /Nic.

  • wow great job! and well done! you met the cuts perfectly like you said you should :D excellent!

  • Great idea!

  • All credit must go to David Rossney, my chainsaw instructor , who gave me the idea.
