  • Chris Solinsky.....

  • Лучший атлет времен и народов Gordon Pirie.

  • He definitely had the greatest impact on running of all runners. More so then Bekele, Viren etc all those guys.

  • poor Chris Chattaway GBR, tripped after being caught up and boxed in on the final bend. finishing just outside of the medals..

  • The best long distance runner who ever lived. Period.

  • Emil Zatopek the legend. thanks for all.

  • Currently it's impossible to win 5000,10000 and the marathon at the same olympics

  • I agree - Zatopek managed it. Legend. He run no marathons and won. :-) No 5k or 10k runner would consider it - why not - because they aren't good enough. ;-)

  • @Mitrabcn Yes but he managed it!. And he had never run a competetive marathon before

  • @Mitrabcn

Yea it is, just look at Lasse Viren in the 1980 olympics,

  • @Yr thinking of 76 :)

  • The Greatest of them All.

Phelps wins 8 golds beating Spitz. Wonderful!! Swimming 1-way. er no.

Who will win 5k, 10k and Marathon (1st ever attempt) in 1 Olympics. No-one. Ever. Across all nations. Viren, Yifter, El Gerroui, Gebreselaaise, Bekele. The all time greats can never match what he did in 8 days.

  • you cant compare then and now. the fact of the matter is he was the best in the world at his time. look at the times women set in 1952 and compare that with his time. of course the level of competitiveness in sports grows over time, but that doesnt diminish what he achieved. thats like comparing Pele with today's football players.

  • The time thing - Ok Tyson Gay and Asafa are better than Harodl Abrahmas and Jesse Owen then. Rubbish arguement and you know it Yifter.

Zatopek in his prime v Viren v Yifter v Bekele would have won more medals and respect. The g8 Mj won 400 and 200 - had he won 800m he would have matched Zatopek's achievement

  • I understand. Nix that timespoint I made.

  • Viren had marathon race the next day after 5000k in Montreal. Zatopek had as I remember two days after 5000k to rest before marathon. If the olympics organize the program in the latter way it is possible to win all three races.

  • Zataopek introduced Interval training.

So Viren would have run versus and destroyed the marathon filed inculding a WR holder. In his 1st attempt. That 's a bold statement from a great Atheltic nation.

Fact is Viren was doped to the eyeballs in 76 so was the crook who finished 2nd in LA (his protege)

  • Phelps won 8 medals because there are so many events in swimming, which I think is ridiculous. If running events were organized like swimming events, we'd have the 100 meter backward run, the 200 meter hop, the 400 meter skip, the 400 meter medley.

  • @Dave88011 What twaddle! As a competitive swimmer and competitive runner i can say that each swimming event is necessary. The different strokes are very different from each other. They cater to very different people. Because of people like michael phelps, who can do almost every stroke on the international stage, people believe that the strokes are pointless. Though i am not discrediting Emil Zatopek, what he did was amazing. He deserves to be known as the king of distance running.

  • @rc2869 "no one can never match" oh dear. Anyway, Phelps is a truly outstanding athlete, but there's no sense in comparing swimming to distance running, or anything else.

  • @Minkymoo222 - When Phelps wins an OpenWater title to go with 800m and 1500m or anyone else then he will be as good. And not before :-)

  • @rc2869 Ok Viren 4 golds: 5k and 10k in Munich1972 and montreal 76¨

  • @raulevich Zatopek wins. 3 Endurance events. All Gold Medals. '....It is at the border of pain and suffering that the men are seperated from the boys...'

  • The very very best...

    ever...

  • Look at Chataway falling. He steps completely over the railing, then steps on it.

  • The guy's an all time legend. No drugs, no cheating, no sophisticated training methods, just sheer brute force of will aligned to incredible talent. He would beat the Africans if he was alive in the same era. 3 gold medals in distant events in same Olympic Games - Never Ever will that be repeated. Especially by one who has never run a marathon before

  • jajaja mmm well thats hard to say the Ethiopians are really good I say that gebreselassie would beat him :)

  • zatopek is a badass I remember watching this clip when I was a kid.... here I am watching it again

  • wow wow wow one of the best forever

  • I never knew he had to come around from the outside to win.

    The greatest Olympic runner ever.

    B

  • "Satupekka" kuluu ainakin harjoitusmenetelmiensä puolesta kestävyysjuoksun "Hall og Fameen".

And try this:50x400m or more...30min/10km-it is not so easy thing:-)))2,5xcooper/4000m.

  • Zatopek and Mimoun, one of the most beautiful rivalries and friendships on T&F... in '56 Mimoun finally managed to beat Zatopek in the Olympic Marathon!

  • legend and fantastic, awesome video1111

  • What a great video. He may be all but forgotten now, but he was truly amongst the all time greats in the history of T&F. And a brave man in life too, who stood up against the Soviets in the Prague Spring, which cost him his honors and position.

  • Amazing!

What a deep relationship with his brother-like Alain Mimoun.

  • assolutamente da leggenda

  • wow

  • Fan..tas...Tic!!!!
