I love this song. Our jazz band tried playing it but we never got anywhere near where it was good enough to make people dance in their seats like this.
This is an incredible song. You can't help but just groove in your seat to it. Prefer Herbie's version, but he's the original, so that's not really a fair comparison. It's rare that a cover is better than the original.
I love it when people say they've played this. lol. You haven't played this. You've attempted it. Ain't no Maynard Ferguson, just like the Blue Devils ain't got no Scott Dean. This song is too fat and sexy.
i dont see anything special here... its like what i play in my jazz band, and the trumpet player is only one octaveup... its not so amazing... lets not overreact to this peice, coz there a lot better than this version...
@ktrum492 exactly. Some of my best improvised solos were played without high notes.. And I'm pretty decent at high range myself (nothing compared to this guy though lol).
Would like to hear your band's version. Feel free to post a video response and let people comment on just how good it is. I'd be REALLY impressed if all of your buddies were grooving like this.
The lower trombone parts to this song are SO much fun to play!!

Dig that badassed low brass/bass sound. This alto player says: Support your local LB section, because they'll make the difference.

How high a song goes has nothing to do with how good a trumpet chart goes. It's all about how musical the song is, and this piece is VERY musical.
