  • "have you all read the book " ? and they say , YEAH . It's like when a dictator said: Do you love me my people ? and the people go : YEAH , otherwise they will be dead .

  • sidney = great..

  • Sidney Poitier is a great man

  • YOU SYMBOLIZE HOPE

  • Thanks for posting Tommy!

  • The thing I will never understand is why some ethnic groups (it's not just african-americans I'm south-asian and have experienced the same problems), make fun of other members of their race for being well spoken. I refused to talk in a certain way at school and my peers accused me of trying to be a white girl. The sad thing is this was just six years ago. That's racism against your own kind. I didn't know there was some kind of a rule book that said only white people can be smart or well-spoken.

  • @LoonyInSpace There's this culture in ethnic communities that promotes, to children, the idea that they must act a certain way to show that they are proud to be black or brown or whatever skin colour. If we want our kids to get anywhere in life then we need to work on stopping this nonsensical behaviour.

  • @LoonyInSpace Interesting comment about speech patterns. You say the perception is that only white people can be smart and well-spoken but this misses the point, in that standards generally have fallen. Seems to me that this has little to do with colour, race, or class, but is entirely fashion-driven and a silly attempt to reduce standards to the lowest level. This pride in appearing "common" is reverse snobbery of the worst kind. Good for you for resisting this sad decline. Keep it up.

  • My two Favorite people.

  • If his own children think the same things about him as all these people do then I'll believe it. Otherwise it's just all a bunch of hot air.

  • I've got to read both books, his autobiography, and "Measure of a man".

  • @NkrumahTure I have read both, and they're definitely worth it.Poitier is amazing.

  • I'm a 52-year old woman & have read "Measure Of A Man"; truly a spirit-lifter.

    Gifted man & a treasure.

    Love you, Sidney!

  • thank you soo much for posting! truly uplifiting.

  • excuse me for the double post. thaught that something went wrong so I posted a similar reactiion again

  • when are all those obese hysteric women in oprahs audience stop behaving like 5 year olds that have just been told that they can have a free year supply of candy. and this time they don't even seem that crazy compared to other stuff I've seen, which is pretty odd since poitier is really a legend. Guess that in america people get more excited when some tv-cook joins the show

  • I wonder when all these obese hysteric women in oprahs audience are gonna stop behaving like 5 year olds that have just been told they can have a year supply of candy for free. It's getting really annoying, just as the fact that oprah introduces every guest on her show by saying that he/she is one of the greatest alive.I mean how many times has she told that already? I'm sure she is a nice person with a good hart for others, but she doesn't have to behave like a phoney. only in america

  • This would be my dream dinner. Just to see Sidney...so great! When did this first air? I read this book in one day!

  • what was oprah like ????
