Aw, man thanks , this is a new tune to me, I never got to hear their singles. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are personal heroes of mine. Yes, it does totally sound like Drew Zingg on lead , that Hard BeBop Blues style of his that is cool. He is one underrated Bad Mother F***** of a guitar player.
@yadodd1 In reality this is pretty, pretty close to being a Steely Dan album altogether, with Walter's production and occasional performance in it. However, only Fagen was primarily interested in putting out such "theme" albums that keeps it technically a solo project.
@funklover24 I doubt it, but I'm not totally sure. Porcaro died the previous year, and this song was released the following year, 1993. He did play drums on Fagen's 1982, The Nightfly, however.
I bought this single for this track because I loved the Man Tran version which I hear lots on the radio back in the day and never tracked down the "Offbeat of Avenues" album. (Finally got the Man Tran version in a second-hand shop only about 2 years ago!)
@mamakoeln Sorry, not me! Unfortunately the official video of TG, which is great, keeps getting pulled by Warner Music. I don't need another strike against me either! :)
Now you have me curious. I've heard both versions of the song and was aware DF wrote it. I was not aware though that DF wrote it FOR the Manhattan Transfer. So, the Transfer commissioned something from DF ?

The Snowbound/Kamakiriad album was my favorite album. It surpassed any of his other albums. All time best to me.

was this on kamakiriad?

@DjDerrricketa No, it was the 'b side' to the CD single that contained Tomorrow's Girls which was on the album.

That's Robben soloing isn't it?
fregot 6 months ago
@fregot Robben Ford? Not sure. I wonder how I can find out?
brtherjohn 6 months ago
@brtherjohn
Well, you can find out by asking. It's Drew Zingg.
The other way to find out is to check the Nightfly Trilogy credits, which is what I did. They're online.
Cheers

@fregot I think it might be Drew Zingg. He was the guitarist the previous two years in the New York Rock and Soul Revue

@ThePhatboy3 I bought the original CD single back in '93 at the late-lamented Tower Records. Flip side - so to speak - to Tomorrow's Girls.

@Yogurt2345 It *was* a rare track. I think it's issued on a mult-disc Fagen collection a few years ago.

Wow! I've only heard DF's version right here, right NOW, & I'm groovin' all over it!!!
His voice is in top form, great guitar throughout the consistently-interesting tune, w/the "Donlettes" on backup vocals!
A real find - like a shiny, new classic "Dan" number, dug outta the vaults from their ABC Records years.
Thanks, "brojohn"!

@StradMan37
Yeah, this is too good of a song to be relegated to a "b-side"!
brtherjohn 1 year ago
Donald Fagan's Confide In Me was written for the Manhattan Transfer on their album "The Offbeat of Avenues." And it was the grooviest song ever!
