@Cytacon Churchill warned of war with Germany pre ww2 for months when others didn't take it seriously. I suppose I could say 'I thought he was a good wartime leader' but you could easily highlight a blundered battle but it would be hard to fight a perfect war. I don't think he did well after the war.

@Hellsconsort Without US support Churchill would have been cooked and served. If Germany concentrated on invading Britain in 1941 it would have neutralized any possibility of a two front war before it invaded the soviet union. Britain, despite all of Churchills bluster and bravado could not have resisted or even contained a German Invasion, it was on the ropes, London would have been captured in less than a month. The invasion of Russia in 1941 was the biggest mistake of the war.

@Cytacon I wouldn't say without US support. I think it would have still been won but taken longer. The Americans didn't enter the war for 3 years, and obviosly were a great help. Hitler did try to invade Britain. But it lost the battle of Britain and could not sustain invasion. The atlantic largely had help from the Canadians at first, which pushed U-boats into American shores, which often hindered merchent ships by exposing them with city lights, they refused to turn off.

If Hitler bypassed the quagmire of Stalingrad, cut off the Volga and took the Baku oil fields the war in the East would have been won.

The documentary ends with the BBC complaining that modern India has only respected the INA and neglected the soldiers who were loyally and gratefully promoting the slavery of India.

A lot is made of the allied POW's who died on the railway, 12,619 of them.

Most people don't know that over 85,000 civilian slaves also died. Nearly 7 times as many.

In this case the "Enemy of your enemy" was not your friend. They used some naive Indians who actually thought Japan would help them gain independence faster and had they taken India the Indians would have been treated no better.

Further, at least the Japanese didn't tell anyone their purpose was to bring about general welfare of Indians and "prepare them" for self governance. Check out the BBC video on "India gets independence". On Aug 15, 1947, all that the BBC could remember was that Britain's "mission in India" was over. Bloody hypocrites. Do Indian newspapers, media and government celebrate the caste system? And further, India has a system of 50% reservation in all govt jobs for lower castes. In some states, even more than 50%. 50% jobs for 25% of the population! See that? Has England so much as said a word of remorse, let alone try to make it up?

Same thing goes on today except America and the rest of the west keep their slaves in third world countries producing cheap goods for the masses while making the elite few even richer.
