  • I don't like this technique its still only traditional style and as no folow up, then again maybe its because its a starters technique i don't know still..

You seem to have a good skill if this doesn't do it for you anymore switch kenpo style.

  • @quigong2012 This drill is just a framework. This video and the technique is related to showing someone the alphabet. You will never spell a word 'a,b,c,d,e,f..' etc... but it is still useful to have. There should be, in my opinion, some form of logically categorizing things.

This is one method, the method taught to me, and I find it to be a useful reference.

  • The technique is to:

    Avoid the attack

    Gain a dominant position

Destroy the attackers ability to continue attacking

    Escape

This technique that I show in the video is a short, simple way of getting those concepts across to a person new to martial arts.

So yes, you are correct, it will not be effective in its literal state, and my answer to you is that it isn't supposed to be

  • In my kempo karateclass our sensei teaches combination 6 by when the punch comes in you just do a regular front ball kick to their... area and just doing that then crossing and covering. But i truthfully like the step out and block way better and then striking to the knee becauseit could possibly brake their knee instead of just taking the risk to just kick and hope that you hit them just before they hit you so I personaly like this way a lot better than the way my sensei taught it to me thanks

  • @qwertyv100 an interesting thought to ponder is that both versions are correct.

We add the step and block, but realistically the actual technique is to dodge and kick the knee.

Any way you achieve that goal is still combo 6.

  • @tagg1080 you can tell you know have a good amount of experience in martial arts juss from what you wrote

  • @qwertyv100 There is a video of Adriano Emperado somewhere where they interview him and ask him about the combinations, and he said that they are supposed to be changed. That if you can't see that combination 6 is actually an eye gauge and a groin kick then you are not understanding the system.

I personally like to slip the punch and roundhouse kick the inside of the front knee, that is also combination 6.

They are all correct, it is the general idea, not the literal movements.

  • Keep up the basics, and don't worry about critics. With out any base the rest is useless. Keep it up Kyle.

  • In EPAK we have this thing called the Ideal Phase. Ask your instructor to throw attacks that are full of intent and do not have a C-Step (half moon?) with the attack. I know that you would use #7 against an overhead haymaker punch, but, you've got to have some life in your performance. What you are showing is the ideal situation without any reality behind the attack.

    Just a few thoughts.

  • I understand this, i guess the best way i can explain is this; What i am showing is just the skeleton of the technique, the slow crappy version that white belts are taught, so that they got the motions. As you get higher rank, we do get more realistic, change attacks, modify, etc...

Again, this is just the skeleton, you fill in the muscles of it on your own.

    hope that helps,

    kyle
