  • It's the story about a society that is falling apart and, as it falls, repeats to itself, to reassure itself: " So far, so good. So far, so good. So far, so good. "

What matters is not the fall,

    it's the landing.

  • The only thing I want to know is what happens to the other 2 cops that get out of the car

  • Have do you spell: juskisi toabia? :P

  • @bajsmachine it's jusqu'ici tout va bein

  • @ChungFat4eva

Tu as fait une erreur. C'est "Jusqu'ici tout va bien"

  • This ending stays with you. I have never been able to forget it.

  • Probably one of the top end of film !

  • i think the gun shot is hubert killing the cop, because it would show that he would go against what he was sayin to vinz throughout the film because vinz was killed by a cop for nothin........if you understand what im sayin.

  • Can anyone tell me what the message means about the society falling but reassuring itself so far so good? Like does it mean that the society is in denial about what's going on? Like try's to tell itself that everything okay even though it's falling? Or am I completely wrong? Lol

  • @TheBizzle280 That's exactly it.

  • Did he died?

  • They killed each other. The gunshot sounds the same and the gun ol boy had was the same one that cop lost and vinz found.

  • @BlaccTrash The guns aren't the same.

  • BUSHlDO

  • la meilleure fin de tous

  • I had a rather pessimistic interpretation of this movie because at the end Hubert tells the story of "un mec qui tombe d'un immeuble de 50 étages." I mean truly speaking if you fall from a 50 story building you are probably going to go 'splat.' I think that represents the hopelessness in the banlieue; even though at the beginning Hubert was the reasonable one and wanted to get out of the ghetto, he eventually falls back into the cycle of hate between the banlieusards and les policiers.

  • True art never comes from happiness. It shows.

  • @MrVesanique No such thing as true art. There's good art, bad art and non-art. Either all art is true or none of it is.

  • This was the most abrupt, shocking and well done ending to a movie I've ever seen.

  • This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen. The view on French ghetto society (I lived in France for a while) is completely spot on. As a movie, one manages to connect with the characters, I almost cried at the end. Also, the quote that Hubert says when the screen goes black is beautiful.

  • It's not often that films give me goosebumps, but I left this film feeling shocked. It's as relevant as it was 15 years ago as it is now.

  • @balaperdida Man, I think the whole point of this film is that you already know the end. It's a never ending game, only the players change.

  • 3 cops come out of the car, then only one left. Please explain

  • @lazyercy the others ran away I think thats most logical

  • @lazyercy yes, I just think that they ran away en went looking for help or something..

  • man, with this video your gonna waste this movie for a lot of people. at least put something in the discription. like spoilers or something.

everybody has the right to see this film without knowing the end

  • @balaperdida but it does say that its the ending

  • @ersguterjunge

youre right! but put a fucking warning! haha

  • Kinda like Reservoir Dogs.

  • A complete charachter reversal - Vinz passive (well, he is dead) and Hubert aggressive. And it's sad about the last gunshot - either Hubert kills the cop (and gives up everything he believes in), or he dies.

  • where do the other 2 cops go afer he shoots?

  • Of course not ALL cops are fuckheads. Only just about 90 % of them.

It really is a shame that so many cops are assholes, because they give the cops who mean good also a bad name.

So yeah ! Fuck the police ! Or in this film's language...

    NIQUE LA POLICE !!!!

  • moron ..10% are stupid, maybe, certainly not 90%

  • @MrChrisco55 HAHAHAHAHAHAhAA you're a fucking nerd. The kind of guy who always got bullied by his other classmates and has to retrieve the help of some cops. And you're calling me a moron ?! You don't know who the fuck you're talking to. Suck my dick you fucking cunt

  • wow now thats a fine analysis of my life out of a few words. Youre the one with issues buddy, seriously.

  • @tcmsnca91 Nope, you are indeed a moron. And going "LOL U GOT BULLYD" shows that you're also a shithead.

  • @Lioyd1rving Hahahahahahahaahahahahhaaha fucking loser

How long did you think about that comment ? You're not only dumb as a rock, you're also a loser who got buttfucked by other people during your entire lifetime.

But yeah keep hiding behind your screen and keep throwing those insults at me asshole. I'll still laugh knowing I'm not only smarter than you but also that I would cave your fucking face in

    bye bye bitch

  • @Lioyd1rving

Only ''shitheads'' react on old comments. Keep drawing those ugly pictures you no career fuckface

  • @tcmsnca91 "IM GUNA WRIET 2 WHOLE COMMENTS SAYING UR A LOZAR IM TOTALY NOT A LOZAR U GUISE!!!!"

Oversensitive, much? Man, there's moron and there's you.

  • @Lioyd1rving AAhahahah why are you acting like someone who's suffering from the Down syndrome ? And why do you use the word 'moron' again ? Please be more creative, I know you can be more creative

  • @tcmsnca91 >Implying you're worth it

  • @Lioyd1rving Whooow now we're getting somewhere XD

Short but not all too powerful : a bit too geeky to pack a punch. But you can try one more time to come up with an insult I give a shit about.

  • @tcmsnca91 Hah, "come up". Like I give a shit.

  • @Lioyd1rving Sorry man, English isn't my main language but I bet I'm much better in English than you are in Dutch or French. So you gotta ask yourself : who's the moron ? XD

  • Everyone says "I hate cops" but this film is very smart in that it shows not all cops are bad. That's why Hubert was telling Vinz what an idiot he was for starting trouble with the cops at the hospital because they were protecting their friend. He was trying to start trouble with any cop to be a rebel but there are good and bad cops.

  • A simple question, can anyone recommend films that are made as this in 2009,2008? This film was a true masterpiece, what films can be suggested that don't lend themselves only to effects and HD but the art of storytelling?

    Thank you

  • Dude, check out In The Loop. It's probably my favorite my of 2009 next to District 9. UK political black comedy, and totally independent. I see it as a spiritual successor to Dr. Strangelove. Scope that shit out.

  • thanks man, will do ive heard that its meant to be good

  • @kpjlflsknflksnflknsa Irreversible

  • 'In Bruges' ,best film of 2008 IMO. Funny and profound-watch it and you'll see what I mean : )

  • @Nutkin57 aweso e film but La Haine its something else!!! ;)

  • so who shoots who at the end? ive been wondering all day

  • @Revilox90 i think the fact that we hear hubert says after the gunfire gives it away.

  • One of the best ends I've seen in a film for a long time. This is a masterpiece.

  • oldsnake8592 didn't understand the message of this film.

  • whos the portrait of on the building behind?

  • FUCK THA POLICE

  • poor vinz.

he went on and on about "killing a pig." and the pig killed him!

    baise la police!!

  • @irishcatholicladdie What can you say? Life can be a bi***

  • definitely, but you have to fight for what's right.

    (///) TAL.

  • @irishcatholicladdie Yeah, you're right though...it just sucks when all you've struggled for isn't rewarded by a good result.

  • I love this film it's depressing though D:

  • best movie ever

  • The best "Movie end" Ever !

    vincent cassel 'époustouflant !!!

  • this scene didn't happen at all. Its the dying imagination of Vinz. Notice how the other cop disappeared. Vinz brain died its his minds eye thats hoping what happens next. Vinz is happy because he has kept his friend Hubert who had high aspirations in the banlieues, even by killing himself. Whether Hubert shot first, or the cop did, Hubert's dream of escaping is over.

    Check out my QOTSA covers

  • 0:37 AH AH AH AH AH AH MDR

  • ... Tout va bien

  • this film is like Fight Club, if you understand, it's shoot of reality if you don't, you become a Terrorist.

  • Hay i live in the United States do you know where i can find this film becuse they don't sell this in stores?

  • I don't live in the US, look for it in a bigger city, or in alternative video markets. Or download it, or buy it by ebay.

  • I try that

  • Jusqu'ici tout va bien...

    Jusqu'ici tout va bien...

    Jusqu'ici tout va bien...

    L'importance, c'est pas la chute,

    c'est l'atterrissage!

  • une fin vraiment excellente

  • Great film! Excellent! 10 on 10!!!

  • La Haine, is a fucking awesome film.

  • I hated and loved this movie so much, and I think most of the hate came from the end.

  • It was Hubert who shot! Well, at least the shot sounded different (more like the Revolver from the Policeman/Vince/Hubert) than the one that killed Vince.

  • Comment removed

  • cette fin--c'etait fantastique.

  • Excellent film, the ending is kinda unexpected! Kassovitz is a great director.

  • F*** the 5-0.

I have been to St Denis. That's some rough and tumble sh**.

  • ACAB

  • nothing left to say: ACAB

  • One of my favorites films... raw as life!

  • i believe Hubert kills da cop. if ya look at the cops pistol it has no bullets left in da clip

  • Hubert killed da cop and da cop killed hubert.they killed themselvs..

  • We don't know that. Doesn't matter who shot who first. It gets the point across - things are pretty fecked up in those neighbourhoods.

  • ' Jusqu`içi tout va bien.. '

  • Wonder who killed who with the last shot

  • could somebody translate the ending into english? i mean the last sentences... thanks

  • This is the story of a society falling. As it falls, it keeps telling itself: so far so good... so far so good... so far so good. It's not the fall what matters. It's how you land.

  • Actually this is a story of a man that is falling from a building or something and as he falls he keeps telling himself "so far so good"

  • your right

  • Most powerful ending I have ever witnessed, a truely stunning master piece.

    CULTISSIME !

  • where is the second cup????????????????????

  • fuck the police see what they did in serbia when we had riots few month ago killed one kid beat him to death fuck em all

  • this is the best movie ever,

but... who died at the end? the nigga or the white kid?

  • The ends deliberately ambiguous, to show that when it comes down to it doesn't matter who dies because they aren't in fact different at all. It is society that has forced them into that situation.

  • Nice answer!

  • is that the purpose???

best movie ever and your question is who died at the end???

    pffffffffffffff

  • It's not told, that's the whole point of this ending.

  • just ici tous vas bien

  • it shows life as it is in all countries in wich speak french as it seems...cause in belgium its the same thing...young persons our days just waste they're life..and this is the world we live in. THIS MY FRIENDS IS A USSUAL DAY FOR SOME. god bless you

  • don't exaggerate man :p This is just a common problem in the banlieues, which they have in every city. It's not a french/belgian problem. You should visit our countries ;) You'd see that this is only a problem in big cities like Brussels and Paris, and often (and i'm not being a racist) an immigrant problem. Whereas the rest of the country is wealthy...

  • well that is true...i have lived in brussel for 3 months and 5 in another region..and have visited france...and you r right about not being the same everywhere...but in the big cities it is like that...anyways,,,,cheers

  • ahha yeah you are right like anvers or liege or charlegois all those city are wealthy you fuckin sucker like marseille nante mulhouse lyon strasbourg belfort bordeau toulouse montpellier sete lille le havre ect ... tu connais rien a la vie

  • One of the best movies ever made!

  • I remember watching this in college back in 1997. It didn't have the impact in the USA that it should have. But soon after I watched it, I met a French guy who said that there were two kinds of Americans; those that thought every Frenchman wears a beret and carries a bottle of wine, and those who saw the movie and were shocked.

This film is from '95, but the social issues in the film have become better known worldwide (thanks to the 2005 Paris Riots being portrayed on the news).

  • "every Frenchman wears a beret and carries a bottle of wine" lol yeah, that's a poor and old image of french peoples. we're in 2008, not in 1928guys..

  • That was back in 1995. At the time, it was a common image of France. I, however, had visited Paris in 1990 and Strasbourg in 1992 and knew the image wasn't quite that. I saw the grimy parts of Strasbourg, boarded with a local family, and spent some time at a local school. I saw many of the less pleasant things.

I also noticed that when i went to places where teenagers gathered, there were no black or Arab teens around, even though there were many of them in the city.

  • invite to POLAND

    we have the similar situations...

jebana policja tylko przemoc i zło...

  • It was such a shocking ending that really brought the entire film together. Impressive and desperate. I was blown away by this movie.

  • so far so good, so far so good...

  • Masterpiece

    the best!!!

    mais c'est quand qu'on atterrit??

  • The greatest movie ever! My favourite one

This is a great quote, saying that the leap or jump isn't the part you should worry about, it's the landing that is the hardest part to face.

A great movie about a matter called hatred, that hate will only result in more hatred.

  • the end of the movie just makes it much more realistic, although its very sad...

  • I love Kassovitz for making this film , cause it's sooooooooooooooooooo good and so realistic. I love it , my favorite movie.

  • Great film, and the documentary of how they made this film is also well worth watching. The director's approach is very unique, and its something to appreciate.

  • One of the best films I've seen in past years until today. You dont see to many movies nowadays that remain ,not in your filmography, but in your mind forever!

    So realistic...

  • great film.

    greetings from Polonia ;)

  • I liked this film

  • killzoo shoud'nt watch too much tv

france is not like tv said we have poor getthos and big riots every time like in usa

Merci

  • I really hate this ending :(

When I saw the movie, I was still explaining the joke about the nun to my friend and then suddenly he died.

I was shocked :(watched the rest of the ending with my mouth open :$

    One of the best movies

  • what does this joke mean? thanks.

  • he s playing with him, he wants to show that he can do whatever he wants, but then he accidently pulls the trigger...

  • Compare this ending with the ending of Easyrider just to show what a clearly accidental shooting should look like. I've always hated how the direction and acting of the rednecks on Easyrider is so poor that I'm still not sure if it was accidental or not. But then what do I know, maybe that's the point, maybe rednecks are actually robots and it just doesn't matter to they what they do.

  • go away KillZou

  • hahaha

  • have you ever been in france, killzou? for saying shits like that, i don't think so, so for the next time, try to shut up.thank you

  • Hubert pulled the trigger. The cop is not a killer. You can see how shocked he is after shooting Vinz, and he doesn't have it in him. Hubert, however, has lived a life of misery, been beaten by cops, and has had two of his friends die at their hands.

  • Yeah,your proberly right.

  • The man in the bathroom hears them talking from the stall. Then he comes out and tells a story of a guy who froze to death because of his pride: he refused to let go off his pants to get in the Siberian train.

What he means is that sometimes you have to let go off your pride in order to survive. The three are too young to understand.

  • geiler Film!!!Best movie i ever seen!

  • geiler Film!!!Best movie i ever seen!

  • geiler Film!!!Best movie i ever seen!

  • triste... (good movie though)

  • GREAT! ENDING (that cop is really a Asshole!)

  • haha i m french and i didnt get the part with the old man in the bathroom lol.

  • I think that hubert and also the cop died, but (for who have seen the complete movie)what does it mean the part with old man in the bathroom?

  • it's a sign of things to come. They missed the train. They got fucked. Grunwalski or whatever missed his train he died of hypothermia

  • no best film i ever saw

  • one of the best films that I have ever seen...
