the toenail has a very interesting history. i believe it was advertised as very good working knife for woodsmen, carpenters, sailors, etc. as well as being a very good camp knife.
Hi man ! Many compliments to your wonderful collectuon, you have some wonderful old timer knives really uncommon here on youtube ! I'm searching here in Italy for Rough Riders knives but they are really hard to find, where do you buy yours in Europe ? From the accent I presume you are from Germany, is it right ? Many thanks ! :) Francesco
I bought a few Rough Riders from the UK webshop Heinnie , and a few others on the Austrian ebay. at. The reseller is *tirol* and his ebay shopname is Scharfe Damaszener.
@MrDagon007 Thanks a lot for your answer. I know well Heinnie and I will search on eBay for that seller. From a "beer point of view" I'm sorry for calling you German :) Your country made the best beers in the world, thanks a lot to exist ! :D
i have the same problem with the small blade on my rough rider 4 inch sunfish that you have with the large blade on your 4 inch one and on your small pearl one. it is almost like something is grinding on the tang of the blade. I still like it though, but it does show you what paying the extra money for something like a case knife will go to fixing.
As usual, great review. After seeing your post about these on Bladeforums, I was patiently awaiting the video review. I'm going to have to get myself a couple of these...great for the money. Looking forward to the GEC review...great knives. Thanks. 5/5
Great review. I have the celluloid handle knife, cool knife...........sunfish,Elephant's toenail or rope knife is the name used for these types of knife, very old pattern........
Have a look at "great Eastern Cutlery" they make some good models of this pattern.affordable prices
I would love to try a GEC elephant toenail...seems like a very hard working (and historic) pattern, and GEC makes a great knife...I'm sure it's a winning combination.

Thanks. FYI I have recently received my first two GEC knives: first impressions are EXTREMELY good.
You can expect to eventually see a review clip about them, after i get to know them a bit better...
