For 2 years, I had a '91 Z24, with the 3.1L coupled to the 5-sp. It was the best car I ever had (and I had 3 brand new cars after that one). I bought it at 282k kilometers, and sold it at 325k. It NEVER broke down. I live near Montreal. It would start easily at -35C, on the original battery. I swear, it's been 6 years, and I still miss that car, shift light and all :)
You really, really need to not know a thing about cars to call it a POS.
I grew up in North Dakota 30 miles from the border of Canada. I can appreciate a car that starts up when it is 30 below outside. The Electronics, brakes and power steering always have trouble at first though. Even in new cars. That is pretty impressive not being plugged in.
you know, it's funny how people call it shit, that car was a huge peice, but it started -30c to -50c weather.. without ever pluggin the block in, it always started, it was the steering pump that whined, and the gauges didnt work properly, you tell me where you can buy a cheap 800$ car, and drive it 140,000 km in 2 years, without ever fixing a single thing. YOU CAN'T it was cheap as fuck on gas, and still could beat half these new cars on the road, it was a little v6, it did good while i had it
@RyRobSean13 No point. Let it run for a couple minutes at the most and drive it away. It doesn't matter if the engine is idling at 1500 rpm or driving the car at 3000rpm. -30 is BAD for the engine, the best thing for it is to warm it up as fast as possible, and the only way to do that is to drive the car. My car has almost 400,000 kilometers and every winter it gets to -30 or lower for days at a time. I must be doing something right.
Ah yes, the "I have a ______, it's faster than yours" route. Ha! What could I say that hasn't been already said on your comments page. Enjoy fantasy land.
Well oil will get very thick at cold temperatures, even congeal like cooking oil does into a waxy state! Scary. So what goes into the pump has a lot of resistance and "indicates" really high pressure for a short while. Maybe lubricating some bearings too!

@RikkiiD
same with my old rusty golf. ppl call it POS, but it always worked, even with vegetable oil in winter :D without preeheating.
it never got stuck in snow where all expensive luxury sedans failed.

Bud, what oil you running in that? If it gets THAT cold there, you might want to consider a 0W-30/0W-40
rudolphna54 2 years ago
213K miles and the oil pressure pegs as if you had differentail fluid in the oilpan XD Was that the power steering growling?
mb240d 2 years ago
Nope, oil pump growling. I think the oil pressure pegs because of too thick oil for the cold weather.
