Something no right at AG ministry. Remember prosecution called cyclist attacker in Bryant case? Everything is on video. There is no evidence of the attack. Before the accident he is always at his bike.
As bike gets in front of SAAB, driver suddenly notices it, breaks and car stalls. Pulls forward impatiently. Irritated? Possibly touches rear wheel lightly (Briant's statement), but no damage. Stops. Ramming. Tough to go that far with tight clutch. Breaking with engaged clutch will stall the car immediately. Bryant breaks, but not stalls. He manages his tight clutch well.
Ramming is the first accident. He breaks, immediately reverses, turns wheels, drives forward as cyclist is still getting up. Sheppard is always in front and moves away (left) which indicates he is unstable.
Sensitive Bryant spent no time reflecting. He did not get out to ask if cyclist is OK. He assumes he is OK. He fails to provide insurance information as law requires in collision. He decides he can run from scene. Any reasonable person (never mind a lawyer) knows even low speed collisions can create significant damage including internal damage. All happens in 8 seconds. 3-4 perfect gear switches.
Cyclist jump toward SAAB only after he saw SAAB running from the scene for no reason. He latches as the car almost left the scene. Is the jump unprovoked? No. Natural reaction to stop someone from leaving. A police officer or Good Samaritan could do same seeing all which happened at the scene and be called a hero.
Bryant continues speeding up knowing that cyclist is latched and has no way to escape but dropping to his death. Best hope for survival - holding as strongly as he can hoping driver will stop. Bryant drops the cyclist and again fails to stop. Again fails to stop and remain.
Bryant got creative calling the jump an attack. Possible history of erratic behaviour facilitated this. Everything is on video and happened quickly so the history is irrelevant. It is Bryant's failure to stop and remain in the first accident which leads to the second accident ending in death. Everything is on video.
At the same time all six witnesses who claimed encounters with Sheppard drove away in a safe manner. Just an observation regardless of relevance. No erratic driving like Bryant who is experienced lawyer, politician, and likely trained to handle tough situations.
Strange the charges were dropped and no more charges were laid. Strange they are still not reinstated by the Crown and AG. Willful blindness? Everyone should be concerned.
This is a tragedy, but all you people that are crying murder over this video footage are fixated on one small part of the incident. The facts are that the victim was drunk, belligerent and made the decision that ultimately led to his death: he grabbed the car. No one made him do that (and eyewitness accounts report that he was grabbing the driver and/or the steering wheel), and that, sadly, is the root cause of all of the rest.
you clowns that blame Bryant are on dope. your own video shows Darcy was at fault and did something quite stupid. open your eyes. I hate Bryant for persoanl reasons but I cant lie to myself and blame him for this. I look at facts
A perpetually pissed off and bitter bicyclist pedaling around town instigating confrontations with people in expensive cars (jelous much?) gets bumped off. This is almost as good as when they made a pancake out of Rachel Corrie.
@MoeGreensRightEye: Oh yeah, because Rachel Corrie was helping 'terrorists' she deserves to get run over by a Israeli bulldozer. Great words coming from a right-wing warmongering neocon asswipe like yourself; I wonder what your reaction would have been like if she was a neocon Tea Party douchebag run over by cops during one of the Tea Party 'demonstrations'?
WASNT THIS GUY DRUNK??????? wow if he were driving a car he would be demonized not martyrd by every cyclist because he was on a bike.He was a lowlife and now people want to give his kids money? he was drunk he shouldve been put in jail for impaired driving! oh wait thats cars again
I'm certainly glad they got this case right. There are alot of arrogant and obnoxious cyclists in the city that are just looking for trouble. Well, He got it...
Cyclists need to obey the rules as they apply to them...unfortunately most don't. Hopefully this fool's mistake will begin a change of attitude for Toronto cyclists.
@DeadlyMACD at the end of the day, the decision that led to death was Darcy's. He grabbed a moving car. By all eyewitness accounts, he was grabbing at the driver and the steering wheel. Now, I'm all for justice for victims of crime, but look at the facts: a drunk, belligerent cyclist (with a history of being drunk and belligerent), grabs onto a car in motion, attacking the driver. Sorry, but he is dead because he had rage issues. Period.
Drunk and high on cocaine...why didnt the toronto police check for any impairment...such irrational behavior would warrant it. i hope bryant gets what he deserves...a public lynching would be good!
@1856Dragoons, Bryant is a piece of shit criminal. Anyone who is the CEO of Invest Toronto is a corrupt fucking criminal who'll sap taxpayers while collecting the money into a back account. Then he'll drain the fucking money by snorting cocaine up his bored-assed nose, and buy a fucking yacht and two homes in Europe. Fuck off ya cunt.
someone before said both were at fault. how so? imagine someone walks up to you and puts their hand in front of your face, stopping you. Is it correct to pull out a shotgun and blow his arm off? the man used a ton of metal and engine to smash someone out of his way forward. and he still had to back up afterwards to do it. which he should have done from the start. total criminal, lock him up.
Sheppard actually wasn't blocked. He was a good distance in front of Bryant's car. Seems like Bryant didn't like some hot shot on a cycle moving in front of him. He first tried to intimidate him by lurching forward. It's not clear if the light had turned green by that point. He didn't even give Darcy a chance to start riding. Then he rams him. He wasn't given a breathalyzer so we'll never know if alcohol played a factor in Bryant's behaviour.Since his reflexes were quick, I'd say he was sober
He can't plead insanity because he knew exactly what he was doing by driving around the corner out of sight of witnesses. He could have been getting rid of evidence, including concealing the identity of his passenger. That isn't insanity, that's calculated. Plus, he knew his rights about the breathalyzer and about contacting the lawyer and the PR firm. No insanity there.
Part of the pit bull law included a part where dogs can be killed if they display "menacing" behavior. There is no definition to what is considered menacing behavior; innocent dogs have been killed as a result.
Perhaps Bryant should be blue juiced for menacing behavior.
Nope. He can't say he hit Darcy or didn't know he was hanging on because he was drunk. Also, to drive that car along the curb without crashing it, while aiming Darcy into trees, hydrant and mailbox shows that Bryant was in full control of his vehicle. What we have here is road rage, but having a history of anger issues isn't a defense for murder. If anything, it shows the guy was a ticking time bomb and should be put away.
If Bryant is a former AG, i must say he displayed criminal like behavior which makes me put doubt on his tenure as AG. This guy probably was a shabby AG!
He was a horrid AG. Sentenced thousands of dogs to death, even innocent puppies, just because they looked a certain way. He did go off on people who tried to tell him that breed bans aren't the answer; a man who knows the truth doesn't insecurely lash out.
Witnesses claim that Bryant shouted obscenities, after Sheppard rode in front of him. Many drivers are unaware that cyclists can take Right-of-Way in that manner. Thus, consumed with road-rage and elitist arrogance, Bryant used his vehicle as a weapon. And he did it again when Sheppard attempted to execute a lawful arrest by blocking the vehicle (he neither touched car nor driver). Toronto's litigation industry is acceding to crime, by inducing media exhoneration.
If you look Honestedits other updated versions of this video, especially the 'raw footage', you'll see the car was moving and propelling Sheppard forward with his bumper, and at a high rate of speed. It wasn't a nudge. Darcy could have easily been run over at that point. We don't know what kind of injuries he suffered at that point, he just got up, adrenaline going, and when Bryant drove around the collision,Darcy was trying to stop the fleeing felon. He could have been dealing with DUI driver
However, FWD cars can also "crawl" sideways when the wheel is turned and the gas is put on, the front wheels act like a corksrew, causing lateral movement if there is oversteer.

I think I know where this was taken. If you check out the youtube video by superbencher called Bryant Cyclist Accident, that's the spot, a pedestrian crossing between Avenue and Bay. The markings on the sidewalk, where it's been torn up and filled in with asphalt are similar. Also the person on the top right is standing where there should be a right turn corner if they were at an intersection. He would have been driving straight for the eastbound lanes at this point. Bike lane in your vid = curb
The white markings on the road also match the white markings in the Bryant Cyclist Accident video. It must have been a red at Avenue road, so Bryant let it rip. The chase down might have only been a few feet. No chance for Sheppard to reach in or get him in a headlock if he would be fatally injured within a couple of hundred meters. I would hope that he was knocked unconscious immediately and didn't suffer.
I'm still waiting for them to release the autopsy report. Why is it not in the news?
I wouldn't be describing Sheppard as "calm and deliberate". The two were in a fight. We know Sheppard was intoxicated, and frankly I wouldn't be suprised if Bryant was too. These were 2 hotheads that got into "it". What is clear, however, is that Bryant drove over that man and kept going. That is disgusting and warrants serious jail time. At NO time is that behaviour appropriate. If he was concerned he should have pulled over and called 911.
His manner of standing and slowly walking straight legged out of the way was not aggressive or fast or towards the car.
The video shows no evidence of this "fight", however, in my uncompressed version, Sheppard does seem to move quickly 2 steps towards the car as it passes him after his bike is run over and throws his bag at the car hood as it leaves the scene. Hardly a fight. The story has been bent.
Eyewitness narration in another of the videos describes the car driver yelling lots at him.
Thanks for the wider camera. That definitely isn't Yonge & Bloor nor is it Church & Bloor since the road is one lane in either direction due to construction. Two lanes would have been at Bay & Bloor. It is confirmed to be westbound @ Bay and Bloor. The curb westbound lane was open and the center lane was closed. Both Eastbound lanes were open for Eastbound traffic, although Bryant drove down them in the wrong direction. This can be seen from the later camera angle in the other clips. "I interpet the movement as a powerslide from hard acceleration"
I've never seen the rear wheels drift under hard acceleration on a front wheel drive car.
Especially not a 3700 lb, FWD, 4 cylinder car that pulls 0-60 in about 7 seconds.
stampy123 2 years ago
Valid point, annotations ammended accordingly.
What model SAAB is in the videos?
Does anyone know?
However, FWD cars can also "crawl" sideways when the wheel is turned and the gas is put on, the front wheels act like a corksrew, causing lateral movement if there is oversteer.
honestedits 2 years ago
A metric conversion:
3700 lb = 1678 kg
60 mph = 96 km/h
(which is the speed estimate of the construction worker eyewitness)
SAAB's all come with a turbo charger, making them very sporty. There are both 4 and 6 cylinder models.
honestedits 2 years ago
My previous post was based on the incorrect assumption that the car was a Saab 9-3
The Sun has photos clearly showing that it's a Saab 900 SE. It is lacking the 'Turbo' badging so it has a normally aspirated 4 cylinder engine.
Saab 900 SE convertible (1996-1998)
2.0 litre inline 4 that produces 185 bhp
0-60 in roughly 8.5 seconds (that's about the same as a Honda Civic EX)
It's not really a performance car.
