  • what do you use to mount or sps of your live rock

  • @Arjsmithy Cyanoacrylate Gel Glue works great for gluing SPS corals.

  • what do you use to mount or sps of your live rock

  • Hey Steelo, i wanted to ask you what your running in your 2 phosban reactors? i think you mention you have the chemipure elite and what else?

  • @javier91782 I am only running one reactor with RowaPhos media at the moment. This is because my new Trigger System Sump comes with a built in media stage and this stage to house the carbon.

  • Steelo.....do you quarantine your new additions ( fish, corals) before you put them in your main tank or do you acclimate then add them? Do you recommend quarantining even if the item is from a trusted source?

  • @gmoney1961 I do acclimate them but do not quarantine them. It is always a good idea to quarantine all animals even from trusted sources, but so far, the sources I obtain my live stock from have done a great job at quarantining the fish or corals before selling them to me. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo Thanks buddy....I noticed you use Liveaquaria for your source so I'll try them....the LFS stores here suck and are over priced........

  • @gmoney1961 It's always cheaper online, even with the shipping included.

  • Steelo,

I just Finnish hooking up the lunar lights for RKE controller. The lights are worth the money I go six for my 100ga., and I have to say when the moon is just a 1/10 and the lights are same ,the tank looks cool. I was going to upload a clip bit its not enough light .

  • @abreezeducttesting Congrats. Enjoy ;)

  • Steelo, are nudibranch sea slugs beneficial to have in a reef tank

  • @brinks128 Some like the Lettuce Nudibranch are beneficial because they can consume algae, but some are predators and most are poisonous too.

  • your polyop extention is insaine, how do you do it?

  • @bangonskinnys It's all about the water parameters :)

  • Well since last time i talked to you when i shattered my tank, i since bought a 72 gallon reef ready and i am gonna get a sump refugium, so do you know of any other sump refugiums that have a cover other than the proflex? Any suggestions? Peace man and i wouldn't know chit about this stuff if it wasnt for you....take care

  • @timothylorenzini The Proflex is only semi covered, but there are others the come with a cover. I just don't know off the top of my head which ones, but i have seen them. I would research this if I were you, or consider making your own cover for the sump you chose. Good luck and thanks for the feedback.

  • what sand do u use and where did u get it?

  • @thesupercoolbean1 Please scroll through my video list for a video that discusses the live sand I use titled "Live Sand For Marine Reef Aquariums". Good luck.

  • Hey buddy....what happened to your other clownfish....I don't see him in the video.... did you move him back to your 30 gallon??

  • @gmoney1961 She passed away. Check out my facebook page and look for the pic of Nikey dead on my table. In that pic, I discuss some possible reasons why she may have died. I got a new pair coming in and posted a pic of those on my facebook also.

  • @newyorksteelo Awww.man....sorry to hear that Steelo....don't you just hate when that happen...

  • @gmoney1961 I do, but it just happens.

  • @newyorksteelo Had a hard time finding the pic.....what day did you post it?

  • @gmoney1961 Dec 22, 2011. If you go to my Photo Album, click on wall photos, you will find it quicker and can read the comments from there.

  • Steelo, the tank is looking awesome. I have a little problem I finally got all my equipment together plumbed the system and got it up and running. I have a lot of micro bubbles, I have since re-plumbed three times in an attempt to alleviate any possible leak in the return. no luck and the tank is cloudy. I used RO\DI water got my skimmer runner and have some carbon in the system. It has been running for about 3wks now . please help

  • @darrienthomas Initially, micro bubbles are common with new systems and usually diminish as the tank cycles and begins to develop slime the covers the surface of everything. Try adding filter socks to the drains below and or adding a sponge before the return stage. Hope this helps. Good luck and thanks for the positive feedback.

  • Thanks buddy for the help.

I'm getting ready to buy my first batch of corals I going to start with easy to care for corals. I was looking for videos on interducing corals, acculmating ect. , beginner corals?

  • @abreezeducttesting Its in the works and not yet released, but will be out soon for sure :)

  • Steelo,

    Whats making the ph high?

Additives are alk, calcium, Kent trace elm., I never done a water change because my nitrate, phosphate are both zero. Thanks for the help

  • @abreezeducttesting You are most likely overdosing the Alkalinity resulting in higher than normal PH levels.

  • When adding more rock to establish tank will I have any ammonia or nitrites spike in my tank

  • @MrBigregg572 It's a possibility, especially if adding live rock to an already established system. If you want to add more, I recommend you cure it on a separate container before introducing it into your tank. Good luck.

  • Steelo,

The RKE Controller is great Im learning by watching the ph display swing as soon as the lights go to dusk it drops slowly . Refugium lights Turn on to counter to keep ph up at night. My ? Is, my ph is 8.4_ 8.6 , dkh 10- 14 , calcium 480- 500 ,I use calcium/alk. Same as your video. Is the ph high? And what makes it high?

  • @abreezeducttesting Your PH is still somewhat in the safe zone, but a bit too high. I like to keep my PH between 8.2 - 8.4. You calcium seems a little high too. Anytime calcium is above 460 ppm, its too high in my opinion. Good luck and know that I am glad you like the RKE :)

  • do i need a protein skimmer for a 15g tank? i have 10lbs of live rock, normal sand 2' thick, power head, 50w heater, good filter pushes 300 l/h & T5 2x24w bulbs blue & white lightening fixture, im planinig to keep corals, 2 clown fish and one diamond gobby watchmen and also cleaning crew

  • @plzlogmein Not entirely a necessity and you can do without one with such a small tank, but with one your system will fair a lot better.

  • @newyorksteelo ohk thanks for your quick replay, do i need to keep the bio rocks in my filter apparently they create nitrite also is my lightening fixture enough? i read i need 5-6w per gallon?

  • @plzlogmein Not if you have at least 1 pound of live rock per gallon in your tank. The live rock will contain more than enough of the necessary biological bacteria to break down organics hence no bio rocks will be needed. As for your other question, please visit my video titled "Reef Aquarium Lighting" to find the answers you seek.

  • It's off ....thanks , it was the temp alarm trip b/c I set it to 79.5 and didn't change it to above. Thanks so that clears it . Thanks again

  • @abreezeducttesting Your welcome.

  • Steelo,

Hey buddy just got the RKE Controller got it set up but I don't no how to clear a alarm I looked under their support site and no luck...can you help thanks Steelo

  • @abreezeducttesting If the alarm goes off, hit the function button (FN) to silence it momentarily. The alarm will continue to trip and go on again until you fix your water parameter, bu the FN will silence it until you fix the issue. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Thanks man i have alot of it lol ill do a water change 2morrow.

  • @shakez1 Good luck.

  • Steelo what is the gray ash on top of my sand bed? Detritus??

  • @shakez1 Most likely yes, but without seeing it, I couldn't say for sure.

  • @newyorksteelo I have viewed all your vids and I love your knowledge I have since started my own setup please view my video and any comments will be taken on board cheers for the great vids keep them coming

  • @TheSlickmat19 Your welcome!

  • The tank is a 29 tall it will be a fish only tank also I want to convert the sump I have for my 65 to a refugium I am putting live sand and live rock what is that green stuff you have in yours called and where could I buy it

  • @arturopartida I am assuming you are referring to Cheatomorpha? Try researching it online and you may find it, or you can go to your local saltwater fish store and ask them to order it for you. Good luck.

  • zeovit system?

  • @2handsofgod Have yet to try it or research so cannot comment much there for the time being.

  • Great looking tank!

  • @tferg3300 Thank you.

  • Is it possible to have a tank with all natural filtration meaning a lot of live rock and a very deep live sand bed and a very good clean up crew to eat uneaten food if not could I just use a hang on filter with live rock and sand in it btw the tank is a 29 gallon

  • @arturopartida Its possible, but it sounds to me like you are trying to setup a refugium instead of a saltwater nano tank. In time, if you use this approach your tank will likely end up looking like caca if you know what I mean. A hang on the back refugium (with built in skimmer) if possible would be a better approach. If this is a square cube tank, I would avoid the DSB, but if it is a long tank like my 29g nano, I would go for the DSB. Hope this helps, good luck.

  • Happy new year bro! The tank is looking great as usual. Thanks for all the knowledge that you have shared with us. You have been a great help and service to myself and my tanks. If I could pick your brain for a minute, I have a pair of clown fish that are finally hosting one of my green bubble tip anemones. I'm feeding the anemones krill. My problem is that when I feed it the clownfish take the krill and tosses it away from the anemone. Any suggestions? Tank and project updates coming soon.

  • @007JAYDADDY Try shooing the clowns away for a while until the anemone eats it. Its what I would do. Good luck and thanks for the compliment on my system.

  • hey man check out my latest video of my 250 L

  • @31668999 I will try to make some time to view it when I get a chance.

  • What is your say in DIY live rock. I don't have enough money for all live rock. Do you think some live rock mixed with DIY rock is ok?

  • @RichardV2012 It will take longer to mature but will work. Good luck.

  • Hey Steelo. Great video as usual. I have watched your videos on dsb and I know that you dont do water changes. I was wondering if doing water changes with a dsb will hinder the dsb or if it doesn't matter either way?

  • @Cpedro1685 Not at all. If you are a beginner, I would recommend you to do water changes and they wont affect or hinder the deep sand bed. Good luck.

  • Amazing colors!

  • Tank looks awesome! :)

  • @MTomkinson96 Thanks for the feedback :)

  • where can i buy sugar fine live sand i found the finest it gets but its dead and comes with bio packets

  • @vanhalenman60 They sell this sand online all over the place. Just Google research for natures ocean live sand #0 and you shall find it :)

  • you should add a mandrid goby or however you spell it

  • @vanhalenman60 I would love to have this animal but it would be detrimental to the life in my deep sand bed. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • @newyorksteelo how does it damage your sandbed

  • @vanhalenman60 It preys on the very life that makes my deep sand bed work properly. Please visit my video titled "How To Setup A Saltwater Tank Deep Sand Bed" to find the answers to this question. There is a link on that video to a great article on deep sand beds which discusses this very issue.

  • @newyorksteelo oh ive seen every one of your videos but since your tank is full of pods id think it would avoid your sandbed

  • @vanhalenman60 I want more and more pods and live that keep the deep sand bed clean and detritus free. Adding this fish will hider the sand bed t the point that I may start to see more detritus in the bed and higher decomposition levels, possibly leading to nitrates. Wish I could but I cannot have the best of both worlds. The deep sand bed is one of the major Keys to me not doing water changed for more than a year, and so I have to be careful with what i add in the tank :)

  • WOW! What a difference in the quality of the video. I look forward to seeing more videos with that camera.

  • @uarujoey Thanks man. Got a new video coming out this upcoming Sunday night possibly. Highly recommend the camera and glad to hear that you see the difference :)

  • i have 2 tunze 6100 with 7095 controller, i think you have the mp40 do you have it in pulse mode or interval

  • @ldam I have mines on short pulse mode.

  • I have two tunze 6100 with controller 7095 do you have it in pulse or interval

  • @ldam With these pumps, you can control the flow so i recommend you mess with it a little more to achieve your desired results.

  • I do too 2 6100 do you have it in pulse or interval

  • How did you get your sand level to be even, mine keep pushing to the side

  • @ldam Control your water movment to prevent this. My pumps come with a wavemaker which allows settings to control the flow of water throughout the tank. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • do you still have your ice fire echinata

  • @ben11vick This coral was sold along with several other frags when I fragged the Green Capricornis. This information was covered in my most recent closeup video :)

  • Looks FAN-DAMN-TASTIC Homie!

  • happy new year and may all you're dreams come true

  • @duval007P Likewise buddy.

  • I don't know steelo one day I just see that my account was close but I will make more videos coming soon the problem is that people can't see how I start

  • @Reef5168 Sorry to hear that. They should have at least given you an explanation as to why this happened. Its always best to have the videos saved up on a separate hard drive in case this happens. I have all my videos on one of these HDD so if it happens to me, I would be right back up in a matter of days with all my videos in a new channel. Good luck :)

  • Hey buddy I would like to get a wave box or wave maker.. I do have a wave controller that turns pumps on and off for circulation. But I want the back and fourth wave kinda like what you have. Any ideas what I should get without spending a butt load of money on it?

  • @blazin068 It's gonna cost you some good money to get this effect. You can achieve it with the pumps I have, or with the Tunze wavebox and pumps. These are expensive, so get ready to shed some cash on them. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo as always your a big help thank you.

  • @blazin068 Your welcome.

  • Hey NYS. I saw in one of your really old videos u took away a host anemone from your clownfish and I was wondering how they reacted when u did this. I have to do the same thing to my Ocellaris clownfish and was wondering what the odds are that he becomes a very aggressive/depressed fish. Thanks.

  • @Dabears1996 mines just started disturbing the sand bed with their tails trying to establish territory. This did not last long though cause I quickly got them another anemone.

  • I dislike? Really?!? Haters are gonna hate. Yo, Steelo how in the hell do you NOT make water changes??? Is it the miracle mud? And if it is, can I swap out my refugium sand for some miracle mud? Or can I just put in some miracle mud with the sand?

    Amazing tank. Sweet baby jesus!!!

  • @artsole21 Its a combination of the entire setup. The deep sand beds, miracle mud, refugium lighted 24/7, live rock, large skimmer, strong water movement, not overstocking the tank, chmipure media, phosphate reactor with media, changing out the media as needed, dosing the system accordingly, the list goes on and on. Its not just one thing, or the mud only, its a combo of the over all setup. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • Hi steelo, U MH 250Watt? How much ur monthly electricity bills?

  • @UltimateKeylogger My halides are 150w a piece, and my bill is not high at all. I have 2 full blown reefs (the 90g system and 30g nano systemin my house and with all the equipment, pumps, and everything else, its like an extra 30 bucks a month to run both my reefs :)

  • Nice new camera bro! Your tank is looking epic bro. Thanks for all your info man you have helped me out alot to get back into my hobby i love, i had kinda got bord with til i started watching your vids. p.s. sorry to hear about Nike bro.

  • @nwsboots666 Thanks!

  • Nice steelo I'm naruto5168 they close my original account but I'm in the hooby and many changes acroporas on my tank healthy thanks to you

  • @Reef5168 Really, what happened bro? I was wondering where you have been? Why would they close your account?

  • Happy New Year Steelo. You mentioned that you have mixed feelings on the AI lighting. I also had a some browning and bleaching of corals.. I also found out that the LEDs are too strong if you purchase SPS that run under T5 lighting and you would need to start the SPS to go deep in the tank and run closer as time goes on. SPS that are purchased under MH lighting don't need to be acclimated with the led. Will post some online soon so you can see. have a prosperous New Year my friend.

  • @MetsRamsFan Yes, the sudden change from one lighting to another can always lead to bleaching and browning out, but that what the controller is for, and even despite this the corals just dont look as good as they would under metal halides. Not at all. I will be covering all of this in detail on my upcoming video. Stay tuned.

  • Nice colors

  • @maxindoor Thank you!

  • Happy New Year Man! Corals look pristine! Have just uploaded a video on my automatic water change and it works! YEEAH! check it out if you get a chance!

    New Camera is superb!

  • wwwwooooooooooooowwwwww lol new laptop new camara ..nice ...i dont know if u saw this vid but check it out a reef in the sky ... that camara is a wow its water proof

  • @lilmr5boros1 Thanks bud. I will take a look for sure :)

  • The sound of you VorTechs make me sleepy!

  • @Elroyaquatics lol, they sort of resemble a windy noise only heard when you are really close to the tank :)

  • Beautiful colors!

  • GREAT LOOKING VIDEO!!!! CONGRATS ON THE NEW TOY reef looks amazing

  • @mackserg Thank you!

  • The marine land fixture you reviewed put out 54 watts but the stunners put out 24 each so three Would be 72 so maybe worth a try?

  • @FishNbricks20 Watts has no bearing in most LED fixtures, and I am afraid i can not give you my blessings on it without having tried them myself. I got 2 AI's that are 70+ watt each and I am getting mixed results with my SPS frags. Some browning out, other bleaching, and some are just stunt when it comes to growth.

  • Thanks

  • @FishNbricks20 Your welcome :)

  • Would it be possible to have multiple 48 inch stunner strips as my 75 gallon systems light? They put out 24 watts each

  • @FishNbricks20 I have yet to try these strips so cannot comment much there. I will tell you that I am experimenting with some LED fixtures and have not had much success when it comes to SPS corals, but like I said, I have yet to try these. Good luck.

  • Crystal clear bro

  • Which sites do you prefer for your coral purchases?

  • @MetsRamsFan Hands down, liveaquaria!

  • HD !!! LOL

  • @NYCMarineFish Full HD :)

  • Yo Steelo Merry Christmas! Wowwwww. Tank looks awesome! Btw did you get your corals from Manhattan Reefs?. Update our Aqua Illumination is awesome. Have a wonderful New Years!

  • @MetsRamsFan I have not bought my corals from there in more than a year (too expensive) and so I have relied on online purchases. I also cannot say the same about the aqua illuminations. I have my complain with those as well buddy. Stay tuned for the upcoming video review. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you and yours as well :)

  • Do clams close at night?

  • @MoochagraProphet Yes they do. Sometimes they stay opened at night too.

  • ♫♪ *•.¸¸.•* ♫♪ ☼♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥☼ ♫♪ *•.¸¸.•* ♫♪ sooooo cool Happy New Year :) xx

  • @GuessWhatTheImageIs Likewise :)

  • true!!that gadget is amazing. and you are the coolest reef keeper ever!!!wow!!

  • @DesertSubstrate Thank you!

  • Very nice. Tank looking good also. Still no water changes?

  • @1010yorky No water changes buddy! Thanks :)

  • ey newyorker,

its a while ago but you got some amazing corals!

was that a caliendrum on 4:42?

    its great!

  • @nedFanatic That is a "Green Stylophora" SPS coral. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • Hey Steelo do you wedge your corals in the rock or do you glue them?

  • Hey Steelo do you wedege your corals in the rock or do you glue them?

  • @gmoney1961 I glue them.

  • @newyorksteelo ...Your tank looks beautiful, hands down!! I'm working to get there, takes time and patience. My question is what type of glue do you recommend and personally use.

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

    Devin

  • @dhall78 I am a big fan of the IC-Gel glue and have used it in the past with great success. Thanks for the feedback. Happy New Years to you too.

  • @newyorksteelo Another question....did you take the rock out of the tank or attach the coral while your rock was still in your tank

Thanks and Happy New Year to you......

  • @gmoney1961 I did not take out the rock. I applied to glue outside of the tank and then positioned the coral onto the rock inside the tank, held it there for about 30 seconds to a minute, and viola coral now looks more natural. But I had to remove the coral from the frag (pain in the ass to do but if careful very possible to do) so as to make it look more natural. I absolutely hate having a frag in the tank. I save the frags and put them on my 30g nano to grow more of the same coral on the frag.

  • @newyorksteelo Cool buddy.....thanks for all the good advice you've given to your subscribers; you've made reefing so much easier for a lot of us...... take care.....

  • @gmoney1961 Your welcome. Many more videos and advice to come!

  • nice camera. hay steelo i just cycled my nano and it came with one blue light, one white light, and one black light. i went out and brought 2 clown fish and last night when i turnt the black light on one of the clown fish went crazy then just sat on substrate paralised, couldnt move at all but the other clown was fine. what the hell do you think is going on.. i would film it but dont want to put the clown through it again

  • @DPMANLA A black light? Do you mean actinic light or a black light similar to what you see in a club near the bar? Anyhow, you probably startled him by turning on the light during the night hours. Try not to do this again so as to not shock and scare the living hell out of the clown. Instead, wait till morning time to catch a glimpse of the fish. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo yes i think the one in clubs and bars, it makes white clothes glow up..it came with the tank and its ment to be for night times thats whats on the box but that clown must be getting some kinda shock from it or some thing. no im not going to use it now no way not after seeing that. love your new cam btw. keep your vids coming i enjoy watching them.

  • @DPMANLA Not too sure if this bulb is even adequate for aquarium use. I wold research this online if I were you. Even if this is the case with this bulb, I doubt the actual bulb had something to do with the clown behaving like that. Must have been just that you startled him to near death. Good luck and please do keep us posted on your progress.

  • Awesome tank and high tech camera bro.

  • @Isaac7G Thanks for the feedback :)

  • One more for good luck WOW!

  • @tcfagley lol, I definitely threw in a few WOW's in that video lol.

  • Omg that camera makes every thing pop so bright. I love both your hammer corals. That green is so bright. Your really making me want to tear down my 75g planted tank and going full on reef

  • @chillwill7007 That is how the corals look in person bro. The camera is simply capturing it as you would see it if you were in front of the tank looking at it. Reefs are the highest you can reach in marine aquariums, and no fish out there can compare to the beauty of so much life in a tank full of corals, "in my opinion". It's like paradise :) Please do let us know if you decide to go all reef and keep us updated.

  • hey what tang(s) would you recommend for a 75 gallon reef tank? and what is the coral at 3:00 and that camera makes your tank look amazing

  • @Bechertanks I already answered your question below buddy. And the camera is simply making the reef look like it does in person and even still the reef looks better in person :)

  • @Bechertanks I believe the coral you are referring to are called "Acans".

  • @newyorksteelo one more thing, do you have a list somewhere or a video on "cool" beginer corals?

  • @Bechertanks I have yet to make this video but a good way to start is with Softies, such as Leathers, Mushrooms, and Zoas, Very easy to keep and can tolerate swings in chemistry easier than say SPS corals. Hope this helps, good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo thanks man cant wait for the next video

  • @Bechertanks It will be up soon for sure :)
