as i see these r 3d projections of them. i'm not a professor but as far as i know from other youtube videos, rotating 4th or 5th dimensions in 3d space seem way different than this.
@PedroV362 That's because we don't hve 4d objects but we know what their shadow would look like if they were to cast one on our dimension, Carl Sagan explained it.
Respond to this video... You kind of have disagreed, even if you can not explain why. :)
Dimensions of reality are not the same as dimensions of a shape. Shapes are done as followed. 1D x Axis 2D x + y Axis and 3D is x,y and z Axis. The problem is when we try for the 4d, because we do not have another axis after z to add. However we can still illustrate a 4D shape with x,y and z by simply adding a twist to the x axis.
Continued due to you tubes stupid word limitations.
Respond to this video... Take a ribbon, add a twist and join it as a circle. Take a pen and start on the outside, you can go both inside and outside of the ribbon with never leaving the ribbon. This is a true 4D shape, and is evident everywhere. Especially in the structure of DNA.
@TCupUK sorry, i don't know what exactly is a ribbon, cause i am not american, im brazilian, so i dont speak english very well, but i think i understood you :)
The fourth dimension is time. Think about it. For any dimension lower than the one above can only see part of the dimension. If a cube visited a square then the cube would look like a square to the other square because thats all it can conceive. We only see one frame of time at one time. Like movies have frames we only see one at a time even if it is for a short period of time. If we were four dimensional we could travel through time and we would look like we do now to any 3 dimensional object
@geglespheler Do research and fix your grammar before calling someone an idiot. A hypercube is an orthotope in any dimension above 3. A tesseract is a hypercube of dimension 4 (tessera=4). Both words are names of the actual shapes, not of the projections.
I see it this way: the entire thing is "4D." The center "cube" represents a person in the fourth dimension, and the solids surrounding it roughly represent the 3D "cube" that such a person sould be able to see.
Similarly with 5D, the 4D object (being the entire cube someone in the fourth dimension would see) represents someone in the fifth dimension, and the marble-like objects represent the boundaries of what that person "sees."
well i doubt you are suppose to know what you are looking at, 4d and 5d is not bound to our reality so we wouldnt have a idea of what the hell we seeing at all.
it should because as you go higher in dementions your just adding another direction, you dont lose any of the previous ones,so it should look 3d and look some other weird way,i cant say that this video demonstrates it perfect because iv never been to 4d but iv seen better illustrations
well it should seem 3d. In our reality, 3D objects have a 2D shadows. Then in other realities 4D objects would have a 3D shadow. It's impossible to show how a 4D object looks in our world, but it's possible to show how a shadow of 4D object would look like and that shadow looks 3D in our world. So basically you're looking at a projection of a 4D object, like a shadow of it.
@ZmbQn not really- its the same principal, but the time is quite a bit less to go from a bulb to your eye than from the sun. All we see is not 'real' time, but what hapened when the light left any given object.
bangNL94, that's a cool thought but we are in a 3D world so we are surround by 3D objects. A 3D object cannot have a 3D shadow in our world the same way a 2D object can't have a shadow in it's 2D world, they can only have 1D shadows that represent length.
time being the 5th dimension or the 4th or whatever is not true time is just a princepal humans live by.Other things could live without time we wouldnt see them move as they apper to be stopped but they are moving there not moving ''fast'' just not using time to move
Geez, why does everyone keep saying the thing about the fourth dimension being time? This is how it works: there's more than one kind of four-dimensional space, in a mathematical sense. As examples, this is R^4 with the Euclidean metric; "space-time" is R^4 with the Minkowski metric. I suggest that people interested in knowing what the difference is look into differential geometry since it is interesting.
@qwAirGear well these two theories (the geometric and time theory) are really the same thing. The idea is that time is another tangible axis in which objects can exist, so a tesseract's fourth dimension is time if you're willing to believe that.
Chech the vid "Carl Sagan 4th Dimension", then you know what it means. Well... it's math.
To make it short, that is what a 5 dimensional cube would look like while it moves trough your room. It stays in position, just the shape would change while moving, then it dissapears. If you ever see such a thing, runnnnnn! =D
5th dimension is possibilities of timelines. Ie. you can be in one timeline you can be doctor time can split in that moment and in second time line you can be a politician.
Understand?Higher dimension are superior to lower dimensions.
you can glimpse at it in your mind some times, when a 3D animation is animated considering the 4th dimension you can kind of imagine it for a short time, but then the brain recognises the pattern and asociates it with 3D again.
the way i often imagine it is as a very obvious you over looked space, it here. its all around us, just we evolved to understand 3D. its right in front of our eyes, glearing us in the face, yet the brain filters it like eyes filter out some kinds of light. hmmm headache.
Remember, you can't move through time as you like, it is no direction. These maths see dimensions as directions.
If you knew a 4th dimension (direction) you would title time as 5th. That's what these guys here do. There is also time in this movie, because the calculated projection of the 5D cube moves through our 3 dimensions.
