Nope the goverment pushed Fannie and Freddie to provide the sub prime mortgages to give lower income families the opportunity to become home owners. Only to double their mortgage payments and take the assest back.They thought the asset would have value when they got it back but, their lame ass plan back fired.Instead of added value to their books via forclosed homes they ended up with more debt than they could take. So they bundled it in securities and sold it to the rest of the world,nice guys
