@mobilemactech I have not contacted macally, as I purchased it in the apple store in Portland OR, and I'm currently back in the country where I live, which is Sri Lanka. I'm very disappointed with the product as the tear seems to be increasing daily.
Just a update. I contacted MacAlly to try and arrange getting a black case to test with, but they never responded. I can't really afford to be buying duplicate cases, so I'll be doing a follow-up review on how the Bookstand is holding up as soon as I can.
@retnoh I haven't had any material problems with the Bookstand or the flap so far. Did you contact Macally about it. It may be a manufacturing defect.
UPDATE: The black MacAlly BookStand is now available. I'll see if I can get a hold of one. I also post a usage update soon now that my move is finished. In short, I'm still really happy with the case.
@COD4kade Well, that depends on what you need from the case. If you are very concerned about scratching, or possible damage if you were to drop it, then the 3 exposed sides would be vulnerable to damage. In general I do mind the fact that the sides are exposed since it allows good, unobstructed access to controls and ports, as well as the iPad's nice aluminum finish. So far I have not had a problem with scratching which is probably due to my care, and the durability of the aluminum.
Can you please post an update. How do like the case now after a couple weeks of using it? Have you noticed any scratching on the contact corners where it pops in? Does the strap still hold well? Thanks
No, the the plastic shell that covers the back of the iPad is much too thick, but what I like about the case is that it is easy to pop out the iPad quickly if you want to dock it, so I don't mind so much. Sliding the iPad out of the Apple case every time seemed like a chore (it is also too thick to use a dock).
When I have the iPad "docked" I generally like it in landscape mode anyway, so I am using the Macally case with the USB cable coming out of the side of the iPad.
There may be some variance in the case manufacturing, but in spite of the 'click' or 'snap' sound, the corner pieces on mine do not actually overlap the corners at all, not even the beveled edge. There is a very tiny lip on the corners, but slight enough to possibly be a manufacturing side effect. It would be interesting to get some more observations, and possibly a comment from MacAlly. If I can get a macro lens, I can try to show what I am talking about.
It's not a friction lock, it does overlap at the corners, just a little. You can plainly hear it doing so in the video. A friction lock wouldn't click like that.

@NikiNeato I hope to post an update soon. I'm in the middle of moving so haven't had the time.
@Jermu123 Last I checked, the black version was still a preorder. I'm definitely interested in checking it out though.

If you get a black version of this case I would like to see it.

Great review, thanks. One quick question. Can you dock the iPad with the Macally case on?
