To be honest, this is a lot better then brazilianjoker's speed run which has big boss rank.

Taking no damage is a lot harder then doing a speedrun where you do get hit.

BTW, I don't get it, why should anyone be so orthodox about not taking damage, sometimes you just can't avoid it. E.g. when You picked up the PAL key from rat, You jumped into the water and Snake suffered some (negligible, but still) damage. In this part, damage is as inevitable as some alerts is the game are (And No-Alert runners don't take it as a failure, when they trigger themXD). So, I personally take it as a complete No-Damage run.

The 9 "Being Spotted" is what most likely killed the Big Boss rank since to the BB you can't be spotted or use Rations. But I watched all the videos and you're very good to get to the escape sequence without being hit. Kudos to you GarlandTheGreat.

I'm pretty sure you can do this game without taking damage because the Big Boss title allows ONLY ONE ration to be used. Probably after that prick of a checkpoint is the time to use it. There should be one at the start of the hallway once REX is destroyed, just in case people didn't know

its actually a success but a fail for that no damage part from the guards i got past them without gettin hit but only on normal mode either way just keep sprayin side to side. but why did he get an eagle ranking whats the highest ranking??? its not impossible just impossibly difficult i still cant get past raven he just guns me down from behind and i dont even have a chance to use stingers or nikita he guns the missile and me

During the torture mini game against Ocelot, you have two choices: Win the torture by tapping fast the circle button (Meryl lives and escapes with you) or submit by pressing the select button (Meryl dies and Otacon escapes with you instead).

Snake has the dominant genes and Liquid the recessive genes. Liquid always thought his recessive genes were inferior to Snake's dominant genes, but in the final conversation after the ending between Ocelot and Solidus, if you get the ending where Meryl lives, Ocelot reveals that Liquid's recessive genes were actually superior.

The term "superior" is used in MGS because those make a better soldier, whilst dominant or recessive means the chance of a trait to manifest itself in a descendant. Snake has the dominant phenotypes expressed and that's the reason he looks exactly like Big Boss, and Liquid has the recessive traits expressed and that's the reason his skin tone and hair color are different. What Ocelot means after the credits is that Liquid's phenotypes actually made a better soldier, not Snake's dominant.

I just did this part today, i mean i got hit but when u get to the part with 3 guards i didnt get hit :O mainly due to a possible glitch however. What happened was i focus fired the guy on the left and the other 2 guards, after taking the first hits, instead of returning fire - actually ran behind me where i dutifully cut them down. This running behind me has happened a lot and makes it possible not to get hit here (however the legitmacy of this is uncertain)

After watching all the vids I'd say good work. Very talented gamer, probably better than me at most games. Two questions though. If you didn't actually go through the entire game with no damage because it was pretty much impossible as said in the description then 1. Why title the videos as "no damage" and 2. Why didn't you go through the torture sessions if it was impossible to have no damage anyway?

1. That's the name of the challenge, and since this was the only part I couldn't get through without taking damage, I simply added a "failed" in the title.

2. Three reasons. First of all, I didn't know it would be impossible at that point. Second, because going through the torture on Extreme is torture in real life too. Finally, even if it is impossible in the end, I still wanted to get as far as possible without taking damage.

I guess I can understand #1 (even though it sounds kinda deceiving cus it only says failed in the last video and not on your channel or other mgs vids). But #2 sounds kinda like an excuse, after all this game was made nearly a decade before you posted these videos and the extreme difficulty couldn't have been your first playthrough since you have to unlock it first. No offense but it sounds f.u.b.a.r., yes the torture's hard but you knew that going in (maybe gatorade would help?).

Garland, I have a suggestion, though i've never played the game before, remember the part with the 3 gaurds u got shot at, its a possibility that before the driver swurves the car left, turn your gun all the way to the right and nail the guy on the right first and quickly continue to the gaurds on the left, its a theory

Three words....'Totally Fucking awsome." I remember playing this game at the age of 10 I think it was, I thought it was some gift from the sky when you got to use the cardborad box. Shame you never got to do it without getting hurt once, but you put in alot of effort and thats what counts. Possibly the fastist time I have seen someone complete MGS as well, took me forever to complete Ghost Babel.

I'm pretty sure it *isn't* impossible to beat that section without taking damage. Try aiming the gun towards the right of the vehicle, then when Otacon swings the jeep around, you have a clear shot towards one of the guards. I think holding down Triangle lets you aim up and down as well...

i read on an interview with kojima that you cannot complete mgs 1 without getting hit. At this last section you will get hit. its the same as you cant complete the game without being seen obv it is programmed into it. anywas brillaint video!!! That sucks at that part. Then again, I do remember how when I saw a speed run of that part, the guy took a good deal of damage at that exact spot trying to kill them.

It may just have to be accepted, but look at it this way. 99% of the game can be done with No Damage, so I'd say that's very, very close to perfection.
