I've got a Ford Explorer, and I always get my pressure checked at least twice a month. Never had a rollover, and now i have some sway bars installed so it will slide instead of roll.
besides, the rollovers were due to people not knowing how to control the car, or they were going to fast anyway.

I tried this on my Scion, my work van (a 2003 caravan) and my mother in law's corolla. None of them could keep going. The brakes won out in a matter of a few dozen meters.

When GM steps up their auto line in quality, their parts will also shoot up in price. GM needs to replace the Cobalt, Impala, (to name a few) which are all SHIT.

I refuse to believe that any competent person would be unable to bring a runaway car to a halt. However with many of these incidents occurring in the Prius it makes me wonder if simply standing on the brakes is inadequate due to the high torque output of the electric motors. The electric motors in the second generation prius put out 295 lb ft of torque while the motors in the third gen prius only put out about 150 lb ft. What I'd like to know is how many incidents involved the third gen prius.

About the media influencing the automarket, I recall that Lancia had "died" way back when. It was because of the highly publisized rust problems even though many cars during the 70s were poorly rustproofed. I agree with the others who say the goal is to reduce import sales

Seen in some cars u press and hold the start button for 3or4 seconds & it will shutoff, in others u press the Start button 3or4 times in a row which singles the ECM the driver is starting to panic & kills the motor. I think the guy lied or he tried that trick with the Cruise Control causing it to flake out & accelerate - same issue found by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Just say'n 1 Prius out of how many running around?

@affordableauto420 Ford parts are more expensive because they are better quality... hence the reason why most Fords (depending on the model) are more reliable over GM vehicles. When GM steps up their auto line in quality, their parts will also shoot up in price. GM needs to replace the Cobalt, Impala, (to name a few) which are all SHIT.

Toyota should confront this guy in public, just saw the interview and i'm not convinced he did what was nessesary to stop the car. i tried something like that on my car and the engine could not overpower the brakes, my car Peugeot 405 Mi16 with 150 Hp and stock brakes.

When you first started this segment of FLD on Thursday, your show received only a 2.0 Star Rating. However, the rating slowly increased and now you are sitting at a 4 Star Rating. Next week you might even hit 4.5! Congrats on your success. It was rough at first with all the negative comments, but it seems like viewers are starting to accept your segment. Keep up the good work.

i have owned a Toyota and the reason i dont any more is cause they make boring cars. the hole problem or lack there of the acceleration problem is just the last nail in the coffin. When toyota brings back a mr2, cellica or supra or somthing fun to drive on the road( pickup is fun off road but not on) i will give them consideration again, but until then toyota is dead to me and i hate the media reminding me of that fact

The toyota prius was just a freak accident in the computer it happens now and then in all cars no one can predict it and it doesnt happen that much but when it happens its all over the news which i find it pretty interesting because it seems like the media is trying to find any reason to put down a car company for every little mistake, but for myself id never get a prius because i got to have a car that at least goes over 100, come on really 94??!! lol

The cars are getting fixed but most people are to stupid to realise it. I'm not a huge fan of Toyota, but if I felt the need to get one, this whole deal would not stop me.

Distracted driving is an issue on a much bigger scale with HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS of injuries or deaths last year alone. But I guess we can blame Honda for that because nobodies has tried to tarnish their reputation yet.

I never thought I'd do this, but I favorited this.
I check my tire pressure once a month. I check my oil one to two times a week.
These are things car manufacturers expect their owners to do, but realistically, less than 5% (just a randomly guessed number) of people are actually responsible enough to check and maintain their cars.
Yeah, the media sucks. Hell, the media doesn't know crap about cars.
As for stuck gas pedals, that's what the brake, parking brake, and clutch are for :P

And as far as the Firestone and Explorer thing. It was Ford's fault the average driver should be able to pull over the vehicle rather than being so unstable that it rolls over.
Personally I think Ford is NOW one of the best automakers but I've driven the late 90s Explorers those things are a bit unstable.

My dad owns a wrecker svc I worked there 3 years most wrecks are never investigated this probably happend a hole lot more than its been recorded plus most cops don't believe the driver or record everything said.
I'd still own a Toyota but be honest guys.

wow the whole thing about ford and the suv tires.... wow... ok well ford designed the suv to have 28 lbs of pressure in the tires, the tire company said that it needed 32, ford ignored them and look what happened. people died because ford wouldn't listen to the company that is completing the link from the car to the road. dont get me wrong the explorer and the f series are awesome but things like this happen and its nice to see it happen but it wasn't the consumers fault! or the dealers.

I refuse to believe that any competent person would be unable to bring a runaway car to a halt. However with many of these incidents occurring in the Prius it makes me wonder if simply standing on the brakes is inadequate due to the high torque output of the electric motors. The electric motors in the second generation prius put out 295 lb ft of torque while the motors in the third gen prius only put out about 150 lb ft. What I'd like to know is how many incidents involved the third gen prius.

If anything I'd want to buy one now as long as they make a car that is good and is price reasonably to what it should fine because if you buy a GM now your paying in to the government/company and your helping bring down the US debt which could in turn bring down taxes and then GM can buy back what the US government owns and become "independent"

About the media influencing the automarket, I recall that Lancia had "died" way back when. It was because of the highly publisized rust problems even though many cars during the 70s were poorly rustproofed. I agree with the others who say the goal is to reduce import sales

This will cause Toyota sales to drop, which it has, and even Lexus sales are dropping. True, that the company can get out of this, but as of now both Toyota&Lexus sales are dropping. Also I find it to believe in this situation the media is bias against Toyota. They don't report on the GM steering problems and recalls.

It is the American public that determines the reliability of car manufacture. Not the actual vehicle. If the public says its a great car people buy it and when they own it they dont have a major problem, it is the best car they have ever owned and recommend it to everyone. This is however ony foreign cars. American made cars are held to a higher standard than those of its rivals. i actually herd someone say the new Malibu was a bad car because they had to change the brakes at 29k milesSeriously

Seen in some cars u press and hold the start button for 3or4 seconds & it will shutoff, in others u press the Start button 3or4 times in a row which singles the ECM the driver is starting to panic & kills the motor. I think the guy lied or he tried that trick with the Cruise Control causing it to flake out & accelerate - same issue found by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Just say'n 1 Prius out of how many running around?
