  • People that are in these elected positions are just stupid. I cannot believe that something like this passed. So now you can call someone a fag. All you have to say that someone is a fag because Jesus says so. Poof! Exempt!

This is ridiculous! How did they think this was supposed to help? Did they not think that this would be abused as an excuse? I don't live in Michigan but I do NOT want this to pass. If it does, I'm afraid other states may follow with the same crap!

  • @CobraBKeX see, that's how I feel. I'm scared of other republicans getting the idea. I live in a state where if a gay couple came here, the state won't even recognize them as being married. In my city alone, there was a kid that hung himself a few years ago who was 12 or so, because he was being bullied. And the kids of my youth group disgusted me by saying "Well he was weird." and all I could think "He needed a friend, and you saying that is what killed him." I'm the one who got in trouble.

  • Beccs, you say you see no hope for this country - look in a mirror. Young people like you who have overcome the hatred and bigotry of the older generation are the only hope. Work together and put the haters out of office. All too often the haters claim to be the only true christians and they are the only ones the republicans listen to. The corporate power elite in this country uses religion to rile people up into hating other people - that's how the 1% controls the 99%.

  • @deathray32 Well, as I told my friend last night, I don't really have a desire to get into the news or anything big like that. I'm just a girl who is trying to make my voice be heard. My peers aren't going to stand for these injustices. I would love to get more involved with activists and if people like WBC can be known as the "Christians" who hate Gays. I want to be known as the Christian who loves ALL. Not just who I think is worthy.

  • HI EVERYONE. I MADE A PETITION TO CHANGE THE RELIGIOUS/MORAL CONVICTION PART OF THIS BILL. THIS IS DISGUSTING AND WRONG. IT ONLY PROTECTS BULLIES. PLEASE EVERYONE SIGN. WE CAN CHANGE THIS.

    change dot org slash petitions/michigan-senate-change-matts-safe-school-law-which-protects-christians-who-bully-gay-kids#

  • ... and just to clarify... "love thy neighbor" means love thy "CHRISTIAN" or JEWISH neightbor. It doesn't meant the same thing as what our modern morality interprets it as.

  • @cabsmellokub79 "Do Unto others As You Would have them Do Unto You" isn't just Christian and Jews. It's for EVERYONE.

If you think it's wrong to love anyone who isn't a Christian or Jew, then you need help and you better look at your bible a bit closer.

  • There's going to be a big law suit in the state against that bill very soon.

  • You go, girl!

  • I have always said religion should never interfere with our laws and this is a perfect example on why it should not occur.

  • @Sallyallie89 I can't agree more. Yes maybe the idea of separation of church and state isn't what it was when the founding fathers, but I firmly believe that religious ideals should not be put into the making of laws. I of course believe that anyone has a freedom of Religion but they shouldn't take their religious ideals and throw it into bills. Because what one religion says is right, the other doesn't, and it causes conflict.

  • @TheRealBeccsHarkness Exactly. This bill is just crazy. I feel like we are going BACKWARDS in history. I feel as if this law is something you would have read in one of your history text books, not NOW in today's day and age where we are supposed to be respectful of everyone no matter what our beliefs are.

  • @TheRealBeccsHarkness

All religions (at the core, basis of religions) talk of fairness and preach about ethics/morals.

I personally don't believe in bullying. You asked where in the bible does it say its ok to bully? I'll play devils advocate and ask you where in the bible does it say gay relations are ok? I wont harass you on this personally but again, you stated many times that the bible shouldn't be used for law/bills. Ultimately what it comes doewn to is morals and ethics.

  • @JJ91284 " I'll play devils advocate and ask you where in the bible does it say gay relations are ok?"

I'll play devil's advocate's prosecutor, and ask you where in the Bible does it say that slavery is wrong? You won't be able to find this, because there is no where in the Bible that declares slavery as a moral wrong. That is why it is folly to assume that religion (any religion) can be an objective basis for American Law, fairness, morals, or ethics.

  • I am as ticked as you about what the Republican senators in Michigan have done. But you also need to know that this bill HAS NOT passed. It still has to make it through the House. So instead of just being mad and ranting, call, call, call and email your representative in the Michigan House and TELL THEM how mad you are and that they should NOT PASS THIS BILL.

  • @mom2preteens Woah, the bill hasn't passed?

Oh hallelujah! Okay, I don't actually live in Michigan, but I'm getting in touch with my friends who do. Thanks for the heads up!

  • i agree with everything you just said it is sickening that anything like this would come about.

  • This is soo CRAZY! lets pray that it won't spread to other state or countries......
