@blackcawkdown Claustrophobia is a very natrual and common thingwhen were young (babys etc) we feel the need to be constricted because its natrual (something to do with the womb) hence why people wrap babys up tightly in blankets however as we get older we feel the need to have more room and not be constricted not only physically but mentally, its like beign scared of the dark completely natrual!
@algonquinpaddler They are pretty claustrophobic, but sometimes you need to sacrifice comfort for weight. I personally find constrictive areas comforting, weird no? Maybe its some sort of neoteny that reminds me of the womb not sure. Just remember to bring a tarp to waterproof the rest of your gear since you can't bring it into the bivy like you could with a tent.
@Diraphe Claustrophobic is the old 80's one man US Army poncho tent with no mosquito net over the face, as the OR has. Woke up in that having a panic attack.
Hi Kevin, I like your videos. Keep up the good work. I came across your videos looking up camping in Killarney and winter camping. I agree, Killarney is a beautiful park. Been there in the summer and autumn. Interested in exploring Killarney in the Winter this February, possibily backcountry or Yurting, doing some snowshoeing for a couple days. Thank you and happy camping!
I generally keep a small tarp set up over my bivy in case of a downpour. The zippers are set so they layer the material and its a breathable/waterproof material - so in theory I shouldn't have an issue. But the tarp overhead works perfectly.
great video! But I have one question: In case of a down pour, how does one zip the outer water proof layer from the inside? I would assume there are inside zippers perhaps? Also, flipping the outside cover over the zippers might be hard from the outside, unless I'm not thinking right...ha. By anyways great videos, recent viewer. Keep it up!
Entertaining review. But id rather just bring my own damn tent honestly. But I am taller then most, so Bivy bags usually do not fit me well.

@abbytrowssy
Try breathing or even getting dry in a Gortex.
It might as well be rubber.

@solobackpacking i use them all the time....

@solobackpacking even infact i was outside in a down pour for 3 hours yesterday, bone dry. i didn't even feel any sweat.

@abbytrowssy
I see I'll have to be specific.
Put on a vortex jacket and take a 5 mile jog.
It's practically a wet suit.
Get in a gortex bivy and close the hood leaving only enough zipper open for breathing.
Take a nap. Sleeping bag will be soaked by morning.
If the above does not occur, then you are a vampire.

I love the concept, but isn't it bad if you're claustrophobic? It reminds me a bit too much of a body bag...
