this arrived at the nba, but was incubated in the amateur ranks. high school, college, internationally. in the mid-late sixties, seventies, early eighties, when people who played athletically were allowed to play, this flopping and under-cutting defensive method was instituted by coaches to have his team teach the other team a lesson. it's like punching a guy without getting in trouble. utah played this way with stockton and malone. the never won and i was glad for that.
I'm European and my coach actually did teach me how to draw charges, and even flop, if you will. When I went overseas, I feel I was much more effective on defense because I knew how to take advantage of the rules. And let's not forget - flopping is not illegal in basketball. You can do it as long as you can get away with it. I respect Red, but I also disagree with him. I see flopping as a tool of the intelligent and crafty.
I remember Jeff Van Gundy's comment during the 2011 playoffs. He said "Guys should really stop flopping. I think they should call a technical foul on flops and add a $10,000 fine so that they remember"
Reggie Miller was a perfect example of how to suck fouls after the pump fake, then lean into the defender, just so he gets a foul for two more free throws. Worst of all, he was a great three point and free throw shooter, and he is so lanky, a simple bump will knock him out.
once in a high school game, i didn't flop, i just stood and took the guy running into me like a man. anyway, my coach yelled is ass off at halftime, and punched a locker. good for him he broke his knuckle. asshole.
Unlike the NBA, the penalty for "flopping" under FIBA rules is a technical foul. (FIBA rules state that would count as one of a player's five fouls (6 in a 48-minute game in some countries) towards being taken out of the game.
I gave this video a 5, Because Red was so far ahead of his time, I completely agree with coah Auerbach, this definitely hurts the game.. And coaches were teaching me to flop in high school, and I refused to just fall down.. To bad the nba didn't catch this before it became an epidemic.
flopping is a bitch way to brown nose play the game right tired of seeing this in games man up

smart by mendy lols -
call a blocking foul on the damn floppers themselves...
that'll stop them right away....
of course that's probably not totally fair, but fines are hah ;.

it is not ginobili, or varejao or divac fault. it's referee's fault, they call the foul ffs.
