i think most of genres are more popular by having only few chords and simple structures to catch attention from most of people (people who dont know much about music can feel identified quickly this way), and jazz music is more sofisticated, this means that you need to know more things to really enjoy this music but its just like everything, the most you know about something the most you enjoy it. just like anything else.. movies.. reading.. or even coocking. as simple as that.
Being a philosophy more than a musical theorem, jazz is a direction, not a place. Like your life, jazz is a musical expression of your life, of its complexities, subtle victories and tragedies. It isn't always beautiful, but neither is life. Learning to appreciate real jazz music is like learning to appreciate other ways of life, including your own. Worthy endeavors.
Tony Wilson was not a musician, and his main involvement with music was on the business end, largely working with popular music, or else music that musically was not complicated. Forget his ignorance, but the underlying presumption that his opinion on a form of art is the only correct one is patently fascist, attacking jazz musicians and people who appreciate them. Moreover, it doesn't address the difference between jazz composition and improvisation. The guy sounds like an idiot.
You're right about something; metalheads' minds are about as open as the anus of a puppy. However, alot of metal shred (as awful as the majority of it is), is based on classical or neo-classical music. Therefore, alot of metal isn't just noise, but actual music.
I'm a metal head. Well, I favor Metal because music is audio emotions and I just don't feel Jazzy the majority of the time.
Metal can be good and it can suck.. So can Jazz or any style for that matter.
In fact I may love a Metal song today and hate it the next...what's that say?
Your categorizing metal-heads as idiots when recent studies show the the brightest in our schools tend to favor metal over easy listening, so whose to say...hell, I'm even gonna shut the fuck up...lol
great Jazz guitar sounds soooo good on solid body electrics. Electric guitars are the most colorful instrument for fingerstyle guitarist IMPO. This is great guitar playing and his method books are fabulous as well. Wow!
It's intellectual music. A lot of musicians calls jazz the smart guy music. Any of the blues guys I've jammed with really look up to some of the jazz improv artists, because of their ability to travel on their guitar. I find jazz to be like a trip you're taking. Many twists and turns, but if you're a good driver it'll be a smooth ride.
I enjoy jazz music and have nothing against it but it really bothers me when you try to act as if it is superior to other genres. It might just be me but some people might find comments like that to be snobby and a bit egotistical.
I never said I could play jazz. I can play a bit, but I never said anything to boost my own ego. I have just formed my opinion about jazz, as well, other people share this opinion and friends and family members who play other genres on guitar have said in conversations that they look up to jazz improv artists, because it's so smooth and so colourful. You're pretty sensitive to have a name like Slayer. Take it easy.
Dude....came across one of your other videos on youtube and was blown away, had to check out some more. Amazing chord voicings, with excellent technique, and you make it look effortless...if i lived in SOcal I'd take lessons with you tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get ot see you live someday, keep up the amazing work, a true talent!!!

Well then he knows NOTHING about music... Anyone who appreciates music could enjoy seeing and hearing someone like Jody Fisher play for hours.
