  • Clearly shown, the video is related to the verbal instruction. Reasonsdare given for each step in the process as well as well as the "how to". For me, the total beginner, this is a very helpful first step, and helps me decide how far I might like to go in doing anything to my antique clock beyong taking it in to a qualified repair person. Thank you!

  • @tomlinson1861 "pre madona" eh? you might want to do a quick google to see who's really ignorant.

  • cant help but notice that not one of these haters on this page has a video on how they would do it their way...

  • Just buy a cheap digital clock or check the time on your phone/laptop. Clock repair is dumb and a waste of time.

  • @caesiume no its not, some people like antique clocks, who wants those cheap dollar store quality clocks.

  • Should try synthetic motor oil, for that price, you should be able to get couple gallon

  • I can't believe you didn't replace the mainsprings. The nainsprings were clearly worn and had lost thier shape. I'd like to have seen how you polish the pivots. Do you use files, emery and a lathe, or something else? Polishing pivots usually take the most time and I'm always looking for better ways. Everyone has thier own style but please change the mainsprings and skip the presidential polish. You do very well on all else. For the oiler I use a flattened end of brass wire with a loop handle.

  • Why even bother making a video about clock repair when anything someone needs to know is one of your 'secrets'? You are a moron. "Presidential Polish"? Secret? So you buff the brass...big fuckin secret. 555 polish on a buffing wheel...big fuckin secret. You are ruining every clock you touch!

  • A true craftsman will pass his knowledge to someone else interested in whatever field it is. i know why you turn the camera off...it's not to protect your 'secrets', it's because you want to cover up when you fuck something up.

  • I promise you, if you ruined my 1861 vintage Seth Thomas Ogee clock by polishing the works like you did this one, I would break your fuckin fingers. Just because you fucked up the first ten clocks you worked on doesn't mean anybody else will. You pre madona asshole, clock repair isn't that complicated, but you are ruining history by your ignorance!

  • Over-restoration at its brash worst ! Presidential polish ? "Beyond brand new" says it all. I wouldn't let you any where near my beautiful Georgian clocks ! You need to learn to judge when LESS IS MORE.

  • I hope you have adequate breathing apparatus to avoid inhaling clock cleaner atomised by compressed air!

Don't remove metal by polishing. American clock plates are thin enough already. It does nothing for the performance of the clock as you say. Mostly the movements cannot be seen, why bother?

The idea of encouraging repairers to throw clocks away must be some kind of plot to make the remainder more valuable.

Its time to be conservation minded before all these clocks disappear.
