Of course, any review such as this is almost obsolete as soon as it is done. The Olympus 8010 (the replacement for the 8000) did away with the wheel, as well, the 8010 replacement - the 810 is further refined from that.
And the Canon D10 is getting old. These days 2 years + is aged for a point & shoot. So there are a lot of other choices that potential buyers should consider.
I would LOVE to buy the D10 because it is the only Canon that is waterproof. Unfortunately, it is not pocket-friendly and appears to have been designed by sponge bob square pants. This review is fairly ridiculous in that they took all these underwater cameras to the ocean and featured not ONE underwater picture!! I could have taken all these shots with any regular camera and a bit of added caution.
I bought a D10 last Sept and love the little thing. I took it to Rome with me and it took some marvelous photos. At home I stuck in a mountain stream and got some live action shots of the local trout swimming around. I did a bit of research on waterproof cameras and the D10 was the best in my opinion. Its a bit bigger than the rest but the buttons are solid and feel good. Other cameras buttons felt cheap. There are no moving parts so to get jammed up too. Another plus! Get the D10!
hi everyone im in a fuji xp10 contestnd looking for support if yo uvote for me you too can win a free camra im the food fight contestant please help me and my five kid :)
I've got the Olympus Stylus Tough. Took it to Jamaica with me :) I've got some great videos of snorkelling. Would be nice with a little more battery life, but it works great. Good for snowboarding aswell with the tap feature so you can leave your gloves on :)
CANON IS ALWAYS TOP HIGH RATED CAMERA... I work at best buy and 95% of people buy canons from us... People just like the quality and pretty much everything on the camera...
@b16ryder I worked at Costco, I wouldnt trust anything a majority of consumers buy, and most Best Buys I have been to the staff had no idea what they or I were talking about. Personally Id go to a real camera store for professional insight. Canon is a great company, but they don't make all the best cameras- check into each one individually for the specific use you want to use it for.
Waterproof Digital Cameras Reviewed? Why taking picture above the water? Its waterproof review, why not taking picture underwater!!!! Argggggg! What a lowsiya review. Your grade for this review 1 out of the highest 1000. Grrrrr!!!! I expect under water picture takingrrrrr!!!
I have an Olympus tough 8010, and it briliant. waterproof down to 10meters. I go scuba diving with it, and the tap-control feature is genius. None of those cameras has buttons that can be used with neoprene gloves on.
@stavros8 Just got the Fujifilm XP10... so far its great! Got it at Costco for $140. Takes 720p video, and it is fantastic quality! The buttons are easily laid out, pictures are quick, and it has a quality feel to it with an all metal uni-body. Its tough! Not the best low light shooter, but what camera can you say is at that price point- that you can take almost anywhere in confidence? In my opinion it's the best out there right now for a great price.
are the pictures from the canon better than the pictures from the panasonic? I like the panasonic's screen because it looks bigger and because of its HD feature, but if it doesn't have as good of picture quality as canon then I may have to get canon.
i hate when people take the colour of the camera into account or some crap like that, it's a fucking camera!!! the pictures are meant to look good not the camera itself!
Although canon looks ugly as hell I still like to use it because for a small camera, I don't really mind the look, but for my dslr, yes I look at both the features and the look, but mostly the features, because come on, who cares if the camera doesn't look that nice, it's the images that matter in the end, grow up people, cameras are not people, so it doesn't matter if they don't look so nice but they are very reliabe.
dude u should do that again but with the olympus stylus tough 8010 its got 14mp waterproof and hd video 720p would like to see u test it cause im thinking of buying 1 thnx
Hey People, Just don't buy any Olympus Camera, because it breaks easily after just two months of using the nightmode won't function anymore and all shots taken are blurry or washed out. This happened in just about two months of using and Olympus won't acknowledge International warranty so you'll end up with a useless expensive camera. If you are a first time buyer and want to try your luck, just don't try your luck with olympus, it happened to me, it could happen to you.
@akajj1234 .. Sigh... No problems with Olympus here. I have used this camera since it was released and have had no problems at all. My friend have used his 1030sw since it was released with no problems. My sister uses the 770sw and are very pleased. I have several Olympus. In fact they serviced my first for free even though I bought it in an other region of the world. Thats GOOD service.. DSLR`s and I have been treated like royalty when I have had them serviced. Oly service rules!!! Big baby..
i got the fujifilm waterproof camera in greeen i bought it in the optimum store mobnths ago now it can fall and no harm in the water so go with the fujifilm
Is it possible to record video using macro feature with any of these cameras? For example to record video of a water bug from distance of a few centimeters? Which cameras have the hd video feature? Thanks.
I had a olympus mju790(7MP) and the picture quality is no where near panasonic FX7(5MP), and not to mention the ridiculously more expensive XD card over super affordable SD card. My olympus got stolen, then I bought FT1.The picture quality is superb and so is the video. But compare to sony DSC TX-5, FT1 is bit bulky by 32%. And sony is $200 more expensive. But maybe sony takes good quality pictures too. Has anyone had compare between between those two?
A year ago I made the mistake of buying the Fuji Z33WP. I wish I had seen this video first. Took the grandkids to a water park. I must have made a dozen attempts of my grandkids entering the water from the water-slide. All I could get is the splash afterwards. Add to that horrific shutter-lag is the times it just cant decide on what exposure setting to use. I missed many shots at a wedding reception because of this. I'm giving the Fuji to my grand-son and ordering the Canon.
y is everyone hatin on the canon? just cause it looks like a spaceship doesnt mean it sux. yea is not as small as the others but its the overal picture quality and ruggedness that counts.
Fuji Z33wp is outstanding value. I have one mounted on my kayak...On one trip I lost the camera, but a friend found it three weeks later in a foot of water. Camera still
worked perfectly..I got the Fuji back and still use it...
I and my brother have two models of the Olympus Tough, we r returning them cause of VERY poor pic quality. I went on vacation and had to rent a better cam.
Holy crap!!! I've done tons of research and I finally just ordered the canon powershot D10 and was nervous that I may have made the wrong choice. My sister got the olympus and I was going to as well. I just found the D10 and liked everything it had to offer. Now, after watching the video, I feel confident in my choice!!! Yeah
I love the Canon D10. It has a ton of features that most cameras don't. I play with the color swap and color accent features constantly. It takes a great still photo and the videos are neat!!!! You can really do a lot with this. My sister is jealous. Her olympus just sucks when it comes to picture quality. Definitely love the D10. I don't give a crap that it isn't the size of a credit card. Come on, quality over looks all the way. :)
Can you record video with sound in any depth to 10m on olympus or you have to use underwater movie setting that doesn t record sound? Just bought it !
I think they completely forgot about the Olympus 8000's Tap feature. They did not even have to use the buttons or dial while swimming..just tap the top or sides to choose an option. I'd like to see them test the Olympus 8000 one more time.
just took the test under water, but it was important to generalize taking into account all the options, not just under water. however, thanks for the demonstration was very useful to leave me more confused! = P I'm in doubt between the Olympus 8000 (was my 1º options) and Canon (2º).
Go with the Canon D10. My sister bought the olympus because of my destructive kids. She thought it would be nice to have a camera that wouldn't be ruined when my kids tossed it in the toilet. She hates the picture quality. I got the Canon D10 and I love it. She is so jealous of the quality and all of the cool functions that it has. You can really get creative with the pictures and videos you take. Love it!
The 8000 has tap feature where you can tap the sides of the camera instead of using the scroll wheel, correct? So if you avoid the scroll wheel I wonder how it would match up. One more test drop all the cameras from 6 feet on concrete and see which ones work, guessing the 8000 will last. Thanks for the review.
I just got myself an Olympus 8000 but haven't put it to the test yet. However, I'm getting aquatinted w the features and I think it'd turn out to be pretty awesome you just need to get to know them. And the idea of being able to take it 10 m down is pretty darn cool
Get a life people, I could understand everyone on the video no problem and i'm deaf in one ear! Think people just need to pay MORE attention or just get a life. Some people are NEVER happy!
The panasonic looks amazing. If I could afford it I would've bought it. I just bought a fujifilm z33wp instead, its more affordable and seems to take pretty decent pictures. My only complaint is that you cannot zoom while taking a video and also it doesn't auto focus while in video mode. Also there is no HD video.

I have a Z33WP and the up close Macro feature is mind blowing, very clear, precise pics, and the anti-blur feature is great for moving while snapping pics.
It also has a very fast on/off time, 1.5 seconds.
i just got a panasonic ft1/ts1 couple of days ago, and really like it so much.
it has only 3m waterproof but i don't go deeper in the water so no problem with me at all. and it takes great quality of photos and videos. i really surprised when i downloaded to my computer to check what i took.
I would be getting the Pentax W60 as the overall reviews on it have been more then favorable. Never base your choice on just one review. Check each model out for your self, while I like Cannons P&S models I proboly wouldn't get the D10. The two that I would consider are the Pentax w60 and the Cannon D10. The Cannon as Iam a fan of ther P&S and the W60 is because I have tested it out myself and found it a nice little camera.
hey guys! watch my video on the olympus tough 8010! I do an unboxing and review!

@sbmileypenguin761 You can look at them as well as the video in the camera, chop, edit, crop and rotate, and then upload it to your PC.

i just got a panasonic ft1/ts1 couple of days ago, and really like it so much.
it has only 3m waterproof but i don't go deeper in the water so no problem with me at all. and it takes great quality of photos and videos. i really surprised when i downloaded to my computer to check what i took.
such a great compact camera!

The D10 looks like a submarine!
I'd get the W60.

The D10 is superb, I'm a pretty serious photog who picked one up for my honeymoon and was blown away by the results

I would get the Panasonic, it looks like a regular camera while the canon will look like and alien outside the water.
