@kartha789 Hi Kartha, a heavy loam topsoil is a good medium though my friend warner has used heavy compost just a couple inches deep. The lotus grow mostly across the top of the container or soil. Avoid potting soil that floats. Fertilize only after you have 1 leaf up above the water, start them in warm shallow water in good sun even slightly filtered. You can use miracle grow (regular), pond fertilizer tabs, ken landon fertilizer, or slow release osmocote (180 day)....

@kartha789 I ran out of comment space. We do have some videos here on you tube dealing with nutrient deficiency and fertilization times of the lotus so that you can have repeat blooms all summer.
